Ok, the State of Union just occurred, how did you think the president do? Was there anything that he said that stuck with you or do he miss talking about the thing that concern you? And how did you think the new VA Governor did?

It a public poll, because it for fun only

I missed the SOTU...but I did catch the response.Tim Kaine talked about the federal government needs to provide more service...the current administration is putting to much on the States. He basically said at one point we're not throwing enough money at education. He called out cronism like he's never given a buddy a job. I don't know ...he was kinda all over the place.

Nothing new on either side.

Kaine did a better job at tellin' it like it is , but offered no real alternative other than a catch phrase for the midterm elections ("There's a better way").

I'm especially proud to be a Libertarian tonight after seeing this circus of the complacent.

The dems responded, however, said nothing. Therefore, there really wasn't a reponse other than, we don't like what he is doing, but alas, they offer no answers. The 2008 election should be pretty much a repub sweep maintaining the presidency republican. I REALLY want to hear a plan out of the democrats, AND I want to see a leader step out of the pack in that group. We need fresh ideas, however, they have got to be realistic and can't TAX THE S#%T OUT OF THE AVERAGE AMERICAN. I'm predicting , that will be part of the democratic platform, whether advertised or not, and we simply don't need that right now. We need a solid fiscally responsible budget which gets the most bang for the buck as far as tax dollars are concerned..dman

I liked this a lot:

Keeping America competitive requires affordable energy. Here we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world.

The best way to break this addiction is through technology. Since 2001, we have spent nearly $10 billion to develop cleaner, cheaper, more reliable alternative energy sources -- and we are on the threshold of incredible advances.

Keeping America competitive requires affordable energy. Here we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world.
-- President BushSo tonight, I announce the Advanced Energy Initiative -- a 22 percent increase in clean-energy research at the Department of Energy, to push for breakthroughs in two vital areas.

To change how we power our homes and offices, we will invest more in zero-emission coal-fired plants; revolutionary solar and wind technologies; and clean, safe nuclear energy.

We must also change how we power our automobiles. We will increase our research in better batteries for hybrid and electric cars, and in pollution-free cars that run on hydrogen.

We will also fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn but from wood chips, stalks, or switch grass. Our goal is to make this new kind of ethanol practical and competitive within six years.

Breakthroughs on this and other new technologies will help us reach another great goal: to replace more than 75 percent of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025.

By applying the talent and technology of America, this country can dramatically improve our environment, move beyond a petroleum-based economy and make our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a thing of the past.

I also liked the part about medical liability reform, creating a commision to examine the full impact of baby boom retirement on SS, Medicare, and Medicaid. He didn't get his solution passed but he is still trying and I admire that. I also liked the part about addressing public responsibility and corruption of his fellow politicians, as well as prohibiting human cloning.

I am having a seriously difficult time trying to figure out what was said that made some people check...Did an outstanding job- Great Vision.

I will give points for the energy proposal (even though bushii warning me about oil dependency is like Jenna Jameson telling me about abstinence) But i completely agree with him on his statement and hope it is put into action in some way.

The "we will train 70,000 math and science teachers" was nice, but until i see what their plan is that statement has very little meaning.

Health Insurance: Nothing new here. Medical liability reform that arguably would have little to no effect on the cost of our insurance...and health savings accounts (that part had to be written by the banks). I just didn't hear any vision for the true type of reform that part of the system needs.

Social Security: not sure what he said about it. Any time a politician says they will form a committee my brain automatically shuts off.

well that about sums up the informative part of the speach... the other 40 minutes was Iraq, 911, WMD's, Terrorists, Stay the course, Resolve, 911, Dictator, Democracy, 911...

So when i look at the speech as a whole i just don't understand how people saw this as "Great vision"

I did say the same about the Dems. If you care to reread my posts, I've said time and again all the Dems did was point out the obivous problems and then offered up nothing more than a catchphrase for the midterm elections ("There's a better way"). No solutions, just a slogan....nice ::)

My point is W isn't worth two cents. He said absolutely nothing of realistic value and nobody the Dems put forth did either. Screwed? well, we've been screwed for years under this guy....and after seeing the continued ineptitude of the Dems, being screwed is looking more and more like it's going to be the way of the west.

None of those lofty plans W put forth will come about....and everyone knows it....it was all a total waste of time.

Thanks for everyone that voted. Traditional the president gets a short term boost from his state of union address. When I set up the poll I expected most of the responses to be in the great job area. The fact that it wasn't from our small sampling poll means that President really didn't hit the mark with most Americans concerns (their jobs/health, national security and border protection). Usually I pretty into major speeches from both parties, but last night I spent more time watching Frontline Europe Battle on Terror then the speech. Thanks again.
