Coleman calls it a career
By Bill Williamson
Denver Post Staff Writer

When he departed the Broncos' locker room at Invesco Field at Mile High for the last time, Marco Coleman said he was hesitant to end his NFL career with the bad taste of an AFC championship game loss.

After letting time pass, Coleman has turned in his retirement papers. Living in Jacksonville, Fla., Coleman is expected to turn his attention to several business ventures now that his 14- year NFL career is over.

Coleman, who turned 36 in December, played the past two seasons with the Broncos. The defensive end made 16 starts for Denver in the 2004 season.

"Marco played at a very high level late in his career," Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist said. "He was a big part of our locker room and we were happy to have him. I just wish that we would have gotten him to play in one more game to end his career."

Free agency update

The Broncos continue to negotiate with their free agents, most notably offensive tackle Matt Lepsis and defensive tackle Gerard Warren. Lepsis' and Warren's contracts could be extended

by March 3, the start of free agency.
Long snapper Mike Leach is expected to re-sign with the Broncos at the start of free agency. Denver also is working toward an agreement with running back Ron Dayne. Because Leach and Dayne were signed to one-year deals worth the veteran minimum, they can't officially re-sign until the contracts expire.

Wide receiver Charlie Adams, an exclusive-rights free agent, is expected to be tendered a one-year deal. Restricted free-agent safety Chris Young, injured all of last season, is likely to become an unrestricted free agent.

I'm happy and sad. Coleman is one of the classiest guys I've ever met. Period. The kind of personality and example in the locker room that you want. He was excellent depth and leadership. Pretty good agains the run as well. He'll be missed but he's got a family and misses Florida. I'm sure he's happy with his choice.

I hope this Lepsis thing gets worked out. He's pretty underrated in the news but the Broncos and his agent know that. He's one of the players I think its critical we re-sign.

My 2005 Adopt-A-Bronco has flown the coop after a good NFL career. Good luck in retirement, Marco...

Good to hear about Lepsis & Warren. Getting those two locked up is high priority and it's nice to see the Broncos treating it as such.

Bon Voyage Marco. :)

Thank you Marco...time to go, but you were a good leader for the Broncos. You knew it was time to go into the sunset...he knew it was time but damn...they will miss his leadership...

We got all the Browncos for cheap last year and they played well. Especially Warren. Now pay the man and keep him in Denver so the team can move on and fill some needs in FA and the draft.

I expect the Veal won't be address until free agency if RFA what do we get for him if he sign somewhere else

When will their contracts expire? just to know when they will be resigned.

I'd asume 2nd March 06, with free agency scheduled to commence the following day.

What other teams would have interest in Lepsis? Seems that Denver's scheme is the perfect fit and that not many other teams would maximize his skills like we can.

Houston's putting in a predominently zone blocking scheme and Kubes knows a thing or two about Matty's play. Atlanta's tackles are pretty shoddy too.

the questions always is what do you want to achive as a player:
earn a lot of bucks with a medicore team
or
earn 1 or 2 bucks less and win a superbowl.
i think lepsis know that he is just one step away from the big one her in denver.:thanku:

Or maybe it's worthless to spend your time working on an RFA that you can at least protect with a tender instead of doing what you can to keep Warren, Lepsis and the other UFAs?

Man, Marco was all class. See ya!!

Hope Lepsis can get a deal reached. Also im happy it says we will be extending an offer to Adams, he still has untapped potential imo.

he's a RFA & not as big a priority as Lepsis nor Warren, the Broncos also love Corey Jackson(pratice squad guy, 6-7 260) so that might also be why their slow playing Veal
