We have had some doozies, especially with Dan Reeves, who always opened the second half with Winder for two. Every damn time for years.

There was some math midget that has said that going for it on 4 down is virtually always the right move...I think he said 54% even at the 50. Now mock isn't crazy (many will disagree)...but when you have a 4th and 4 from the 35 WTF are you doing punting?

For 15 yards of field position? That's the same as some idiot taking his helmet off! or one play! If it's 4th and 25 sure, but inside of 10 yards to go and 40 on in I go for it every time. Your going to convert many of these 4th downs, and if you don't...hell, kickoffs average the 28...what is giving up 10 more yards if your say...at the 38....

Chiefs made one of the best (worst) coaching decisions ever, when they hired David Gibbs.

Mike Martz refusing to run the ball in the Super Bowl has to rank up there.

yah lots of ppl have run strategic simulations on football using game theory and come up with "u should go for it on fourth down a lot."

also did anyone notice that 2 pt conversions were up over 50% this year? like 53 I think I heard...interesting!

I saw Dan Henning run a draw from his own one foot line when he was head coach in San Diego.

Marty Mornihinweg electing to kick off at the beginning of OT is another that boggles the mind.

It was like an 11 mile an hour breeze.

You could hear it whistling between Mornihnweg's ears.

while that was probably a dumb idea I think one of the things severely lacking in the NFL is an ability to recognize smart, aggressive strategic decisions.

even to digress more the formula of "run the ball and have a good defense" is basically fitting ur team to ur decision making ability. if u can do both those things ur decisions can be a lot more conservative, ie, u can always punt on fourth down, u can always run while ahead. which is why its so desirable.

also its of note that bellicheck has radically increased the # of fourth down attempts lately. martyball is on the wane!

While it won't classify as a coaching mistake...it was a disgrace for the Bears to give the ball to that fat ass the Fridge, instead of Walter Payton in SBXX.

The prevent defense has always amused me...it's like skipping down the yellow brick road.

Reeves running the sweep with Jamal Anderson on 4th and 1 in Super Bowl XXXIII was one that comes to mind.

It was predictable, but no less stupid.
