Could you please take the time to answer the following question please.
What comes to your mind when speaking of a NFL team and the word Franchise?
What comes to your mind when speaking of a NFL team and Team?
What do you think is the difference between the two in your mind (Franchise and Team)?...
Franchise: owners, front office, current coaches, current players, entire organization, typically long-term
Team: current coaches, current players, typically short-term
That's the way I usually think about it...

Franchise: i think of the FO, GM, owner.
Team: i think of the position coaches, and the players.
When the FO puts the right players in place, and when the team has the right chemistry it mixes together to equal SB champion!

Franchise is the entire individual organization from top to bottom...
Team is the product on the field.
Franchise = A corparation (bussiness) with a long history. Some are sucsessfull, while others are mediorce.
Team = A group of people all working together for one common goal.A teams parts (people) can change from time to time, but the goal remains the same.

franchise: an established way of doing business licensed out to a separate entity.
team: a group of players working towards the same goal.
It's really a good way to think about it. NFL's primary goal is to make money no matter what one may think.

This question came about because I told a Pat's fan that he has a team not a franchise. He said otherwise.

They are generally one and the same. You can't have an NFL team without ownership and upper management. So, you're just splitting hairs...

Though it is possible to have a crappy franchise, but a good team

Exactly! But, have you thought of a Franchise being a company who consistantly goes to the playoffs. I have only heard this once since I have posted. Such as the Cowboys - Franchise, Green Bay - Franchise. 49ers - they had a team as franchise goes - they haven't proved anything. The Cardinals have a team. A franchise as I saw it was a company who succeeded the upper management continually got them there. I haven't heard this much. Only the dictionary definition. Maybe the Pat's fan was right... DAMMIT! So, none of you have heard of this?

It looks like you are confusing "Franchise" with "Dynasty" when discussing teams such as the Cowboys and the 49ers (and the Patriots), who have had legitimate dynasties in the past.

See this is my point. I don't think of Dynasty, because I think a Dynasty is a team. I think a tag of Franchise is beyond Dynasty. Being called a Franchise you have continually produce teams that continually make the playoffs. Dynasty? That's a team. 49ers don't have a Franchise they have a team... Are you following me now. I have heard this from Cowboy fans that they have a franchise - Jerry Jones. Regardless of who's in there - he'll get them to the playoffs in due time. They brag because they feel that unlike teams who get lucky in putting together a good team in ones life span - they consistantly do so and it's not luck (as the pats put in a second string QB and next thing you know their SB Champions) theirs is planned thought out and done. Franchise to them is only the elite of the elite! Dolphin fans think the same even without SB rings but by win percentage and playoff appearances.

This is a silly question. Let me make an analogy to confuse you even more.
Bill Gates is the Franchise.
Microsoft windows/office pro is the team Ha!
Honestly this is amusing.
