I remember earlier in the season when the Broncos were supposed to be ranked higher but the writer used "professional judgment" to knock the Broncos DOWN a couple notches and then a few weeks later when the Colts were NOT #1, he used his "professional judgment" to put them there.
I emailed him and said that there was no use doing a "statistical analysis" if he was going to override it ... he didn't like that :)

Just wait, if we win the SB, every team in the league will want to prove it was a fluke - 2006 season is gonna be tough with a Lombardi hanging over our heads.

Listen to me now and believe me later. Mike Shanahan doesn't create one year wonders. If we win it all this year, we'll win it all next year.
But let's wait until next week before we explore that subject any further...

Uh, well, TJ we have 99.9% of the media out there in wonder. Who would have guessed that the Steelers would be in the game? And the Broncos were suppose to lose! Mike hasn't created a one year wonder but he hasn't exactly proven that INDY is owned either. This just doesn't help our case. I sure hope your right, I can't wait for next year, but first 'eye on the prize, eye on the prize'!

I liked this quote... when comparing the upcoming Pitt vs Den game: "two veteran receivers who run near-perfect routes and will eventually have busts in Canton"
One of the few times I've heard national media talk about Rod Smith in terms of automatic HOF credentials. It's about time...

Who was that? Me?
You must be mistaken/making things up. I had us at no worse than 10-6, but expected 11-5.

I'm intrigued by the comments in the Steelers column. States that they dropped two slots because the NFC teams won by larger margins. So, apparently, there is no adjustment for amatuer officiating.

East Coast Bias? Nah!
If there was any bias they would have Indy #1 and NE#2.
I saw this and thought it had to be from last Saturday. The Colts get knocked off Sunday despite the best throw job I have ever seen and they are still ranked#1?
And you fools are calling bias! Everyone knows that NE is still the real champions...Bristol says so...In fact, Seattle and Denver are simply part of Canada and France..they are not really NFL teams.

I guess one and done has no merit? Four teams are still alive.... and all four should be at worst ranked directly in front of the Indy Potatoheads.

I think the general consensus was around 10-6. After the strong start, I adjusted to 11-5 but to predict halfway is ludicrous so that was it.
All that matters is the game against Pitt Sunday.
BTW, have fun Taco, hopefully we can get thru the spitter.

What's wrong with your caps lock?
No, I didn't make any 9-7 predictions. I did say after the Colts game that I doubted Jake Plummer could take us to the Superbowl. I've since eaten my crow on that, albeit prematurely. He fell in line with what the coaches wanted him to do, and I wasn't sure he could do that. He's not nearly as thick skulled as I thought he was, and I now fully believe he can go all the way, provided he stays the course.

Predictions are like a-holes.
consensus was 10-6. 14-3 is rockin'. This week is the money game. We get this one the season is a sucsess...another ring is a triumph.
The door is open. I'm allready so nervous.

That's suprising...I don't see the Pats rated #2...:giggle:

What was your take on "The Plan". I seem to remember you giving Shanahan one more season and at least one playoff win before you was to call for his head

I sent him 2 emails - first explaining how lame his arguement for having SD ahead of Denver, and then for dropping Indy for going perfect. He never responded (directly).
The funny thing was his constant justifications. First, "well it all corrected itself" (well ANYBODY can figure it out week 16!) and "oh, this was just a strange aberation in quality of schedule" as opposed to - guess the system doesn't work very well.
I think it is some system that geeks think is really cool, and in the face of it not working, they come up with any twisted logic to explain it.
Having indy finish 1, and having them justifying what is obviously idiotic, only proves the point for the 3rd time. (Clearly not worth another email).

As offensive as it is to see the Colts at the top of the power rankings after they were already beaten at home, there is some gracious commentary about the Broncos in, of all places, the Steelers section.
Other than some offhand remarks by Belichick, this might be the first time I've seen anyone east of Aurora suggest that Rod Smith will be enshrined in Canton.

Now comes the matchup of equals: two defenses featuring stellar linebackers and complex blitzing schemes, two run-first offenses with running back tandems, two veteran receivers who run near-perfect routes and will eventually have busts in Canton, two speedy young second receivers who occasionally get a little jumpy, and two quarterbacks who avoid mistakes. Yes, the current version of Jake Plummer does qualify.

Number 1 seed against a tougher schedule vs Number 6. Playing at home.
2 equals?! Whatever...

I think you're wrong about that. If Denver wins, then for the next year we'll be hearing how good they were. They'll be the new bandwagon and we'll be hearling a lot about how Plummer has matured, the best passer out of the pocket, etc. They'll be the test for resurgent pats and colts and steelers teams, not to mention SD and KC. The Colts won't dominate next year the way they did this year and Denver or whoeve wins the superbowl will fill the media vacuum. I am a Steeler fan but I don't see anything about the Broncos that makes me they will do any worse next year than this year. Can't say the same for the Colts and pats.

I say we make Manrino an SB XL Lombardi trophy out of Tin foil & send it to the RCA Dome so they can display it proudly. It is the only way they are getting one this year. People can rank teams anywhere they want but as long as we win the game i don't care what anyone thinks!

Actually, the Colts were the number one seed. And Pittsburgh beat them at home, despite giving the ball away three times (once to the refs). That is why so many think Pitt has a chance to beat the number two seed at home. And the teams are very equal. This one will likely come down to which coaching staff makes the better adujustments.

How do you feel about your team being on the road for 3 weeks straight facing the toughest teams in the NFL?

Personally I think it's overrated and I think that the stats to show how it's never been done are a crock. Just a matter of them playing a better team. If the teams can muster up themselves for a championship game then they have no business being in the playoffs.

Again, for about the hundreth post by numerous people, the only thing that matters is that we are in the AFC championship game.
No matter what a writer or broadcaster of any importance says can take that away or lessen its glory from the team.
The winner of the AFC championship may or may not be praised by this same bunch of media tools - and it still doesn't matter.
The team has exceeded my expectations for their season, and it is incredibly thrilling to be back in this game, and possibly the Super Bowl. Despite what Shanny said the end of last year, I thought we were definitely more than a player or two away from being able to get to the SB.
We have a very good chance to beat the Steelers this Sunday. It's a dream come true.
The media and sports writers? I wipe my butt with their output, and it's an insult to my butt to even have to touch it.
