My brother has a contact at a sportsbook in Vegas.... He was told that Big Ben Roth has a torn muscle in his shoulder, suffered in the game against Indy. That he had an MRI, but they have not told the general public, but have informed Vegas. Do we know if he was really hurt last week, or is this just a pipe dream?

I'm pretty sure they would be required to report that. On the other hand, if I was running the team, I would probably just lie about it and take the fine.

That hit that he took was destined to do some damage. His arm twisted similar to Drew Brees'. It contorted at an awkward angle and plenty of force was applied to the joint. I thought that it was likely that he suffer a dislocation and a tear. It would be proper gamesmanship for the Steelers to pull a Shanahan and keep Denver off balance.

If yuo really do not think that the NFL has a pipeline to try and keep things, (in the public eye at least) above board, I really believe you are as nieve as a 3 year old and Santa claus. Sorry, but, the NFL and Vegas do have a very strong pipeline of communication.

Great. Now we don't know if we should be gameplanning for Ben Roethlisberger or Tommy Maddox... Or even Charlie Batch.

We're screwed!

Yeah I would believe that if this game was of a little less importance.

I doubt it. Cowher and all would have been more tightlipped.....Denver needs to play Ben at close to full %. If they make it to the superbowl, both Delhommey and Hassleback are good throwing QB's.....the need the practice.

Unbelievable.

Ben was throwing today at practice. He looked fine. The thumb is a bigger issue than his arm.

Yeah, this kinda leaped out & knocked me around too.

Perhaps the attending physician dropped a line to his bookie in between scans.

As convoluted as this sounds, the casinos DO get the best info...somehow, some way

It does make you wonder

I'm not so sure. If they didn't that, fewer people would put money on Pittsburgh which is where Vegas will make its money this weekend (because the Steelers are going to LOSE)

Actually, I noticed they weren't talking MUCH about it, but that they did briefly discuss it the other day right after the game on the NFL Network.

Big Ben did not want to talk about it & skated past the questions. But the announcers did point out that after the injury occured, he only threw 4 times - and was 0-4.

Just my .02

Vegas makes money and minimizes risk by picking the line that perfectly splits the votes on either side. They don't give a wit about the final score, or what the spread should be.

Vegas only gets hurt if signficantly more than 1/2 of the bettors are on the winning side. For them to try and figure out the winning side and make their money that way has them playing a risk game instead of a sure bet.

Actually, If Vegas had some huge inside info like that they would make a line so that it would draw people to throw there money at the Steelers. If they new Ben was out and they increased the line a little they could draw all that pitt money and make a klilling.

And if they were foolish enough to do something like that they would kill the goose that continues to lay golden eggs for a one time gain. They are not that stupid. They know they must keep the game squeaky clean to be able to continue to make this easy money.

If they split the bets, they win no matter what. If they have ill-balanced bets then they can win or lose. Its a business on the margin and they make there money on the margin. If they started playing the game differently they would go through a bad stretch and go out of business.

Hey it changes nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Coyer is still going to tell his LBs and DBs to gun for Worthlessberger. It's not as if he's gonna tell them to take it easy on the guy. He gets sacked once every 11 dropbacks and much more so away from Home so I expect Denver to bring on the blitz early to try and get to him and bring the heat.

If we can rattle Brady with crowd noise and Lynch/Wilson popping him in the mouth then we can do it to Worthlessberger. C'mon Coyer, you know what to do!

the "injury" occured on a hit to the tricep on the back of his right arm. Solid hit, large contusion on the back of his arm. Had problems with his right hand due to hit. Noted massaging the pinky and ring finger on his right hand on sidelines. Indicative of potential shock to the nerve that runs down behind the elbow "funny bone area" down the forearm and to the outer extremities of ones hand. Can be long or short term shock. Who knows? However, it can render some significant loss of "feeling" in ones hand. As far as the bruising, I'm sure he'll find a way to get around that...dman

Well, as idiotic as they are at NFL.com, they still show Big Ben as a thumb.

I'm not concerned at all. Vegas won't shift the line, they have it too tight IMO...so we just take care of bizzness...

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger throws during a workout Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 in Pittsburgh. The Steelers meet the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, in Denver.
