What happened to 30 day notice? While I sympathize I'm unsure why they can't pay something. 30% of their income would be appropriate. Still if they were promised trailors to move into and are given no other alternative but being homeless seems pretty heartless.

They had PLENTY of notice, they pushed back the evictions once already to give everyone plenty of time to actually do something.
Sorry guys, Katrina sucked but at some point the hand outs just have to stop.

Well, it wasn't just their houses destroyed, it was the entire region they lived in. Kind of hard to get a job or find another place to live in those circumstances.
These people were dirt poor, and now have lost everything they had. Tough to rebuild from that, nt matter how hard you try.
Of course, tax money shouldn't support them the rest of their lives, but this IS the worst natural disaster in US history.

most of the people who were using this were on public housing assistance to begin with, so they were use to getting handouts
