Rivers will get traded. Jets are the early favorites (John Abraham) but who knows as they are in cap hell.
John Abraham in San Diego does not give me warm fuzzies.

Maybe the Vikings are looking at some sort of 3 way trade for Rivers
I get the feeling that in SD Brees is going to be odd man out. Just a feeling.

Which would be good for the AFC West sans the Chargers and bad for the boltz. I could see them doing that, though. By the time Rivers "gets it" the window will be closed for that team and they'll have faded back into ignominy.

im leaning that way as well. Them not resigning Brees, plus signing a vet kind of sounds like "backup plan" to me.

what window? they have a ton of young talent. they aren't working w/ a window. I mean unless like 6 years is a window.
this doesn't mean they wont go up and down in that time but they aren't like the chiefs(old) or the ravens(cap hell)

If Culpepper, with his injury, is worth a 2, what is Brees worth? I have always liked Brees. I just think the "Marty" system is not the best for him. But he did well year before last and not too badly last year. I put him in about the same category as Hasselbeck and Delhomme. He'd be good insurance for most teams. I would see the Fins going for him or Rivers......

Geez, I didn't even know Feely had left Miami. That trade didn't work out too well for them. What'd they give up to the Eagles, a second round pick?
Pretty expensive for a 1 year failure at QB.

which is what i WAS thinking..
But then you can't just think about Offense.
On Defense, aside from Merriman and Castillo (who gets more credit than he should because he was taken in the same draft as Merriman) they have some players who are getting up there.
DT - Jamal Williams - 29
LB - Donnie Edwards - 32
LB - Steve Foley - 30
S - Jerry Wilson - 32
Also, on Offense
FB - Lorenzo Neal - 35
WR - Keenan McCardell - 36
Their receivers are Below Average at best when you take away McCardell.
And don't forget that Lorenzo Neal is a big factor in their run game.
By the time Rivers develops into a productive QB, Neal and McCardell will both be gone, and those four defensive players listed above will either be mostly retired or on their last legs, or even cut.
I think the chargers would be making a huge mistake in letting Brees go. There's no telling what Rivers will do. They won't make the playoffs with him at QB next year, that is FOR SURE. However, he COULD be a great QB.
If they can add some more young defense like they have been doing, and whatever qb they stick with plays at a high level, they have a big "window"
I personally think they will keep Brees, but i'm hoping that they find a way to screw it up.

sure not everyone is 25. but thats perfectly normal for a team, remember every year they have the draft and free agency to replace parts as they go.
as for the rivers thing, well no1 knows, someone is leaving though cuz fiedler is coming and he aint coming to be the emergency qb. my best guess is rivers goes. but we'll see!

The only reason I can see them signing him is because either Rivers or Brees is going to be gone. . Brees could be gone because of his shoulder injury, and Rivers could be gone because Brees shoulder is fine and will be the starter. Feely is there to be a backup to one of these two. All I know is that the chargers are lucky to have phillip rivers. I mean, if Brees is gone they have a top first round draft pick to take his place, and if brees is the guy they could have a good trade going with rivers.

Rivers will get traded. .
I'll go the opposite. Brees is on his way out. Doesn't have a strong arm to begin with. Arm is shot to hell. Let him walk & take his allotted salary & fix the holes.

Brees is damaged goods with that shoulder injury. Despite the smoke and mirrors coming out of Chargers camp, labrum tears are bad news.

Yes they will be. They can't keep guys like Gates/Tomlinson/Edwards/Merriman on their roster and expect them to just hang around. They need help at corner, safety and their offensive line. Let's assume that they acquire all that this offseason and then plob Rivers in there.
While I wont deny it would be hard to find a team more difficult to fail in, things usually are hard for learning QB's of any stature. Look at Eli, he had a similar offense in many respects and struggled and finally imploaded. By the time Rivers "develops" (and this is assuming he even will, which is still unknown) It's hard to believe that their historically terrible management is going to be holding all that dough together and the team of super stars will be ready to go with minimalk strain on the cap.

I would love to see the Chargers get rid of Brees. I think they are the biggest threatt to us in the division, but with Rivers at the helm they wouldn't be contenders next year. I think they're in a really tough spot. There's a lot of risk with to keeping either one of those guys. You have Rivers who everyone slobbers over, but has proven nothing in the league. You have Brees who has proven that he can be a Pro Bowl QB, but he hasn't proven that his shoulder is ever going to get back to a level that allows him to perform.
With that said I would guess that they go with youth and keep Rivers.

Brees just turned 27...the age when a lot of QBs come into their prime.
The Bolts getting rid of Brees is best for us in the short term, but in the long run Rivers has more upside. I watched a TON of his games at NC State and he's the real deal -- very Manning-like.

So, NY is going to tag him? That sucks. The prior word was that they'd let him walk in March.
I don't know how we could afford him, but he's about the only impact d-linemen left out there. Outside of that, we're back to cast-offs.

Bosch is reportedly going to get around $15 million in guarenteed money from Tennessee. Considering he is a player with a history of injuries and only one big year under his belt, I shudder to think what Abraham will command. $20 millon? Certainly well out of our range. I say resign Warren and Brown, then use the cornerback draft strategy from last season on DL. Take two or three on the first day and hope to get an immediate impact from at least one, maybe two.

needing help at positions doesn't qualify u for a window. and they can keep all the players u've mentioned, they are not in danger in regards to the cap.
whether u think they will suck or be good they are not in a window:(

But Abraham is older and also has a long string of injuries, so it's hard to say. He will get exactly what the market will pay for him, and I have the feeling someone will overpay for him.

denver has successfully avoided overpaying a great number of defensive ends to its eventual detriment.
