And, sources tell TSN, the prohibited substance that resulted in this positive test, which was reportedly carried out in November or December as part of pre-Olympic testing, was not an anabolic steroid but a “masking agent” for steroids that is commonly found in hair restoration drugs, with brand names such as Rogaine and Propecia.
I guess if you're a hockey player and look like this... :afro: you are banned from the olympics!!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Alex Tanguay. He was on Canada's preliminary 81-man Olympic eligibility list but not on the final Olympic team 23-man roster or three-man taxi squad. He's also lost quite a bit of hair for at 27-year old.
***edit### nevermind. It was Jose Theodore who tested positive. What a season he's having!

This season couldn't get much worse for Theo.
Perhaps it's the curse of the undeserved Hart & Vezina Trophies catching up with him.

Good thing they don't test for Viagra, all those Canadians would be in trouble.

I don't understand how hair gives you unfair advantage.
It certainly hasn't enhanced his performance :~ohyah!:

You're right CO, it was Jose Theodore.

Head Team Physician, Dr. David Mulder, discussed details of the test.
Theodore tested positive for the hair restoration drug, Propecia, which is not an anabolic steroid but does act as a masking agent. Mulder stated that Theodore has been using the product for "eight to nine years."
"He's been taking it on the advice of a dermatologist," Mulder told the assembled media. "And he has had very good success and he feels it has helped hair growth and prevented further loss and he has taken it with my knowledge."
It's getting so bad for Theo this year, they're even trying to deal him on e-bay...

That ebay listing is just classic.
The seller ended this listing early because the item was lost or broken
Ha!
Certainly not worth the paper he's written on, I am sure you will find his unbridled Québécois charm is unmatched and could brighten up any arena while keeping that bench warm for your hard working players. Act now and we'll throw in his sidekick and travelling companion, one pathetic half-wit of a man named Mike Ribeiro. We're not quite sure what he does but if it's anything like his hockey game, I'm sure it will bring your countless hours of nausea and send you into fits of violent rage. While we could spend hours describing all the many beautiful qualities of Jose Theodore, prettiest goalie in the National Hockey League, we will leave the rest for you to discover in your many, many seconds of joy and lifetime of misery.
AND HEY FREE SHIPPING! FOR THE LOVE OF GRETZKY TAKE HIS MAN AND RUN LIKE THE WIND! PLEASE! I'M BEGGING!
note that i do not own josé. i hope never to own josé and if you bid on this you'll probably get nothing, which is about the same thing .
Good gawd, that is hysterical!
The questions and answers are great too.

Super puck stopping hair!!
From what I've seen of him this season, there isn't much puck stopping going on.
Now if we're talking about Kerry Fraser....that is some super puck stopping hair!

The only thing that's gone right for Theo this season was stopping the two shots from the guy who broke into their practice last month.
I'm so glad we didn't trade for his overrated ass.

propecia covers the proof of steroids apparently
From what I read, it can act as a masking agent for one specific type of steroid (not sure which).
I was wondering why in the hell he'd be taking propecia until I thought back to the 2000-01 season. I remember the Avs acquiring Steve Reinprecht in the Rob Blake deal and being amazed that he already had a solid fivehead going at the age of 25.
Maybe Theo had the same issues. Who knows?
