I cant wait till the Undrafted Free Agent Period. Those bidding wars will be fun. I have a funny feeling about who I think is looking at some of the same guys Im looking at. It should be interesting. Everyone will have 50k in bonus money to dole out, with the minimum bid for any individual player being 5k. I'll have a different thread once we get near the end of the draft setting forth all the rules.

It should be neat.

Playmaker who is always around the action...Very energetic with a non-stop motor...A good natural athlete...Solid and reliable tackler...Good pass rusher and blitzer...A big hitter who can lay the lumber...Was very productive in the Pac-10.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the size and bulk you look for...Is more quick than fast and lacks top speed...Struggles to take on and shed blockers...Seems to lack premier instincts and awareness...Isn't stout at the point...Does he matchup in coverage?

Notes:
Nickname is "Manimal"...JUCO transfer who started the last two years for the Sun Devils...Could be an ideal special teams guy and backup linebacker...Very good college player whose could contribute at the next level in the right situation.

Buffalo Bills select Derrick Martin CB Wyoming 5-10 202

Strengths:
Has good size...Excellent timed speed and quickness...Has good hands and ball skills...Closes fast and breaks up a lot of passes...Still young but has a lot of experience...Also has some special teams value...Still has a ton of potential.

Weaknesses:
Does not play up to his size...Not very physical or aggressive...Tackling leaves a lot to be desired...Doesn't support the run well...Still raw and needs some technique work...Work ethic is a question and he admitted to taking plays off.

Notes:
Came out after his junior season even though there was a big drop-off in his play from 2004 to 2005...Underrated but very productive player who certainly has the physical tools...A pure cover corner whose stock could rise as the draft nears.

Also called a mid rounder by Scott Wright...

Jeff Webb, WR, San Diego St.

6-2 1/8, 211, 4.4

Strengths:
Has good size and a solid frame...Athletic with great timed speed...Shows tremendous body control and ball skills...Has excellent hands and will make the highlight reel catch...Can adjust to poorly thrown balls...Strong and physical...A competitor with supreme confidence...Was very productive throughout his career.

Weaknesses:
Does not really play as fast as he times...Does not do much after the catch...Is not a great route runner...His overall toughness has been questioned...A disinterested blocker...Might have some character concerns as he isn't known as a hard worker and has a very high opinion of himself...Has shoulder concerns.

Notes:
Came through with a big senior campaign and notched 92 receptions for 1,109 yards and 10 touchdowns...Similar to Brandon Lloyd and just needs to round out his game...Has all the physical tools you look for and could end up being a steal.

Strengths:
Has great size and is cut...Knows how to use his big frame...Tough and extremely strong...Is not afraid to work the middle of the field...Was very productive at every stop along the way...Will break some tackles...Special teams potential.

Weaknesses:
Did not play against top competition...Does not have outstanding hands...Is not much of a deep threat and won't stretch a field vertically...Needs to become a better route runner...Will he be able to master a sophisticated pro offense?

Notes:
Was recruited by many powerhouse DI programs out of high school but did not qualify academically and then went the DII route after two years at a JUCO...One of the top sleeper prospects in the draft and an intriguing developmental guy.

With the 17th pick of the draft, the San Francisco 49ers select......

UCLA TE Marcedes Lewis
http://www.draftshowcase.com/MarcedesLewis2.jpg

SF has alot of needs, but perhaps most of all, they need a big time weapon on offense for QB Alex Smith. This WR class is below average and I dont like to reach. Lewis is very athletic, has excellent hands and runs precise routes. Was very impressive in the Senior Bowl practices. He also can stretch the defense deep despite a purported slow 40 time. This kid is a great athlete and playmaker and he hasnt even reached the ceiling yet, even though he has been very productive at UCLA the last two years. He will be a huge upgrade over the often injured and quite mediocre Eric Johnson. Some people are wondering why SF did not go for running backs White or Williams, but I have faith in Frank Gore. He had a fine rookie year and has an excellent combination of vision and power.

The pick was made at 5:24 Pacific Standard Time, February 8th.

The Dallas Cowboys (Bronco LB 52) are on the clock.

The absolute biggest reach of the draft so far. Mercedes Lewis was not a first round draft pick before he ran at the combine. And he sure as hell isn't a first rounder now. He was a fringe 1st rounder at best and he gets selected at 17? Fire that GM.

San Francisco is happy to select ILB Anthony Schlegel of Ohio State.

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/25/257354.jpg

SF has recently resigned its solid ILB Derek Smith and has Jeff Ulbrich
but the former is 31 and the latter is starting to age as well. Schlegel
will be a good 3-4 ILB prospect as a run thumper and intimidating force
in the box. Im very happy he lasted this long.

from NFL Draft Countdown:
Strengths:
Has a solid frame and good bulk...Outstanding football instincts...Very tough
and strong...Excels versus the run...Can deliver the big hit...A very solid and
reliable tackler...Does a good job of taking on blockers...Smart with premier
intangibles.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the ideal height you look for...Is not a great athlete...Lacks elite speed, quickness and agility...Really struggles in coverage...Range is basically limited to the tackle box...Upside might be limited to that of a situational player.

Notes:
Played his first two years at Air Force and was a two-year starter and team captain...Played in one of the most talented linebacking corps in recent memory and was productive...Will probably have to make it as a two down run thumper.

Pick made at 10:37 PST, Big Guy and the Panthers are back on the clock.

An outstanding natural athlete...Has great timed speed for a quarterback...Has a strong arm...Is a dual threat who is just as likely to beat you with his legs as he is throwing the ball...An instinctive runner...Versatile player with experience at multiple positions...Showed good hands in his time as a wideout...Very smart...A team leader with great intangibles who will help the team any way he can.

Weaknesses:
Might have to make a position change at the next level...Is not very accurate...Too eager to run and lacks pocket presence...Struggles to read the field and opposing defenses...Makes too many bad decisions...Doesn't have a lot of experience at any one position...Very raw and will need to be developed.

Notes:
Might project to wide receiver or running back...After years of bouncing around from position to position everything finally clicked for this guy in '05 and he came through with a great senior campaign and really put his name on the NFL map.

Charles Spencer was a good pick until his knee blew up.

Still, I give myself partial credit for addressing the areas of need that are plaguing the Broncos right now. ;D

Of course, I passed on quite a few studs, so I'm just as full of **** as anyone. :yep:

Bump.

Taking VY was a colossal fail of epic proportions...though I did select what ended up being 2 first round DL.

My draft wasn't all that bad. Mario Williams, Anthony Smith (5th rd) and Rocky McIntosh are all ok picks. I missed on Claude Wroten big time in the second round. Gerald Riggs, Jr was a wasted pick as well.

I like the Rocky pick, he is a solid player.

Gerald Riggs, I remember that guy. Wonder why he fizzled out, there was a lot of potential with him.
