I would suggest that people clean out their PM boxes, except for special things they want to keep. PMing is a fairly major part of this game. That's how most negotiations between the players are conducted. Some have been known to get really paranoid and use direct email, but it's way too early for that. I'm sure.

And the sign up sheet will be open until Sunday afternoon unless we hit 21 contestants before then.

On Sunday, I'll post an official game thread in the off topics forum that will spell out the rules in detail.

For now, I can give you all a little preview.

Basically, in each round, each player must secretly PM me with the identity of another player who they are voting to kick off the "island." Normally, I will allow about 24 hours for the votes to be cast, and I won't announce the results until all the votes are in or until the deadline expires.

Later in the game, when we get down to 5 or 6 players, I might speed up the rounds a little.

There will also be at least one "double elimination" round. I'll let everyone know well in advance how that works and which round(s) it will occur.

After I have the results in a given round, I will post them on the main thread. This will include a breakdown of who voted against who. So, most of the time, you will know exactly who has been voting against you.

There will be two "blackout" rounds, that will be announced well in advance. They will happen somewhere in the middle of the game. In these particular rounds, only the net results will be posted. The identities of the persons actually casting the votes will not be revealed (until the very end of the game). So if you plan on backstabbing someone under the cover of darkness, those rounds might be a good time to do it.

You are allowed to miss one round of voting. (And, incidentally, voting to kick yourself off the island counts as a missed vote).

Once you have missed a round, you get an asterisk by your name. If you miss a voting round a second time, then you are automatically eliminated.

The people who are voted off will get some small chance for revenge, because they will get to be on the jury that decides the winner (as between the final two contestants). A public opinion poll will be set up, and that will also be worth a jury vote.

It may happen that some rounds will end in tied votes.

The tiebreakers will be as follows:

1. If one player has an asterisk (because they missed a round, and the other does not, the player with the asterisk loses.)

2. If neither player has an asterisk (or both do) then whoever has had the fewest previous votes against them will be kicked off. This is the opposite of the way we have done it in the past. As Neitzche (or Conan the Barbarian) might say, what does not kill us, makes us stronger.

3. If that is also tied, then the MOLE gets to choose which of the tied players lives or dies.

The MOLE will also have a tiebreaker vote if the final vote for the winner of the game is tied.

Who is the MOLE? It might be Pez, or Blueflame, or OldDudetheYounger or even some weird rotating committee of MOLES. The only things I can guarantee you are that (1) I AM NOT THE MOLE, and (2) I have absolutely no control over what the MOLE says or does or promises or decides, and (3) while there may be fake moles from time to time, the real MOLE will not be a player. The MOLE will usually try to barter for information - in order to amuse our viewing audience and other players as well - You can ignore the MOLE or trust him or her with your swiss bank account number - as you choose. The main thing to remember is that the MOLE, in this version of survivor does potentially have the power (in cases of ties) to decide an outcome. So try not to get him/her/it/them too P.O'd (unless being obnoxious is part of your strategy).

As an alternative, if you don't want to use up your excused absence, you could PM me late on the 8th with a designated and prioritized "hit list" of targets for the 9th and 10th. But I don't want to go much beyond that because the bookkeeping gets complicated.
