My take: I don't have a problem with Davis defending his wife if she was being harassed. This is, IMO, one of those things that is a responsibility to a man as a human being, athlete or not.

With that said, I don't have a problem with his suspension of 5 games, either. He deserves them, even if his intentions were good and he kept his cool and didn't swing on anybody.

On the other side, I think all athletes, when they are on the road, need to keep their loved ones at home. Fans have gotten bad, IMO. People think they can get liquored up and do anything they want at a game. We saw it a couple weeks ago with Portis' mom getting harassed.

Thoughts?

Same here, Stern had to lay down some discpline for this, but the guy was defending his wife.

I know how I get when someone says something even remotely mean towards my girlfriend, so I can totally understand how Antonio Davis would feel about a drunken fan taunting her all game.

Security and ushers even came down to try and get him to stop, threatening him probably of being ejected, if I'm Antonio and I see a guy heckling my wife even after numerous workers have asked him to stop, then I'd think that there is no choice but to shut the guy up myself.

5 games is acceptable because you still cannot go into the stands, but this was one hell olf a reason so that's why I am fine with it only being 5 games.

I think at the minimum they are going to slap him with an 20 game suspension. I understand Antonio Davis's viewpoint, but Antonio Davis has to understand the league's viewpoint: You can't have 7'0 muscled up black players charging a majority white audience because he "thinks" somebody did something to somebody he knows. You see my point? Ticket sales go down; less hot dogs sold; less jerseys sold; less parking sold and so forth and so forth.

The NBA doesn't want to become a joke. "Hey you want to go see the Lakers play? Nah, I don't want KOBE kicking my ass on national TV because I was staring at his girl's titties."

It has got to stop and unfortunately, Antonio Davis is going to get the brunt of it.

They already handed down the punishment, 5 games suspension starting tonight.

Gonzo, they already announced his suspension, it's 5 games.

Although I get your point of view, and I guarantee you the League has all that in mind. It's the white upper class who owns those prime seating.

I read that. Apparently, the guy was the one who first called security about Davis' wife. This could get real interesting.

I have to agree. The league cant have players going into the stands, but at the same time, you can't tell a man that he can't jump to his family's defense if he believes them to be in danger. He deserves a suspension, but not a harsh one and I think the league got it right in this case.
