View Full Version : "Authentic" jerseys on eBay...
Guys -
A coworker of mine has been buying "authentic" jerseys on eBay for ~$50. He brought one in to me to check out and it indeed looks like the real deal - high quality, stitched letters and patches, elastic bands on the arms, authentic looking NFL and Reebok logos, new Reebok tags. They simply look GREAT.
How can this be? A jersey that retails for $229 for $50 brand new?
I just won an auction on an authentic Plummer (in alternate orange) for $39.99.
What gives --- or are they just out there for the taking?
Speaking of jerseys on eBay, though, I did get a brand new Bailey white replica for $25 at the beginning of this season.

Real jersies for $50? I'd be highly skeptical.

I bought an Elway throwback jersey, Mitchell & Ness, for 50% of retail. All the tags were on it, and the guy claimed he owned a store and it was overstock. He had great feedback. He may or may not have been lying, but considering there were tags on it, I'm inclined to believe it's legit. Plus I've put it throw the wash and it hasn't fallen apart.
The real issue with bootlegs is that many of them fall apart easily. If you can find a jersey, real or fake, that holds up after washes, you can wear to games, etc, then you're set.
Hell, the real jerseys aren't much better. I bought a real Ash replica jersey at the mall, and after like 2 washes the numbers are coming off. Maybe a bootleg might be better then that?

Oh, and if you really do not want a bootleg, avoid buying from out of the country, and also some people are weary of buying things coming out of New York and New Jersey.

Lot of army folks where I'm at and they get sent to korea for a year and come back with boatloads of jerseys. There as authentic as can be. I have an elway authentic jersey that I paid 200 + for years ago and I cant tell the difference between the 40 dollar ones from korea. Where is the seller from?

Yep, orange replica jersey.
Well, I've got 2 "real" replicas (Champ and Portis) so I'll give a comparison in a few days when the "authentic" arrives.
Ebay is full of knock off's. Some are so good you can't tell. But that's the nice part of it. Why pay $250.00 if you can't afford it?
If your happy with the product then that is trully all that matters.

Here's the deal, they are fakes, but that's not a problem.
Any Mitchel & Ness jersey that's sold for under $150 is fake. I was thinking about selling them, so I called up M&N. They told me that they do not use distributors. They sell directly to retail stores. They sell their jerseys for half the retail price. Most of their jerseys are around $300. These jerseys on Ebay that are $150 or less are fakes. I see these jerseys sold on street corners out of the back of somebody's trunk. They are all fake. The funniest thing is when I see OJ M&N jerseys. M&N does not make OJ jerseys, and those fake ones have "Simpson" on the back. USC has never put names on the back of their jerseys.
The reason why I say it's not a problem is because those fake jerseys are a much better deal. The only reason to buy a real M&N jersey for all that money is because you don't have to worry about it falling apart. The fake ones might. But I've heard from a number of people who bought a fake one and said it's held up just fine through many washes.
If the fake ones hold up, get one. M&N isn't authentic. No team has ever worn a M&N jersey on the field. M&N is a high quality replica. So are the fake M&N jerseys.
You are paying for the jersey, not the M&N tag, right? So who cares if it's M&N. Like I said, only pay $300 if you are worried about the quality. M&N jerseys won't fall apart. The fake ones might. But I've never heard anybody have a problem with the fake ones.

Yep, orange replica jersey.
The bottom line is this: Any replicas are silk-screened and they will not hold up to washings, first one or repeated...just ask Sass, as I bought her the Lelie orange replica one from the Broncos Store that started to peel off after one trip thru the laundry..........it's a total ripoff.
Replicas are a jip....sorry but it's true. It's better to pay the full price for the authentic one time than it is to keep plunking down for a cheap imitation that increases in price $10-$20 per year.
You guys can do what you want, but I look at it this way: I paid big cash for two authentics (one orange and one white) with my own name and fave number on them......as I see it, I'm done and set for life........... while the replica buyers will surpass me in purchases of cheap imitations of players who only hang around for 5 years tops in no time flat (especially if the price continues to increase $10 to $20 bucks a year like they have been).
It's your money, do what thou wilt.

I will prob by an authentic eventually, but sropping 300 is tough for me.

Reebok upgraded their replicas. They now have sewn on numbers instead of printed numbers.
My son has had three jerseys. All kids jerseys have printed on numbers. The first one the number on the front came right off. The other two are in perfect condition. I normally take them out of the dryer after 10 minutes, instead of leaving it in for the full dry cycle.

You'll pay just as much for replicas as you would one time for an authentic....go retro if personalization is not your style, an Atwater, Elway or McCaffery (or even a Sharpe) is never going to go out of style.
With the increases like I pointed out happening every year...it's something to consider.....ask anyone who was suckered into a Ruben, Portis or Griese jersey.

Hey, it's your money.
I'm done spending on jerseys......for good. In three years $220.00 for an authentic is gonna seem like an absolute steal.
I got a Plummer replica in 2003 for around $58.00....they are now $84.00 at NFLShop.
No way am I going to do that every year.......no way, I'm done.

That's the way I do it. The only current Broncos that I would get would be Rod Smith or Tom Nalan. Even if they finish with other teams they will always be known as Broncos. Before last year I had Trevor Pryce on that list. Not any more. I wouldn't even buy an Al Wilson jersey. You never know.
I have two jerseys. One orange Elway that my parents got me like 15 years ago. It's a replica. The other is a white TD jersey, the old one, which is authentic. I'm looking to get a white Elway jersey, the old one, and a orange TD jersey. Then a Sharpe jersey. All old ones, I'm still boycotting the new ones.
No way a buy one of the current players. Like DJ Williams. I think he has a bright future, but there is no telling how long he'll be a Bronco. It would be a waste of money to buy his jersey at this point.
I remember when I went to the final game at Mile High Stadium there was a guy with a Gus Frerotte jersey. I bet he wants his money back.

Got my 3 yer old a McCaffrey jersey (replica) from the Broncos store at the stadium last year. He has worn it maybe 10 times and now numbers are fading. Got him a new bigger one (Plummer) at the Pats game so he has only worn it a few times. Pass on the McCaffrey jersey to the 20 month old and now he looks like the "old timer" fan and his older brother looks like the bandwagoner! I guess if it is worn and maybe the player is retired, u look like you have been around awhile. Enjoy!

If you're shopping ebay be careful and read the negative feedback even if the positive feedback is over 98%. I bought a couple of jerseys in November and was pretty happy about the deal I got. The guy never did send them. I sent quite a few emails before I finally got him to respond. He said he sold out of one of them but could send the other. I never got anything and he wouldn't respond to my emails after that. When I left negative feedback he responded by saying he gave me a full refund. I filed a dispute with paypal that went on about 1 1/2 - 2 months. They awarded me a refund but held back $50 and told me that the guy would have to pay me the other $50 before he could accept anymore payments via paypal. However, because paypal took so long to settle the dispute the guy was no longer registered on ebay. So do be careful.

Don't dry the jerseys for more then ten minutes. The dry fast, but when they are left in for the full dry cycle the numbers will melt.

Drying any colored clothes in the dryer and washing them in warm or hot will make them fade over a period of time. Typically if you want the jerseys to last the longest, wash them in cold and hang dry or let them dry flat. This will keep the color for the longest.

Say what you want but I got a atwater mitchell and ness jersey for 87 dollars with shipping included out of Korea in 4 days. It could be a knock off but it's super high quality and people give me props for it all the time. I also ordered a largent jersey for a seahawk friend of mine and that was a great jersey too. I was skeptical at first but when the guy has sold over 5000 jerseys with high feedback I took a chance. Also the only bronco jerseys he had were atwater, elway, and meck(same ones as M&N) I took a chance. I don't know if they are fake or not and I don't think anyone else could either.

I just wanted to say that this particular seller(nystyles2005) was really an understanding guy. I called him on the fake and he went ahead and cancelled my bid. I'll probably end up still getting one of these "authentics" but it'll either be home blue or alternate orange as they don't have as many fine details like the away jersey

BTW I could use some jersey sizing help. I'm not real familiar with the nfl authentics. In the replicas I wear a large and they're just right, but in my experience with my NIFL game worn jerseys the larges(not reebok) are awfully tight and when I order my jersey last year I was told when I ordered my new Cavalry custom that with authentics you want to go a size larger because of the cut of the jersey. I was wondering if this holds true to the nfl authentics?

OK I got my "authentic" alternate tonight. At first I thought the blue was deeper but it turns out that the Orange is WAY brighter than my replica. Overall I think the quality is solid. Too a quick glance it looks like the real deal. The only things that set it apart are 1) the stitching on the inset doesn't continue to the next 2) The nfl logo on the neck looks "sloppy" 3) There is a slight stitch error on part of the name plate. 4) Once again the Orange is nigh-neon compared to the normal reddish orange
The price is lower than that of a new replica so I think its a pretty good deal
Edit: For size info The 52 is very slightly larger than my larger replica

I have been turning into the round mound of non-rebound for years...I'm not fat, but like the loose fit....seems like these chinese think a large fits someone 195 pounds...Beezer is trying to piss me off pawing and biting my ankle...
Anyway, my advise is to buy bigger because it may shrink...a decent quality knockoff who cares...I don't mind giving some Korean worker 15 cents a copy...

The cloth that the jerseys are made of doesn't shrink but the lettering will, (if it is stiched on) that is why cold water is a must when washing them. You can put them in a dryer but I reccomend you set it on fluff or no heat, it dries quicker than if it is laid flat and you also don't get the indentions in the shoulders from hanging up wet and heavy.

I took a chance on a Plummer jersey that was listed as authentic on ebay because it was cheap. I got it about a week ago. Everything was sewn on but it was NOT an authentic. The material on the sides, cuffs and sleeves of an authentic is spandex. This jersey had the same material as the rest of the jersey even though the auction advertised otherwise. Also, I have a couple of authentic jerseys and the sizing on this one was really out of whack from those. I sent the guy an email and he agreed to refund my money if I sent it back. I assume I'm out the overpriced shipping costs but I'm just glad that I'll get my money back.

I'm gonna be the orther guy here, I believe I actually bought the same thing as orange crusher from more than likely the same seller. I would recommend the knock off. Yes its probably closer to an EQT jersey because of the lack of spandex, but I found that the price was right. Most players on a current roster will cost from $60-75 alone for a replica and The $50 I paid (including over priced shipping) was great. Also for some reason I like the really bright orange.

Whether they're real or not there is a long thread on eBay about it.
-------------------------------------------------
Last night at a local mall I came across some "authentic" Steelers jersey's with the Super Bowl logos on the sleaves. These jersey's were all stichted. Asking price $125. The jersey's look fishy to me.
This morning I called Rebook, who put me in touch with Logo Athletics, the company that manufacturers the jerseys for Reebok. They know all about the eBay jerseys.
THEY CONFIRMED THAT THEY ARE NOT MAKING ANY AUTHENTIC SUPER BOWL JERSEY'S.
They are ONLY making screen printer jerseys. If you are buying a Steelers Super Bowl jersey from nystyles2005, it's fake!
Don't believe me? Call Logo Athletics 1-800-955-6467, option 3. They can help you verify any jersey you have bought and are very aware of the eBay jersey problem.

Hogan, those Flyers jerseys aren't legit either. If you notice, the A on Forsberg's and Gagne's jersey is a white layer over orange. In real life, it's just white. A good hockey jersey place is icejerseys.com. It's more expensive, but they're quality jerseys. I got a Recchi replica two years ago and it is amazing. (Obviously not the best choice in the world, but he's still one of my faves so no big loss. The other jersey I have is Primeau. I seem to have bad luck with thses guys. As much as I love Gagne and Forsberg, the next one I get is probably gonna be personalized.)

Real jersies for $50? I'd be highly skeptical.
The AUTHENTIC jerseys the players actually wear are not the same as the AUTHENTIC jerseys they sell us.
An actual player's game jersey would go down to your knees - I've seen them. The ones they sell to us as "authentic" seem to be the same, but with about 12-18 inches of tail chopped off.

Just because it's from Korea does NOT mean it's fake.
Armani has two separate clothing lines, at least for men's suits and shirts. One line in made in Hong Kong, and the other (considerably more expensive) made in Italy.
Maybe Mitchell and Ness are the same. 8')

Overall, though, the quality seems superb....unless you're a real jersey conesiour I don't think you'd notice...in other words, I guarantee my "authentic" Plummer jersey will turn heads at my Fantasy draft next year. Especially considering it was 1/8 the cost of a real authentic, I'm very satisfied.

Just because it's from Korea does NOT mean it's fake.
Armani has two separate clothing lines, at least for men's suits and shirts. One line in made in Hong Kong, and the other (considerably more expensive) made in Italy.
Maybe Mitchell and Ness are the same. 8')
I agree because the tags are exactly the same as they are in the stores at the mall and under the mitchell and ness tag it says made in Korea. Mitchell and Ness just has them made for 20 dollars or so and ups the price to 300.

i have traveled to korea for work and bought a throw back elway jersey for $20. it looks real and have had for a couple years still looks new. alot of guys bought a bunch then sold them on ebay for $50. the place i was at had several stores that sold them all for $20 but most of the jersey's are older and not very current but maybe that has changed since i was there. they had all the throw backs and probowl jersey's from about 5 years ago.

If anyone knows where i can find an atwater jersey sweatsuit (i've seen them on the net before... and they are beautiful) can you please post or send me a pm... They look like the mitchell and ness jerseys, but are knockoffs. I saw one on ebay last week, but the item has since been removed, i'm gussing for copyright violation. Anyways these sweatsuits are marvelous and i really want one. If anyone has any leads...
OK I'm gonna bump this because I found this sweatsuit on sell.com and ordered it. I havent got it yet, and gave my credit card number to a guy over the phone (which i know is shady) but here are a couple of pics of this beautiful piece of seamstry.

I got the alternate orange Champ Bailey last year for $50. It's a thicker material, has the stretchy arm bands, a really nice jersey. The guy sells a whole bunch of star players, but didn't have that much Broncos selection

I have same one in away jersey but I never really told anyone because I don't want a bunch of atwaters running around, I have only seen my jersey one time being worn by someone else. paid 60 dollars for it and it is authentic.
