I don't think anyone can say OM hasn't been supportive of the team since the loss.. in the hours immediately following the end of the game I counted at least four "Thank You Broncos" threads posted here on the board.

This is a point of view that to some degree I can appreciate. There is a part of me that wonders what a few 4-7 win season would do to some of the faint of heart.

That said, I think that people are upset is actually a sign that they really do care about this team. Everyone was saddened to see them lose, especially after getting so close. However everyone was also suprirsed and glad to see them get so far. What looked like to most people (including myself) to be a 10 win team became a 13 win team that held the conference championship in their own house. That's pretty cool. And hey, we finally won a playoff game without Elway and even did so against the defending world champions.

We have a way to go, but I was looking at our team and we have a lot of really young guys playing for us. I like the team and I like where they are at. I also think that this year we really ARE a few players away from the Super Bowl.

Do I think fans are spoiled? Yes. John Elway is the standard for QB, Shannon Sharpe is the standard for tight end, Terrell Davis is the one for Running back, and Rod Smith for receiver. That will spoil anyone. That said, the fans really came back and woke Invesco up out of it's slumber this year. I think What happened this year has put the Broncos back into legit every-season contenders.

Things can only get better.

Wow. Do we live in a bubble here? For the most part, this place has taken the loss with a lot of positive spirit for what the team accomplished. Yeah, nobody goes home happy without winning it all, but in the grand scheme of things, we have a lot to smile about. We bucked the term "Browncos." We watched Jake's game progress. We won a playoff game. And the road to the Superbowl went through Denver, when everyone else had us at 8-8. I haven't see much of a call for Shanahan's head except from that dork who shut down his site once we beat the Patriots.

Then consider the future... We've got a possible five picks on the first day of the draft, two of them are first rounders. Shanahan and Sundquist claim we're in the best position capwise that we've been in years. We've got a team that has been one of the four best teams in the AFC for 3 years running (consider that in the last three years straight, the Steelers, Broncos, Patriots and Colts have all gone to the playoffs), and look to continue the trend with Oakland in limbo and the Chiefs hiring a 4-12 coach who can't manage a clock. And we've gotten the John Elway playoff monkey off our back.

I like where we're at. Nice to be on an upswing.

I felt much worse in '78 after the loss to the Cowpokes. Or how about the loss to the Jags in '97? Devastating. I was pissed after this one and initially I wanted to vent my anger at somebody - Shanahan, Jake, Coyer, etc. etc. Once I cooled down, I realized that this game was just one of those weird things.

I'm a 10 handicap golfer. Normally, I go out and shoot in the low 80s. Sometimes, on a good day, I'll shoot in the 70s. But every once in a while I'll go out there and post a 96 or something outrageous. It's just weird. My timing will be off, I'll have no feel for the club - like I'm holding a fireplace poker with a pair of oven mitts. No putts will drop. Every bounce will be bad. Every kick of the ball will take me into trouble. It makes no sense. But I've learned over time that every once in a while you have a day like that. You just muddle through, try to enjoy the fact that at least you're out there in the sun instead of cleaning the garage, and when it's over, you go have a beer, laugh it up with your buds, and flush that round out of your memory. Get the CB mentality. That's how this loss felt to me. Flush it. Next year looks very promising. :thumbs:

I've also only been a member of this board for going on 2 years, but I can say one thing. I'm in no way satisfied w/what Denver did this year. Simply because I'm still a little sick we aren't preparing to play in Detroit this week.

But that said, I think we have what we all want. Only one team is gonna be happy at the end of any given year, and this year sadly it won't be us. But, what we have is a team that shows it can and will contend for that title.

We had a home game for the AFC Championship this past year. So many things have to go right to get that. But, above all else, you have to have a team committed to getting there. We have that. A few bounces of the ball go our way in that game (as they did all year), we're in the Show.

What I am proud of most in this current team is to a man they aren't satisfied, yet don't sound down on themselves. They know they deserve to be playing another week, and I have no doubt this team will come out w/this as a fire behind them next season.

Then, with a straight face... these astute observers come into this forum and call for the replacement of Jake Plummer to fix our team's problems.

Fast forward to this season.

We see an example of how this team can play when our defense shows up (New England)... and what happens when they don't. (Pittsburgh)

Thankfully, most people have seen the light. Sure, you've got a few holdovers running the same illogical "blame the QB" takes here and there, but most people get it, now.

I felt much worse in '78 after the loss to the Cowpokes. Or how about the loss to the Jags in '97? Devastating. I was pissed after this one and initially I wanted to vent my anger at somebody - Shanahan, Jake, Coyer, etc. etc. Once I cooled down, I realized that this game was just one of those weird things.

I'm a 10 handicap golfer. Normally, I go out and shoot in the low 80s. Sometimes, on a good day, I'll shoot in the 70s. But every once in a while I'll go out there and post a 96 or something outrageous. It's just weird. My timing will be off, I'll have no feel for the club - like I'm holding a fireplace poker with a pair of oven mitts. No putts will drop. Every bounce will be bad. Every kick of the ball will take me into trouble. It makes no sense. But I've learned over time that every once in a while you have a day like that. You just muddle through, try to enjoy the fact that at least you're out there in the sun instead of cleaning the garage, and when it's over, you go have a beer, laugh it up with your buds, and flush that round out of your memory. Get the CB mentality. That's how this loss felt to me. Flush it. Next year looks very promising. :thumbs:

Yeah, but Plummer learn a LOT of bad habits while in Arizona. He's been in Denver for 3 years right now and will be even more successful as his play continues to evolve. My post was not intended to be a comparison of "unfair" proportions but rather to show that even Elway had games where his turnovers played a role in the team losing a big game. That kind of stuff is not limited to Jake Plummer.

I want to see how Jake bounces back next season. One reason he developed bad habits in Arizona was because he was comfortable there. The same thing happpened here, if you stop and think about it. He came here in 2003 and his game was completely retooled by the coaching staff. In 2004, he got complacent and he reverted to the same careless mistakes that typified his career in AZ. In the off season, the coaching staff made him review every play from 2004 and he returned a better quarterback. I hope Dinger shows the same patience Kubiak exhibited. I know things started out great between him and McNair, but eventually McNair got tired of the criticism. If Jake goes walkabout again, like he did in 2004, he can expect Dinger to land on him like a ton of bricks.

Thanks Orange. You got what I was getting at. Perhaps I did put this a bit too harsh for some of those more sinceitive types who take everything to be about them. This place isnt AS bad as most. But that is specifically why I would think posting here is where you start. Where there are great fans. Perhaps seeing things through rose colored glasses, but somewhere and at some point fans started focus and hear more on whats wrong instead whats right.
