I never realised that Brett made fun of John and his age before that game. Watching the highlights now and just saw that. Bet he really enjoyed chewing on his crow after that game. :strong:

I think every time Elway got mentioned to Favre, he made fun of him...including his mannerisms. But all in all, Favre looked up to John as a football player.
I remember those SB interviews...he watched Elway as a kid and never in his wildest dreams did he think he'd be playing against him...Brett thought he'd long be retired...
along with everyone else who never gave the Broncos a chance to win that game (13 point underdogs?!).

I saw that footage of Favre imitating Elway and I thought he was just joking around.
Favre did look up to Elway.
But one thing I cant stand about Favre, the media kickes his butt like he's some saint.

In all fairness, he was probably drunk and strung out on pain killers.
I forgive him.

Much of that was due to the Broncos' history in the SB instead of a fair spread based on the two teams playing in the game.

I believe so as well. I think the only people who knew Denver was better than those in the SB losses were the real Bronco Fans themselves. I couldnt say for sure we would have won that game but i knew damn well we would have beatent that spread. That Bronco team was worlds different than the ones in the past.

Not just the Broncos, but the AFC in general at that time. The AFC was viewed as the weak sister of the "real" NFL by many. We'd also just seen the Pats blown out by the Packers in Superbowl XXXI.
Personally, I'm suprised the spread didn't go higher than it was. After all, we were just the latest pretender in a long line. How sweet it was to be able to throw it all back in the faces of the unbelievers!

Crap! The 90 minute version is on. I wish I would have noticed this earlier. I would have recorded it. It's so much better than the 30 minute one that is always shown.

Brett Favre is the biggest phony in pro sports, hands down. He makes you believe that he is great teammate and great person but really he is just an attention whore who is the ultimate me first player.
Coaches can't coach him because he imposes his will and makes "Brett Favre Plays" for better or worse. He throws his teammates under the bus when dealing with management. He threw his offensive lineman under the bus when he ran straight into in Strahan so he could get the league sack record. His offensive lineman was so pissed about the play he wouldn't even talk to the media afterwards; but their was Brett acting like gay Brett hugging all over Strahan and doing his media shots with him all after the game. Same Brett Favre who said to the media, "There is nothing in my contract that says I have to mentor Aaron Rodgers." Geez, thanks Brett, you team player you.
Great player, but one hell of a phony.

No matter how many times i watch the replays of that game its always a emotional roller coaster for me. Although i love my wife very much my wedding will never live up to being my happiest day than the day that John Elway won his first Super Bowl.

Sack still stirs up Giant hornet's nest
By TOM SILVERSTEIN
of the Journal Sentinel staff
Last Updated: Jan. 7, 2002
Green Bay - The National Football League has decided to take Brett Favre's word that he did not serve up a sack to New York Giants end Michael Strahan on Sunday so he could break Mark Gastineau's long-standing season record of 22 sacks.
New York's Michael Strahan comes out on top for his record-breaking sack, as Packers' quarterback Brett Favre is left answering questions.
Should the Packers have given Michael Strahan the gimme sack?
The Green Bay quarterback insisted after the Packers' 34-25 victory that he didn't purposely run a bootleg on first and 10 from the Packers' 42 so that Strahan could sack him and raise his season total to 22 1/2.
However, there were so many pieces of evidence to the contrary - including the play itself - that most of the football-viewing world wasn't buying Favre's argument. Even some of his own teammates merely smiled or smirked at the notion that he had deviated from the play called in the huddle for some other reason than to allow Strahan to sack him.
Nevertheless, the NFL will not change the ruling on Strahan's sack. The league has the option to do so after viewing tape of the game, but Greg Aiello, vice president of public relations, said Strahan's record would stand.
Asked if the league had concerns about the integrity of the game being violated when one player allows a sack so another could set a record, Aiello said the issue had not been addressed. He said the league was accepting Favre at his word.
"Brett said he was attempting a pass," Aiello said. "That's good enough for us. A sack is a sack is a sack."
Favre was not available for comment Monday in the Packers' locker room, but coach Mike Sherman received several questions about the play in his news conference. Sherman defended his play call and refused to second-guess Favre's account of the play. But he also made it clear he didn't intend to give Strahan anything.
Sherman seemed unusually uncomfortable discussing the subject. He appeared to be walking a thin line between exposing his quarterback and defending him.
"We called '93 Blast,' which is a weak-side isolation play," Sherman said. "I don't believe you give anybody anything in this league; everybody has to earn what they get. I've always felt that way. You people pretty much know what I stand for."
As vociferously as Favre defended his actions after the game, many questions still linger. Why throw a pass in that situation when you're trying to run out the clock with a nine-point lead? Why was Favre chatting with Strahan before the play and did he tip him off that the bootleg was coming?
After the game, right tackle Mark Tauscher, who received the majority of snaps against Strahan, said "it was disappointing" that Strahan got the sack the way he did, particularly since it was the only sack the Giants got all day. He declined to comment any further on the play.
On Monday, neither Tauscher nor Earl Dotson, who saw a number of snaps at right tackle, was available for comment. "I'm sure 'Biscuit' (Tauscher) and Earl would rather have that big doughnut up there but, hey, he got it," center Mike Flanagan said. "What are you going to do, be mad at Brett?"

Good point, it seemed the Packer defense was pretty pissed about allowing us to score without a fight. They sort of took that as a slap in the face coming from their own coach. Cant really argue with them about that.

The Broncos' SB record at that time was probably part of the reason... but I think it was also largely due to the dominance the NFC had enjoyed over the AFC at that point in time. It had been well over a decade since any AFC team had won a SB.

Right... I was too lazy to look it up, but if memory serves me right the last AFC win before ours in SBXXXII was when the Fade won it in (Jan.) 1984.

I was living in St. Paul, MN at the time. Anyone unfamiliar with the Twin Cities might be surprised to learn that there are almost as many Packers fans there as Vikings fans. Anyway, it was definitely hostile territory for Broncos fans. Still, I remember being strangely confident of a Broncos victory. I figured that the O-line would just run circles around that man-mountain Gilbert Brown. I also thought that Shanahan would empty the backfield on the first play, just to mess with Holmgren's game plan (which he did). What a game!
