I think we might be surprised at who falls to us.

Senior Bowl Practice: Day Four
By: Staff

More Senior Bowl Coverage: Day One, Two, and Three.

With Senior Bowl week winding down, we take a look at the big movers during the week.

Moving up:

D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia: Was clearly the number one player during practices. He has solidified his spot as a top five pick and has the ability to be an elite tackle at the next level. Incredible agility for his size and looks like an NBA power forward. Big, over weight 360 pounders are not what NFL teams want any more at left tackle. Speed rushers, like Dwight Freeny, run circles around them. Quick, agile, strong tackles like Walter Jones are all the rage. Ferguson has that kind of ability.

Brodie Croyle, QB, Alabama: Impressed every day. Displayed accuracy, great footwork and a surprisingly strong arm. Proved he can make all the throws. He dramatically improved his stock. He's now a second round prospects, moving up from the forth or fifth round.

Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt: Established him self as a high first round pick, perhaps top ten. Wowed NFL personnel with the cannon attached to his right shoulder. Still needs to improve his footwork and consistency, but most feel this won't be a difficult fix.

Maurice Stoval: Big physical wide receiver with speed and hands. Pushed around smaller corners all week. Really opened the eyes of scouts.

Sinorice Moss: Corners had difficulty covering this speed receiver. He showed a burst off the line that very few receivers can match at any level.

Nick Mangold, C, Ohio State: Elevated himself to the number one center prospect. Dominated in 1-on-1 drills. Showed power, agility, and leadership.

Tye Hill, CB, Clemson: He was the most impressive defensive player all week. It seemed every scout and analyst was talking about him. He made one spectacular play after another; blanketed receivers during drills and practice, picked off the talented QBS, showed blazing speed, and cemented himself in the first round.

Others prospects moving up:
Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa: Best linebacker here.
Dominique Byrd, TE, USC: Big plays all week.
Tamba Hali, DE, Penn State: So quick off the edge, now the number 2 DE prospect.
Jerious Norwood, RB, Miss State: Wow, so quick. Outplayed DeAgealo Williams.
Travis Wilson, WR, Oklahoma: Best hands on the field this week.
Gabe Watson, DT, Michigan: Big, quick lineman.

Moving Down:

DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis: While he performed well during practices, the one thing scouts can't over look is the weigh-in. At only 5'8" and 207 pounds, he's now seen in a different light. Some scouts are even whispering "third down back". If he doesn't have an excellent 40 time at the combine, he could fall out of the first round.

Derek Hagan, WR, Arizona State: Entered senior bowl week as a borderline first rounder, left as a third rounder. He's dropped more passes then any WR and can't gain any separation from corners during drills. His attitude has been poor as well. After each drop he has a big smile on his face. He should be blowing kisses instead. With each drop he's kissing away a lot of cash.

Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College: Showed very poor technique and was dominated by Ferguson all week. He's dropped below Tamba Hali on many DE boards after this unimpressive performance.

Michael Robinson, QB, Penn State: Made the mistake of coming to the Senior Bowl as a quarterback. He has no chance of making an NFL roster as a QB and should have spent all his time here showing he can play other positions.

DJ Shockley, QB, Georgia: Horrible. Can't hit the broad side of a barn. Not sure why he was even invited to the Senior Bowl. Maybe it was an effort to sell tickets; hoping Bulldog fans would make the drive to Mobile to watch their "quarterback".

Other prospects moving down:
Jeremy Trueblood, OL, Boston College: Will have nightmares of Tamba Hali for the rest of his life.
Will Blackmon, CB, Boston College: Is he a WR? Is he a cornerback? Not much of either this week.
Josh Bullocks, S, Nebraska: All over the field. It looks like his twin (Daniel) is out there too.
Hank Baskett, WR, New Mexico: Very poor route runner

I've watcehd the practieces most of the days, and I'm impressed with Brodie Croyle. Great arm and accuracy, and reads the field better than anyone else there. You still have to question his durability though.

I love Tamba Hali. He's #1 on my list for guys I would like to see us take, although it's looking less likely he'll make it to #22.

Daryl Tapp is the only DE I've seen give Ferguson real problems in the pass rush. He did it when VT played Virginia earlier this year, and he's done it during the practices that I've seen this week.

Bunkley comes off the ball as fast as I've seen, but he did jump offsides on a couple of occassions. He'd be a guy that would be a steal at #22.

I'm hoping we go DL in this draft like we went CB last year. Where else can we make significant upgrades?

22. Mathias Kiwanuka
29. DeAngelo Williams

I could live with that. :yep:

Kiwi scares me. I'm kinda hoping we go elsewhere. I've seen mock drafts that have him as high as 11 or 12 and as low as 29. That is a huge swing and i think he's hurt himself so far in practice. He can still have a huge game but I think the damage is done. I really like manny lawson, he's getting to the QB frequently during practice from what I've seen.

Cutler sounds awesome...I didn't get to see any Vanderbilt games though which sucks.

Funny how different people have different takes.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDraft/Senior+Bowl/2005/notes012606.htm

Penn State DE Tamba Hali has struggled to get off blocks, and his stock dipped this week in the eyes of some evaluators. He’s neither a speed guy nor a power guy and relies heavily on his non-stop motor. However, against top competition this week, that hasn’t been enough.

One player from the South roster who has opened scouts’ eyes is New Mexico WR Hank Baskett. He’s got good size (6-2½, 220) and hands and has shown an ability to make tough catches. He proved that on Thursday afternoon by leaping up to snare a lob pass from Croyle in the corner of the endzone despite having a defender all over him.

Your right about that. I'm getting a kick out of all the mock drafts out there. We are definatley going to be surprised come draft day like always. Hopefully it will be our best draft ever.

Being from NM, I have seen Baskett play for awhile. This guy is the redeal, he is an amazing athlete and has great hands. He is not the fastest guy, but makes amazing catches both over the middle and deep, due to his size and jumping advantages. He doesn't have the stats of other big time WR because of the offense and the QB at UNM. This guy is legit though. I compare him to a Joey Porter from Oakland. He would be a steal in the 2nd.

Kiwi use to be high on my list, but after watching him he just looks like an average DE, nothing special.

I like Hali and Bunkley tho

I'm pretty sure I read Kiwanuka hurt himself during the week, and won't play in the Senior Bowl. That won't help his stock.

The combine might be his big chance.

Wow, the shakedown is kicking in. I wonder if Kiwi's agent told him to dump the Senior Bowl and go for a good showing at the combine? I have to go with PFW's ratings over football's future, though. If you know what I mean. It seems every draft that somebody starts dropping like a stone and Berman is asking everybody, "Can you explain this?" Maybe this is Kiwi's year. Brodie Coyle, eh? It would be nice to see somebody give BVP a run for his money. I doubt if he lasts to our pick in the second, but you never know.

BTW, Haven, it's great to know that a Maner is at the practices. Thanks.

Hes from the U tho :giggle:

I think he might be a pretty good KR but he seems small to ever be a solid WR. Hes from your school, whats your thoughts on him?

He isnt more than an above average college WR. Not particularly good at anything other than screens or go routes. Poor size, nowhere near the electricity, change of direction skills or hops of his older brother.

Kiper is saying he might go late Round 1, some other people are saying Round 2, I dont think he is higher than a 4th round value in my book. And he doesnt fit Denver's particular type of WR need at all.

We have some underrated prospects this year though, including CB Kelly Jennings, LB Rocky McIntosh, SS Greg Threat and CB Marcus Maxey.

I think in the end it will come out that Kiwi's knee is affecting him more then he is telling people. Something has to be wrong with him.

Rocky had a stellar showing in the East-West Shrine Game.

I saw Kelly Jennings use textbook techinique to break up a Brodie Croyle 15 yard out this week. He's one of the few guys who can say they got the best of Brodie.

Ours especially because he's not a massive LT. His technique is amazing.

Id also add Winston to the list of underrateds despite being a projected first rounder. People are sleeping on him because he was in injury recovery mode as a senior, but he's got sure fire top 5 talent. Wouldnt surprise me to see Orien Harris turn out to be a very good NFL DT, and it wouldnt surprise me if he was a perennially average NFL player either. Its high risk, high reward with him. If he is still around at 2, its a consideration to think about.

We should ofcourse stay away from Leon Williams and Sinorice Moss at all costs though.
