Yeah, Ocord and Dcord's that kind of things. I think $1000, is OK. People will just have to watch their budgets.
And as for when we do it, it starts on Monday. Here's the schedule again.
For free agency, let me know if this format works.
Everyone gets $1,000. You bid on the free agents by the day. We'll bid on:
QBs Monday
RBs on Tuesday
WR Wed
TE and Oline Thur
DL Friday
LB Monday
DB Tuesday
ST, K, and P on Wed
Coaches on Thursday
Whoever has the highest bid on a player by Midnight receives that player. Bidding on QBs will start at 12:01 Monday night.
oops got it lol forgot bout that. would this be mountain time i assume? also, is there a time when u must submit the players so that u cant just say at 11:59, i wanna sign "player" for a dollar. or is the rationale that if somebody else wants that player they will post it too?

My 40 will beat anyone's 49.
Besides, you guys are going to have major playing time issues to resolve. Good luck telling perennial Pro Bowlers they're third string.
Only third stringer on my team is Walker. My team could take yours. (Let the smack talking begin)

That would be a trip, since you've only got, like, four guys that would start on my team: Houston, Werhli, McDaniel, Stephenson.

I'll buy the Terrell argument, (Unless he gets a migraine) but R Lew is weay overrated. Can't play well at all if he doesn't have the big guys in front keeping the guards or TEs off of him. And all of my G and TE can definetly get to the second level. "Moose" Musso is gonna knock the crap outtta Lewis on a consistent basis!

Apparantly, I'm the only one who beleives in him as much as I do, but I love the guy, and I think my starting QB will kick all your asses.
http://www.billdaniels.com/bartstarrgla.jpg
He does have a rather Speedy and Clutch receiver core, starring two players who could arguably be among the top 10 receivers of al time.

Of course, it's not as if the passing game is all by it's lonesome. My speedy Halfbacks have one of the best short yardage specialists ever to counter their speed.

My secondary is the only real concern spot, as far as I can see. In terms of play to play coverage, they will be preety 2nd rate in this league, but in terms of picking off passes, Krause will be leading the way.

What difference does it make what time you mark as the deadline for a certain position? If 6 was the time deadline than you could get a bid in at the last minute at 5:59. The time limit is 11:59 PM CST.

Well Youcandoit asked me to make sure he got either Cutler or Delhomme. It is 11:00 CST so it appears he got them both.
Just got home from the Rockies game - ugliest 1 hitter ever, but a win. Haven't seen the stats but Oakland must have stranded a dozen or so on the bases. Looks like Helton is ready to break out.
Guess its time for RBs so I will stay with my bids of:
John David Crow - $5
Chuck Foreman -$5

I'm gonna put a bid in on Sammy Winder as well. I thought of him as a mediocre back, but look how he stacks up to Terrell:
Davis: Overall, Davis finished his 7 NFL seasons with 7,607 rushing yards, 169 receptions for 1,280 yards, and 65 touchdowns (60 rushing and 5 receiving).
Winder: In his 9 seasons, Winder rushed for 5,427 yards and 39 touchdowns, while also catching 197 passes for 1,302 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Not stellar numbers, but very steady and consistent. And Winder had better numbers than Otis Armstrong!

A whole team? Wow, don't know if I'm ready for that kind of committment! And I will take Morris' accomplishments over your potetntial any day. This draft is about the all time greats, not the some day greats!
Hmmmm.....If I knew we were bidding on a whole team I would have worked harder to sign Van Brocklin or Stabler. Ah well. I can't put a whole bunch of time into it, but I'll bid on who I can.

Yeah, I gotta get a couple of round by rounders to OD to get that thread going.
And sorry I'm not enthused about Spikes and what not, but those guys have not endured the test of time. Almost everyone of my guys has put up hall of fame numbers or has at least gotten some consideration. Will Spikes be as respected as Stratton was after his career is over? I don't think so.

Once again, I'm gonna pass on all these guys. It's not a question of my time or your time. The question is "are any of these guys one of the all time greats?"
I say no. But of the group, Blaine Bishop is the only decent pick.

i thot about glenn but his numbers dont particularly standout to me. 2/12 pro bowls. 3 INTs a year, about 40 tackles a year. fischer 3/17 pro bowls, is only 7th on the redskins INT list after 10 years(albeit in the pre-passing era really). ses he was a vicious hitter tho. Fo-Rock does sound like a pretty cool guy and was probably one of the bigger DBs of his time, too bad injuries cut him short. once again, i never saw him play tho but nice find

knew i shoulda gone higher when i left tonight. u suck dipso lol. gonna find a new one on that. lol well, im not so sure bout cowher, JCM but its cool. and how can u not like guys like dinger, who taught rod and ed a lot of what they know, david johnson who keeps cranking TEs outta georgia or the rivera/saban situation, one mastered the pro level, the other mastered the college level and will have the pro level in wraps soon.
lol s'aight tho JCM...ill be back later with a RB coach and returner

It's not that I don't like those guys, but once again we're talking about "the best of ALL TIME." This isn't the All time greats during Youcandoit's life span. Dinger is good, but we can talk about if he is one of the all time greats after his career is over.
Tell you what, if Dinger can turn Watts, Terell, and/or Devoe into pro bowl receivers, I may put him up there with the greats.

OK, here's how the tournament works.
#1 -- Our own personal analysis. Everyone will rate every other team (except their own) on a scale of 1 to 15, 0ne being the WORST and fifteen the BEST. (Doing it this way will make tallying the points easier.) After all the votes are in the points will be tallied by Old Dude or myself. A #15 vote gets a team 15 points, a #14 vote gets a team 14 points, etc.
I would like for everyone to have their rankings in by July 20th at the latest. I think that's ample time for everyone to deal with busy schedules and get off of Summer vacation.
I considered having all the votes PMed to OD and myself, but I think we're all adult enough to have an open ranking of the teams on the board. Please, no collusion to get a team to the top. Let's have somebody win fair and square. If you're really bashful (on this board? Yeah, right) You can feel free to PM your rankings to Old Dude and myself.
The second part of this evaluation is to open up the teams to the Orange Maners. I'm going to start a thread and ask all of them to evaluate the teams the same way we're doing here. (15-1) I may even include a poll.
On that thread please have a write-up for your team to tell everyone how great they are.
OK, this is it! Let's get those rankings up there!!!!
(By the by, my PC is going into the shop over the weekend, so I will be dissapearing for a while.)

and lets all try to be mature about it. not everyone can be #1 and not everybody is familiar with all the players. i will try to do my research on the older guys but cant do all of em.
can we be specific on how to decide "the best team" because realistically, the bigger guys from the newer generation would mow through the little guys of the 20s? so are we voting on who would win on the field or who had the best players of their respective times?

I'm basing it on production, with the thought that all of these players could have the same benefits if they came out at the same time. Killericon drafted Milchaske at G. He couldn't play there now, but the way I'm looking at it he was born in the modern era and would have all of the benefits coming up in this era.
So, with that thought, Milchaske could compete with Warren Sapps and Gilbert Browns.
But this is all obviously up to interpretation. Everyone will get to rank the teams and we'll see how it pans out.

And I don't see it as a question of maturity. My squad has 20 Hall of Famers and 7 AFL Hall of Famers. And several of my other guys are getting Hall consideration.
I can back up all my guys with stats, HOF membership, and testimonials I found online.
Can your team measure up? ;)

THE OLD FARTS
The Old Farts were selected with two caveats – no current players and no Broncos, just to assure some objectivity.
Team Strengths:
DL – No better pass rush could be assembled. They are also great against the run
OL – Great technicians who can also be maulers when necessary.
QB – The most intelligent and mistake free duo ever
RB – If you are old enough to have seen OJ and Taylor, you know this is the perfect combination of speed and power. Looney is a gamble on greatness.
WR – The most acrobatic receiver in history with Warfield and te unstoppable big guy in Carmichael. Versatile Gifford and homer pick Dowler make it a formidable group.
TE - Mackey defined the position and Trumpy was damn good despite being annoying as a commentator.
LB – Speed, brains and durability
DB – Barney is a contender for the best ever. Most won’t remember Woodson, but he was incredible in his day. The Safety tandem of Anderson and Scott was one of the most productive of all time with LeBeau, the position is more than solid.
ST – Best PR and KR in history. Best punter of the 60’s and a very solid K who went to the pro bowl as a kicker and LB.
QB - Roger Staubach, Bob Griese
RB - OJ Simpson, Jim Taylor, Joe Don Looney
FB - Joe Perry
WR - Paul Warfield, Boyd Dowler
WR - Harold Carmichael, Frank Gifford,
TE - John Mackey, Bob Trumpy
T - Bob St Clair, Winston HIll

DL - Weak against the run, sure. Quarterbacks will be having nightmares the night before, though. Sapp and Rice are HOFers for sure, LC Greenwood was considered last time, and Perry, well, he's the fridge.
OL - Zimmerman and Wright bookend a beauty of a line, tough through and through. Wright is a HOfer, Zimmerman should be, and Nalen is, in my opinion, a shoe-in. Michalske lacks size, but he was the premier guard through the 30's and 20's...and if he's gets overpowered, Rasy Brown, the steadiest guard in history, will be right there. Shields may be a Chief, but he's a great one...again, a sure-fire HOFer.
QB - Bart Starr? You really need me to write a fluff piece on Bart Starr??? He's backed up by Micheal Vick...who I believe, with limited attempts, can turn any game around. He's electric.
RB - All new backs...just the way I wanted. Alstott and Faulk are a combination anyone would have sold all four of their limbs for in 2000. One is smashing, over the top 3rd and inches type, the other is the quickest(Outside of Sanders), best pass-catching RB in the past 50 years...maybe more. I keep Tiki and Portis around in case I need to go with a more orthodox style.
WR - I can honestly say that I have one of the best WR core out of us all. I'm sorry. It's annoying to say, but dammit it's true! Let's break it down:
Tim Brown - 2nd on the all-time receiving list. Nuff' Said.
Lynn Swann - A HOFer. 70's all-decade team. Super Bowl Silver Anniversary Team. God-like in the big game. He's my number 2 receiver.
Joe Horn - A huge drop off, but a big threat for a slot receiver.
TE - Weak. I traded away John Mackey. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Alge Crumpler backs up Dave Casper...He's good, but he's not even worthy of being mentioned in the same breathe as Mackey. Goddmanit.
LB - Best. Corps. Ever. Jim Lynch - The coverage guy from the Chief's famed trio...Al Wilson - Do it all. Cover? Hell yea. Hit? Ask Deion Branche. Ray Nischke - Ummm.....He's Ray Nischke. Come on.
DB - Behind my TE corps, it's the weakest part of the team. I've got a bunch of guys who can hit and cover...but do neither well enough for this league. Oh! Except Paul Krause. He's my best pick, in my opinion. All-time leader in interceptions...top-notch Character guy...on the field leader.
ST - Blah. Ismail never panned out in the big leagues...but they did'nt use him EXCLUSIVELY as a returner. If he sucks, Swann did a mean return as well. Rackers and Barker...in this league....suck.
Overall Mentality - A spread offense...that runs more than passes. I want the names on the backs of my WRs jerseys to fool the opposing HC to leaving a nickel guy out more often than needed; as they should. I plan on playing cat and mouse with opposing defensive coordinators...since it's a rather balanced attack. Either the run or the pass can get the job done..I want the defensive Coordinators to think I favour one. Faulk can tear it up. My Defense will be fluid. Safeties will play corner...Corners will play Safety. The transition from 3-4 to 4-3 will happen often. Really often. I will need a little bit more studying time from my LBs...but I think we can pull it off. It'll keep the other side guessing, that's for damn sure. They don't even know if it's a 3-4 or a 4-3 the next play, never mind what we're going to do with it. Oh, and expect corner blitzes. A lot of it.
Fair assessment, no? Please rip into it.

My ranking of the teams (1 is worst, 15 best):
15 -- Slap
14 -- Old Dude
13 -- Eddie Mac
12 -- Big Guy
11 -- Bronco LB 52
10 -- Phisg
9 -- Arkie
8 -- Ray Finkle
7 -- Dipso
6 -- Clockwork Orange
5 -- Killericon
4 -- Youcandoit/Toad
3 -- Rshackleford
2 -- Mr. Trout
1 -- BMF Bronco
Here's some thoughts I had while disecting the teams.
Arkie – Strong O, Weak D, not enough defensive players. D-line will get worn out. John immediately puts this team in the top 10. DEs are average in this league. Hinton may be subpar in protecting Elway’s blindside. No backup linebackers. B-
BMF – Strong DTs, DEs are pedestrian after Strahan, Romo and Alzado will not be as effective without steroids (not allowed in this league, baby!), Rod Smith starts ahead of TO? That’ll be great for team chemistry. Who plays at the other CB? Deron Cherry? Very thin at DB, the combo of Brady and Payton is great, Turley at LT? That’s just asking for trouble on Brady’s blind side. Who’s returning punts and kicks? D+
Phisig – Nice skill positions, is McNabb one of the 16 greatest QBs of all time? A bunch of maulers on the Oline, should be able to open creases fir Barry, Dillon will be valuable at the goal line, Very nice DTs, the DEs are just all right for me, starting Suggs over Taylor? I disagree there. Not a lot of “hands” guys at DB, but they’ll knock the crap out of you, nice set of LBs, can Sauerbrun stay out of trouble? Cowher will get them to play with heart and ferocity. TE is below average for this league. B
Eddie Mac – Really solid team. Montana to those WRs is gonna be great. Sayers will be perfect for the west coast offense, I’d start Odoms ahead of Coates, nice OTs, Very nice DEs. Wow what a rotation! Not thrilled with the NTs, a very “hands” oriented defensive backfield. Who brings the thunder? Noll is the wrong coach for the offensive personnel! B+. (I’d say A- with a good coach who installs the west coast offense.)
Big Guy – Very nice QB, RB, FB, Looney is a wasted pick but we talked about that, a little thin at WR, great TE, solid O-line, strong, deep group of DTs, good DEs, average group of LBs, good DBs. No head coach, that takes the grade down! I guess Staubach can pilot the ship.... B
Slap – Very well rounded. Strong running game and a no-nonsense passing attack. A third down back would have been nice to see. Maybe bob hayes cold be that guy. Only 6 DLineman, they may get worn out towards the end of a game, I only count 39 players on Slap’s roster, who am I missing? Ah that list is missing Joe Wahington (3rd down back) and Jeff Siemon MLB. CBs are the weakest part of the team, All the criticisms here are just nitpicking. A-
Clockwork – Bush is unproven, Moss is a head case-locker room cancer type, Good skill set otherwise, Very nice OL (Erik Williams being only weak spot), TE is OK to under average, Wow - great DEs, DTs are OK, starting OLBs are good, backup OLBs are weak, Zach Thomas plays passing downs as well? Woodson is NOT one of the all time greats –he’ll get toasted in this league. The rest of the DBs are OK. B-
RShackleford – QB, RB, and FB are very nice combo, only 3 WR? Who does Marino throw to in 4 or 5 WR sets? Winslow and....?, good TEs, Hamilton is not an all time great, does Christy back up every Oline position? A couple of players missing from his roster. DT Ted Washington. D is stronger than the O, great DEs and good DTs, Tatupu has been good one year, Shack’s team is two players short. His team being undermanned will affect his grade. It could go up if he adds two more players. C+
Old Dude – A keen eye for talent, but hurt himself unnecessarily with a salary cap. Great skill positions, WR could use some depth, Good Oline, C is the weakest point there, TE is solid, could have used some bigger Dlineman to go against “modern” players, Solid, athletic LBs, Red Grange only plays as your 3rd Safety? He’s got to be used more than that. Groza would never score as much or be as accurate as soccer style kickers, fantastic, smart head coach who will get the most out of the team. A-
Killericon – You definetly have a RBBC, Portis gets the hard yards, Tiki is the big play guy, Marshall is the pass receiver. Are there enough balls to go around for all of them? Does Starr throw the deep ball well? Becasuse that’s what your WR do best. Good wideouts but I wish you had a possession receiver, Good starting TE, should have followed that up with a blocking TE, very nice Oline, L.C. was a STEAL, weak at DT, DEs are OK, I’m sorry, Nitschke is your starting MLB. Period. Al comes in to run the
3-4. DJ is not one of the all time greats, nor Merriman. Adrian Wilson? Please. Gonsoulin is a FS - not a SS. Madden is OK. B-
Ray Finkle – Favre is too erratic for my tastes, Very nice WR, RB, and FB. Backup WRs are weak. Good front line, Pace may be overrated, Only 6 DLineman and they could get worn down in the 4th, good LBs, Christiansen is a FS not a SS, Merton Hanks stinks, Cecil or Tilman should be starting at SS. B-
Bronco LB 52 – 3 QBs? Overkill on a 40 man roster, I might take either QB over Peyton, very nice RBs, No FB, four great WRs, TEs are OK, solid Oline, I can’t argue with any Dline pick, love the LBs, Ed Reed may not be an all time great – fell off a bit last year and needs 5 or 6 more all pro years, D backs are solid otherwise, has a defensive head coach AND a d-coordinator. Should have taken an O-coordinator like Coryell to get the O going. Halas always had killer Defenses. Very solid squad. B
Youcandoit/Toad – Alexander and LJ are not all time greats YET, Riggins and Walker are great picks, Boldin, Stallworth, and Ward are good WR, Walker, Miller and Keyshawn are wasted picks, Tony G is a solid pick, LeBron is a joke in this arena (but we’ve already discussed this), very good starting Oline, no backups on the OLine – Youcan is screwed with an injury, Pryce is not an all time great, Siragusa is OK, the rest of the Dline is good, Wilcox and Singletary are amazing, Vilma shouldn’t be there, good DBs, Lombardi will get the most out of them. C+
Dipso – Good Skill positions, Terrel has doesn’t bounce back well from injuries, 3 good WR, Mathis doesn’t measure up, Chad Johnson is a head case, very nice TEs, Love the Oline, Only 6 Dlineman, Very Good Dlinemen tho’, Good LBs and nice DBs, idiot K who chokes in big games, Deangelo Hall is not an all time great, great HC. B-
Mr. Trout – Very good RB, QB, and FB, WRs are subpar – Smith is probably the best one, Gates is a reach at this point, great Oline, great starting DEs, DTs are weak but K Will has potential, Bobby Bell is great, Bulluck is a huge reach and not an all time great, Talley should be starting, same goes for Peterson, wonderful DBs, who’s doing the kick and punt returning? Good P and K, HC is OK. C
If Eddie Mac had Walsh or Shanny as his head coach I think I'd put his team #1. But honestly, there's not much seperating the top teams from the bottom with these caliber players.

A #15 vote gets a team 15 points, a #14 vote gets a team 14 points, etc.
edit -- I'm going to average the points. If not everyone votes totalling the points would not yeild a fair result.

Okay, I've scrutinized every roster and tried my best to put these super teams into some semblance of order. I rated each team on offense and defense and assigned point totals to each one. A perfect score on offense or defense would equal 50 points. A perfect score on both would result in a score of 100 points. I assigned bonus points for special teams or head coach when applicable. Theoretically, a team could score over 100 points under this system. Undoubtedly, most of these teams would receive that kind of rating if compared against ordinary teams, but grading was done on a curve to provide more contrast in scoring.
In order from first (15 points) to last (1 point). Each team's final score is included.

I marked some teams down for easily correctable reasons. Bad bench composition was a common theme for the lower ranked teams. Of course, many of these teams were drafted by more than one person, so these kind of planning errors are to be expected.
The other thing that caused teams to be marked down were too many young players. Basically, anybody with fewer than five full seasons in the pros was devalued in my rankings, progressively per level of experience. Rookies might as well be open roster spots and even first and second year men are ranked lower.
Its simply not fair to project health and All Pro production for multiple seasons when so many great players over the years have started strong and then seen their careers derail for one reason or another. I understand this put some of the younger posters at a disadvantage, and I sympathize with wanting to draft players you've actually seen, but I have to establish some level of criteria in my own evaluations.

Extremely strong at the skill positions on offense. OL solid, but stronger on the interior than at tackle.
These guys are going to kill quarterbacks routinely with one of the best pass rushes assembled. I question their toughness against the run, though and the lack of depth up front is a weakness.
2. BMF Bronco
QB: Tom Brady, Lenny Dawson
RB: Walter Payton, Edgerrin James, Ahman Green
FB: Cory Schlessinger, Otis Anderson
WR: Rod Smith, Terrel Owens, Bryalon Edwards

Payton and Brady form a strong nucleus in the backfield, but the OL is below average for this league and an overall lack of depth hurts this team a lot.
The defense had the potential to be excellent, with lots of talent in the front seven, but only five DBs leave this team unable to compete.

I really like this team. The RBs lack depth, but its hard to find much fault with anything else on offense. The starting O line is very mobile and aggressive.
Probably my favorite defense. Hopefully Cowher can bring Bud Carson back to install what should be the most lethal Cover 2 anybody has ever seen.

Perfect personnel for the WCO. As solid top to bottom on offense as anybody.
Lots of talent on defense, but I'm not sure all the pieces fit that well. Eight D linemen is too many for a 3-4 base. The linebackers are solid, but could have been much better. Deion provides a boost in the secondary and on special teams. Minnifield might as well don a flak jacket for all the footballs that will be flying his way.

A no nonsense, physical approach on offense. If there's any weakness, it might be that OJ is the only legitimate breakway threat.
A strong and versatile front four sets the tone on defense, backed by a cerebral and underrated group of LBs.
Fine special teams corps hamstrung by lack of kicker. No head coach.
7. Clockwork -- The Sacrelegends
QB: Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham
RB: LaDanian Tomlinson, Reggie Bush

Nobody can match this team for depth and quality on both sides of the LOS. They will simply pound most of their opponents into submission in the trenches.
Walsh should elevate Moon's game to a whole new level. LT and Rathman are great starting duo, but there is precious little depth at RB. The strength on offense is a very physical and nasty O line.
This is also the main strength on defense. I think the personnel on this squad would be equally effective in a 4-3 or 3-4 base.
8. Rshackleford -- The Fightin' Daves:
QB: Dan Marino, Troy Aikman
RB: J. Bettis, T. Thomas
FB: M. Strong, C. Heyward

KR/PR: D. Howard

Marino will mean a strong passing game, but this team badly needs speed on offense, especially in the backfield. Only one backup OL means this team wouldn't even be able to compete. Way too young and too many holes on the bench. Special teams nothing special. Outstanding head coach.
9. Old Dude's OLD DUDES
QB: Sammy Baugh, Sid Luckman

Judging the strength of this team can best be done by noting everyone on the roster who was once (or still) regarded as arguably the best ever at their positions in league history: JBrown, Hutson, Munoz, Lilly, Marchetti, PBrown. Also, Upshaw was the best holder ever.

Strong offense, with the exception of Alstott, who I've never particularly liked. Tons of explosive talent in the backfield. Strong WRs and TEs and a mobile O line.
The defense is much weaker. The starting front four is pretty solid. Nitchske would undoubtedly move to MLB and put Wilson on the outside, where he would thrive. Very slow secondary would get picked on mucho.

Grinding, workmanlike offense, just needs a little more speed to be complete.
Nasty defense. Butkus, Bednarik, Night Train and JBrowner equal lots of welts for the opposition. Personnel ideal for a 3-4, but the downside would be getting punched in the face by Butkus when you make the suggestion.
Tremendous special teams from top to bottom.

My quarterbacks don't set passing records they just win championships.
Van Buren was the best post war back until JB came around. You guys already know about Terrell Davis so nothing I can say that you don't already know.
Lozenzo Neal is a great blocker. Wherever he goes his running back numbers go up. And were he left they go down.
WR's Cris Carter is the greatest reciever not named Jerry Rice. Herman Moore is big and stong. Chad Johnson is always open. Ask him.

good points slap and yes, yes, the OLine is killin me. i was planning on picking those up in FA because there were a ton that i had targeted. about the durability, projection on young players. i think the same point could be made about guys like TD or gale sayers. i mean TD only "played" for 4 years then got injured, so did he warrant to be picked #20 or something? by that criteria, no. i drafted players on the criteria of what they did in their prime for the most part.

I think its valid to consider how brief the primes were for guys like TD, Sayers, Earl Campbell and some other backs who were drafted highly. You also have to consider these guys had 3-4 year stretches that compare favorably with the best years of Jim Brown's career. Sayers had moves nobody ever say before, TD was the workhorse on back to back champions and Campbell was the most dominant power back ever.
I think you have a ton of talent on your team, but the roster composition was a real problem. Besides the iron man offensive line, you're running a pretty lean mixture on defensive reserves, too.

Think how I must feel up to this point!! Oh well, if I come in last, I will bring out the defense that less than half of my team were my picks( I took over for philbacka, or someone)! I definetly had a lot of fun though! I would of also liked to join the MLB draft but I am going on holidays pretty soon. Good luck to all 15 of you!! Special thanx to Dipsomaniac for getting me into the draft.

A viable defense at that. Your team changed hands 3-4 times.

I got stuck with some pretty bad picks before I picked up the team. I would not have drafted Favre but only kept one QB due to his playing streak....I only took 5 DE's since I planned on a 3-4 with the big tuna.....but I got slammed for both of those moves...

Not that it is a big deal, but DT Ted Washington is missing from my list of players. Hopefully this will sway all of your opinions! That brings me up to 39 picks by my account, so maybe I somehow lost 2 picks along the way. Whatever, no big deal.

With the 56th pick, Old Dude selects
Sammy Baugh, QB, P, DB, Redskins
http://www.profootballhof.com/assets/hof/mug1172.jpg
Led Washington to NFL titles in 1937 (his rookie year) and '42. (Made championship game 3 additional years, including a 14-15 loss to the Rams in which he played with separated ribs.) Led NFL in passing 6 times, Led in punting 4 times, and, in 1943, as a DB, he led the league in INTs. In 1943, he led in all 3 categories. This is the only time a single player has led the league in an offensive, defensive and special teams category. His punting average of 51.4 yards (in 1940), his career average of 45.1 yards per punt, and his passing completion percentage mark (70.3 in 1945) are still records. The passing percentage record is particularly impressive since he was never a “dink and dunk” guy. For example, on Halloween in 1948, Baugh set a new NFL record with 446 yards passing against the Boston Yanks at Griffith Stadium in Washington. Incredibly, he did it throwing only 24 passes, for an average of 18.6 yards per pass. (And, by comparison, Joe Montana’s highest single-season completion rate was 70.2 percent.)
Baugh’s career marks show 1695 completions on 2995 attempts. He threw for 21,886 yards and 187 touchdowns. He rushed for 9 touchdowns. These stats are also very impressive when you consider the rules of the day, the shorter schedules, and that fact that Baugh did not switch to a being a conventional T-formation QB until 1944. Up to that time, he was employed as a single wing tailback. It should also be noted that the NFL, at the time, had no specific regulation about footballs. Cleveland, in particular, used to over-inflate the pigskin when they played Baugh, just to make it more difficult to throw. (I can’t think of a bigger testament to a player’s greatness than when his opponents had to cheat on the equipment, just to slow him down.)
Baugh lasted 16 seasons, which was quite a feat, since back in the 40’s, there was no such penalty as “roughing the quarterback.”
Performances of note: On “Sammy Baugh Day” in 1947, he passed for 355 yards and 6 touchdowns against the Chicago Cardinals, that season’s eventual champions. This was not the first time he’d thrown 6 TDs in a single game. He also did it on Halloween, 1943. (Apparently, he liked that holiday.)
Side note: After college, he joined the St. Louis Cardinals as a third baseman, and only switched to football after being sent to the minors.
Famous quote: After a coach exhorted him at practice to try to throw the ball directly at his receiver’s eye, Baugh asked, “Which one?”
At 91, Baugh is the last living charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Additionally he has been honored by the Redskins with the retirement of #33, the only jersey they have ever retired..
