Living in the Northwest, everyone things they are a Seachickens fan now. I got a wrath of "ha ha''s today since yesterdays incident. My explanation to everyone who jawed at how bad the Broncos stunk it up yesterday goes as follows:
1. It is better to loose this game than the next one. (that would make us the only team to have lost 5 super big games).
2. We lost to the best team in the NFL yesterday. The Seachickens are good but not not as good as the Steelers.
P.S. Steelers win XL blinfolded. Damn I hate Seachickens.

i agree with that too.
We are better for not winning and going to the SB?? i dont think so......................
Besides, we would have crushed Seattle given the chance

Are you guys honestly rooting against a team that comes into our house, Indy and Cincy and wins without a bye week? A team that has a HOF RB that does nothing but kick a$$ and smile? The Seachickens are only in because they may have had the easiest schedule in the history of schedules.

btw this is as good a thread as any, I really liked watching hasselbeck, seems holmgren runs one of the truer westcoast systems still in existance. great rhythmn on the passing game seemed like hasselbeck could really stretch a team horizontally, find the weakness and deliver quickly.

If it was an either or choice, i.e. lose in the SB or lose in the AFCCG, i would definitely choose to lose in the AFCCG than the Super Bowl. I dont want that extra stigma, I dont want to sit up and think "we were that close to the winning the whole damn thing", just the feeling of losing a Super Bowl is probably 100 times worse (unlike many of you since I started following this team in late 1991 I cannot say how it feels with certainty) than what we went through yesterday.

They can only play whos on it (yeah thats an old phrase but true)
They beat a good Carolina team. That might be it, but they did it in style.

They beat a Carolina team that played most of its game on their 4th string RB.
I do agree you play the schedule you are given, but Denver could have been undefeated with their schedule. It was an absolute joke. I expect them to come out in the SB out of synch for the first half of the SB and the Steelers will capitalize.

Their OL is good (i thought ours was too tho) and should be able to handle the Pitt blitz.
If they can do that, they will be in the game all game long. Pitt O nothing to write home about, and Seattle D is better than given credit for.

Ask Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans fans whether they'd like to get to the Super Bowl at all, without regard for the result.
I'd have added the Seattle Seahawks, but they just got knocked off the short list.
Losing the Super Bowl a handful of times isn't really all that tragic, depending upon your perspective.

firswt ill take a loss in the superbowl than lose in the afc championship. It is the goal to get to the SB regardless. I would never take any of those loses away from the Broncos regardless of how bad it was. 2nd, Pitt all the way. They are not the Faiders and they are the AFC rep. I dont discount Seahawks chances though. That o line, QB and RB are studs and enough to put up points!

Sorry but i'd rather us lose in the afccg than the SB....i can't take another loss there...
doesn't matter though cuz we would've stomped the hawks

The Chargers have been to the Superbowl in '94 and lost...and one can hardly blame Houston and Jax, especially Houston...since they're so young...but your point is well taken. The Seahags fans should be told that when they pick up back to back Lombardis and add 4 more trips to the big dance they can open their yaps. Till then they need to just show a little more timidity. We haven't seen what they do with Pittsburgh yet either.

My bad on SD.
Who is the sixth team that hasn't been there? I was doing it from memory and my memory is faulty at best...

Having experienced the Broncos Superbowl losses from the 80's on, I can say with great certainty that I'd rather NOT go to the Superbowl than go to the Superbowl and lose. Losing the AFC Championship is a picnic compared to losing on the big stage. It makes me physically ill to think about those losses. I physically get sick to my stomach.

Better to lose this game than the next one ..............
Oh so true my bros n babes...so true.
The empty feeling of the loss is fading already. The only reason we had expectations for XL is because Pitt beat Indy....hooda thunkit??
Nothing I mean NOTHING went right yesterday!! funny ball bounces funny way....INT for 6 bounces off Champs shoulder into Wards hands....Funny ball with force field keeps Fergusons hands from clamping in enzone and falls into Wards hands....Pitt fumbles ball goes out of bounds....Den fumbles and pitt guy on the spot.
Steelers lost at least 2 of these AFC Championships in the last 5 years. They were meant to win. Obviously a force beyond the 13-3 Broncos pre determined this.
I am pulling for Cowher to hoist the Lombardi. I like the guy. Class act.
Go back to when he met Shanny after the 97 AFCC in Pittsburgh. He said to Mike "Get the next one". The AFC hadn't won in like 11 years.
Yeah we know what happened..."This ones for John!!" I had to be sandblasted off the cieling!!
OKAY!
THE superbowls we wanna forget:
Giants 39 Broncos 20
Redskins (hate em) 49 Broncos 10
Niners 55 Broncos 10
Broncos beat the Browns and Shottenhiemer all 3 AFC Championships...we ALL know that.....RIGHT!!!??
Who'd the Giants beat in the NFC?...the Skins?....the Niners?...I can tell ya the Niners beat the FKN Rams 33-3 cuz those flakey bastid fans conveniently forgot about their own misery when the Broncos lost 55-10. I lived amongst the Raider/Ram scum during those beatings...I gotta tell ya...no respect...tough crowd. they still aint got no team in LA....gotta love that eh.
The only other time we lost an AFC Championship was at Buffalo...good thing cuz nobody could match Rypien and the Skins that year....Buffalo go hammered.
Gotta go with Yoakam on this one. Losing the Biggun is waaaaayy worse.

No way! Those were great times in Denver. Though we lost the SB & it really sucked, redemption finally arrived in the late '90's. Still though, it was a great time to be a Denver fan even though the Broncos didn't win the big one. The three amigos, orange crush D, the duke of denver, tom jackson, rulon jones, mecklenburg, dennis smith, Atwater, hell even Gerald Wilhite, etc. Good times.

I agree. It's worse than not going to lose the Super Bowl. To lose in the AFCC can actually look good because you look like a team that is only a few moves away and is well coached. It will be hard to criticize Shanahan anymore. Some reporters will replace "playoff" with "...Super Bowl since John Elway retired" but I don't really care. We showed up, knocked off the champs. and made it as deep into the playoffs as you can get without going to the last stop. :strong:

This team exceeded my expectations and did better than they had in 7 years. Why not celebrate? I believe they will have drive and be hungrier next year knowing they were one step away. Besides Colts and Steelers will not be as strong next year.
I still hate the Seachickens.

Me too. Better to try and lose than not get the chance at all. But, I agree with Slap, Seachickens win for the NFC. I'm routing for Pitt, but I don't think Cower can outcoach two games in a row, and the seachickens have a nice oline, still I'm hoping the Bus's last game and Big Ben get them over the hump ... I mean holmgren.

Agreed, and I also think that the Seahawks will probably RUN the ball on Pittsburgh. Shaun Alexander is a TD type back that can pound the ball and beat you with speed to the outside, after following his blockers well. Holmgren is going to watch the film of our game and wonder why the hell we didn't run, cause Pitt never stopped it and we were getting good yards. That would have slowed down the rush and made PA effective. At first I thought Pitt would win hands down..Now I'm not so sure. Seattle has more than a shot in this game if they run.
We stopped Pitts run game completely. Making a team one dimensional in the super bowl is usually a recipe for victory. Our secondary didn't get it done Sunday. Seattle doesn't have great receivers, but if Pitt has to respect the run they will get open a lot.
I'm starting to think Seattle will win outright. :spit:

No offense, but I'm really glad you guys didn't make it to the Superbowl. You would have won. And as a Raider fan, that just might have killed me.
I said when the playoffs started that the Steelers, the AFC's #6 seed would wipe the floor with Seattle, the NFC's #1 seed if it came down to that. I didn't think it would. I thought Indi was a lock. But now that it has, Pittsburgh will beat Seattle in a pretty convincing fashion.
As to the OP, you always want your team to make it to the Superbowl. You can't win the 'Bowl if you don't get there. When the Raiders got spanked by the Bucs a few years back, it really did suck. However, I never wished for one second that they'd lost to Tennessee in the AFC title game. It was one more great win in a pretty great season.

I really liked watching hasselbeck
it is really fun watching the guy just because of his really good mechanics. Its interesting how he always has his knees bent and his shoulders are always parallel with the ground.

In the end, you want to go as far as you can - so you would rather lose in the SB then before it. As painful as losing in the SB is (and I think it stings more then any other playoff loss) you want to get there. You can't win it if you don't play in it.
I would say losing the first SB was not terribly painful (although I was only 12). Losing the 2nd was more painful. But, it was the 3rd and 4th that were by far the most painful. It's all about expectations. On Sunday, despite the loss, we had a really great post game party in the lots (Lot R :)). People were disappointed that we lost but I was happy to see us all put it in perspective. This season was a success. We played the AFC Championship game in Denver - you would not have predicted that at the beginnng of the year.

Gotta say that I did not like loosing on Sunday, but it would hurt even worse if we had gone to the SB and lost. I do remember the previous losses and it was tough. Do not want to feel that again.
I will root for the Seahawks, because they were part of the AFC West for so long and the Steeler fans that were around us at the game on Sunday were such jerks. Also a person that I bowl with, she just wanted to slam it in my face, so I say GO SEAHAWKS.

I posted this in a previous thread, but I will repeat it...
Look at the recent history of AFC/NFC Conf game losers. Compare their following season to the SB losers season.
Its not pretty to lose a SB, ask the Raiders and Eagles (amongst others).
