Bastard!
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (AP) -- A 17-year-old high school student said he was humiliated when a teacher made him sit on the floor during a midterm exam in his ethnicity class -- for wearing a Denver Broncos jersey.
The teacher, John Kelly, forced Joshua Vannoy to sit on the floor and take the test Friday -- two days before the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Broncos 34-17 in the AFC championship game. Kelly also made other students throw crumpled up paper at Vannoy, whom he called a "stinking Denver fan," Vannoy told The Associated Press on Monday.
Kelly said Vannoy, a junior at Beaver Area Senior High School, just didn't get the joke.
"If he felt uncomfortable, then that's a lesson; that's what [the class] is designed to do," Kelly told The Denver Post. "It was silly fun. I can't believe he was upset."
Vannoy was wearing a No. 7 Broncos jersey on Friday, because he is a fan of John Elway, the Broncos' retired Hall of Fame quarterback.
Vannoy said he was so unnerved he left at least 20 questions blank on the 60-question test, and just wants out of Kelly's class because he's afraid the teacher won't treat him fairly now that the story reached the media.
"I'm going to have to deal with him for two more nine weeks [school quarters] and he's going to want revenge somehow," Vannoy said Monday. "I took the test. I'm shaking. I'm furious. I didn't know what to do."
Kelly, who wore a Ben Roethlisberger jersey Friday, and his principal, Thomas Karczewski, didn't immediately return messages left on their school voice mail Monday.
Big Beaver Falls Area School District Superintendent Donna Nugent said she was aware of the situation, but said confidentiality rules prevent her from commenting specifically.
"We'll take whatever action we need to in order for the student to feel comfortable," Nugent said.

No, alittle razzing is one thing, but this is over the line. The teacher needs to grow up, grow a set, and pick battles against a worthy opponent. The kid was brave enough to wear the jersey and prepared to take the crap from other students, but not an immature, Steeler fan teacher who tells his students to throw paper at him, call him names and sit on the floor for the test. Pure BS. The kid is not a pu$$y, the teacher is.

Bullying from peers might be expected but from teachers? They need to fire him pronto. They going to show him coming up right now on ESPN.
Heh, heh. Reali just said maybe this teacher will get to feel like what is to be unemployed.

My uncle would have been waiting for this guy in the parking lot had it happened to me in grade school. At 17, I would have refused a seat on the floor and challenged the teacher to a board drill, or a Steelers trivia contest.

Yeah, my dad scared the sh*t out of our jr high school principal (kicked open his door told him he better get a handle on his school or HE was going to get handled) when I was jumped in 7th grade by numerous individuals.
At 17 I didn't have to worry about any teacher trying to organize a class hazing but I do understand that some students might have to (evidenced by this event).

Ed's hobbys back in the early 50s were boxing, weightlifting and beer. I think that teacher probably crapped himself when he realized what was about to happen.

When I was in middle school, the fire alarm went off about 10 minutes before school let out. They ushered us all out of the building and eventually told us to all go ahead and go home since it was so close to the end of the day. I asked my science teacher if I could go back inside and get my jacket out of my locker and he told me no. I tried to exaplin that I had to walk a mile and a half home and that it was chilly out and he still refused. Upon hearing this that night, my father went in to work late the next day so that he could come up to the school with me.
I didn't get to see what happened next, but years later he told me that he got nose to nose with the teacher and told him that if he ever pulled a bull**** stunt like that on me again, he would personally feed the teacher his own balls.

Pennsylvania student who wore Broncos jersey to school to get Elway recliner
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. The Pennsylvania student who was forced to sit on the floor for wearing a Denver Broncos jersey to school will soon be sitting in style.
Bassett Furniture has sent Joshua Vannoy a recliner that was designed by former Broncos quarterback John Elway.
Vannoy wore the Hall of Famer's number-seven jersey to class January 20th, two days before the Pittsburgh Steelers played the Broncos in a playoff game. His teacher forced him to take an exam sitting on the floor.
A Bassett Furniture spokeswoman says Elway heard the story and felt "no Broncos fan should have to sit on the floor." She says a "huge Broncos fan" like Vannoy will enjoy the red leather chair embossed with Elway's autograph and his number seven.
The honors student hasn't been back in school since the incident. His lawyer says the boy and school officials are meeting today to arrange his return.

When I was younger my dad made me wear one of those halloween masks in the shape of a football helmet. The team...freakin' Dallas Cowboys. He would then point and laugh at me for being a Cowboy lover. Have hated them since and never complained about it!

What also surprises me is the lack of response from the Steelers' organization ... or perhaps they are actually "proud" to be the favorite team of such a pathetic teacher, class, and school district.

It's interesting that somebody with no sensitivity for individuals outside the group is teaching a class on ethnicity. Ha!

Of course, the Great John Elway is already one step ahead.
QB Elway sends gift to student reportedly taunted for Broncos jersey (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06027/645419.stm)

BEAVER COUNTY
Joshua Vannoy expected a little ribbing when he wore a John Elway jersey to Big Beaver Area Senior High School before the AFC Championship game pitting the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Denver Broncos.
But he didn't expect a teacher and classmates to turn on him, to have to stay home from school because he fears for his safety or to make national headlines.
His parents and attorney will meet with school officials today to see if he can drop a course without failing and if it's OK for him to return to school.
The controversy has even gotten the legendary Mr. Elway involved. The former Broncos quarterback sent Joshua, 17, a gift. Joshua will be watching the next game from an Elway Home reclining massage chair, with No. 7's signature on it.

By the way, I would like to point out, Joshua Vannoy is an honors student with a 3.8 grade-point average. Just the type of kid you want to make an example out of, right?

They should send Michael Myers over there to kick that teacher's ass. He's an ex-Brown, he'll enjoy beating some Steeler fan silly.

Perhaps the "lesson of the day" was consequences for being a "non-conformist"

Being that most of the remaining students are Steelers' fans, Joshua probably has the highest GPA in his class.
