Denver is in the market for a tailback this year. Starting tailback Mike Anderson turns 33 in September and is facing a contract negotiation. If Anderson does not return, it leaves third-year pro Tatum Bell and free agent Ron Dayne, who will get a shot at significant playing time. The Broncos are working to retain Dayne, a former Heisman Trophy winner. Depending on what happens, Tatum Bell could be a trade candidate.

He was a mid second round pick correct? If so I'd like to recoup at least that value out of him. He's still young, hasn't been overworked, and is on a good contract. Don't see anyone giving a second for him though, and I wouldn't want to settle for anything less.

This is just Williamson firing darts blindfolded again.

Tatum Bell will have very little trade value in a market flooded with decent RB's who've proved a lot more than him and anyway why would Denver trade it's cheapest running back on the roster in a season when they are going to be very tight to the salary cap again?

Bingo. Bell will still be on the team, but I wouldn't be surprised for Mike Bell to be a Bronco next season.

Any info on Mike Bell?

Yeah, here's what I think.

Bell (MIKE) is a big runner, who is all around solid. Has has good instincts, vision and shows a lot of patiencerunning the ball. Physical and man enough to pound it successfully between the tackles and is a solid receiver out of the backfield and is a fairly good pass blocker.

Downside is he lacks elite timed speed, but I think he ran in the 4.5 range at the combine, but we all know Davis ran slow but was awesome for us. Doesn't have that many dazzling moves, a N/S type of guy who isn't going to juke defenders out of he shoes. Other than that, nothing else is a big weakness. Probably will be a late third to fourth round pick.

Not making comparisons but that description almost mirrors TD's when he was coming out.

Ha!

Bell will get another shot this offseason. I still believe in him.

Mike Bell would be great, i like him a lot, one of my fav's in this years draft.

I think Tatum will be back next year. He simply has very low value in an overstaturated RB market this year (FAs and the draft).

Maybe he'll come around....perhaps his "vision" will develop and we know he has the speed.

If we keep Tatum, Anderson..and then get this Mike Bell guy. We're gonna have a very confusing RB situation.
Bell with the handoff..wait no..its Mike..or is it both of them? AAAAAAAHHHRRRG

Can't we just teach Tatum how to block? And is anyone concerned that Mike Bell got a lot of touches in college? He seemed to break down last year; though I've gotta say that I love guys that flat out lobby to get drafted to God's country!!

Tater is playing on a cheap contract. Keep him. Let Mike go. Re-sign Dayne. Draft a running back or pick one up via free agency.

NO ... we have to include Tatum in the Texans deal to aquire Reggie Bush.

What were you guys thinking?

They're showing the combine on NFL Network.

Mario Williams looks like an absolute beast. What would we have to do to get this guy?

How about both first rounders and Tatum?

Dude is going to be an absolute terror.

I think Devner would be smart to trade Bell while his value is high.

I know I don't want to see a MA@FB/Dayne@HB backfield. Could be every bit as good as the Hodge/Foster Pitt had or the Iron Head Hayword/Metcalf combo in Atlanta years ago.

Would be smart to sign a guy cheap or spend a 5th-7th on a HB for depth, but I think you'd roll...

he is what we need.

Forget about Tatum there tho, both firsts imo would get us to 6, and the niners do need more depth.

Yeah and aparently Ron Dayne is at least slightly like Iron Head Heyward :P . Let's trade our cheapest running back who happens to to have a career YPC of over five. ^5

I cant believe that Bill W. and others want to get rid of Bell so easy...The guy is still a youngin...with great speed and like my homey ozo said...his YPC is over 5...a more experienced Bell is going to be sick to watch...Denver doesnt need to worry about the RB position...there are other Needs that need to be filled...

Inded.

Of course, LJ's YPC were insane as well until he became the fll time starter.

And excuse me if Bell's size makes me question him as a full time starter.

Dayne also had a good year and he's more a fit for your style of play. Late in a game Dayne would maul a defense, and with MA as a legit threat to run or catch the ball on any play...

Bell averaged over 6 yards a carry. I think unless Shanny thinks that he just can't cut it that there is no way they'll trade him. He is the least expensive RB of the three Denver considers starter material.

And I'd be expecting a raise if it was me.

He won't want insane money, but a new contract isn't out of the question.

The last RB who wore #26 and asked for a new contract 2 years into his NFL career ended up changing his zip code...So I doubt Bell asks for anything more than what he has signed for until he's up for an extension...

He was always a fulltime starter...and deserved to get paid...but, he just asked 2 years too early...thats what got him shipped out...

last rb to do that also became the highest paid rb(for a short time) seems like it worked out for clinton.

I didnt say that it was a bad move for him to ask for more money after two seasons of over 1500 yards and 15+ TD's...he deserved to get paid...and did so, just not with the team he had hoped for...either way...you guys took this out of text...I was using the fact that CP asked for more money and got shipped out of Denver...Rausch was suggesting that Bell get more money, thats what I used CP as an example for why Bell wont ask for sh!t...

yah but from cp and bell's POV I imagine the money is more important than the location. so ur saying that cp asked for more money early and got it I dont see how that discourages bell. if indeed he thought he could do something similar to cp.

also what would shanny have w/o bell? the only 250 lbs rb who can't break arm tackles?:)(for arguments sake)

CP didnt get it from Denver, he got traded then got paid...TB doesnt have the carries nor the stats to ask for more money...it discourages Tatum because he knows that Shanny will have him put on a plane out of Denver if he were to ask for more money case in being CP...Lets not forget though that CP came out of $$$ U....all those guys are in it for nothing but, the money...whatever floats their boat I guess...Either way, this is all pure speculation from Bill W...therefore will probably not even happen...

His high school coach gave Gerrad Warren that nickname because the coach said Gerrad had everything the NFL was looking for. It wasn't Gerrad's idea.
