View Full Version : Mock's Keys to The Hunt Trophy

There are a couple things I think we have to take care of.

Starting with the offense:

We have to keep Porter from blitzing free on the outside. The nintendo offense will kill us against this blitzing team. Jake can escape an inside rush, but if Porter runs free on the outside, we are doomed.

In Rod we trust. We should trust him early and often. Lelie will be Lelie, altho I am still trying to figure out exactly what that is.

I think Putz and Alexander are very important in this game because of the 3/4. I also think this is a game that Tater Tot needs to step up. I'm a bit leery of trying to overpower this D...I think a speed back gives us a better chance.

Naturally, Jake must stay under control, manage the game and not get too reckless. A QB meltdown makes everything else moot.

Try to get a couple balls to Kyle Johnson...he was invisible last week.

On Defense:

Put Champ on Hines Ward and generally send 8 in the box. No team likes to establish the run like Pitt, and Lynch can bring it. A few blitzes off of the inside slot from DW might rattle Big Ben as well.

I think we have the beef this year to at least contain the Bus.

Overall, I think we match up pretty well on D.

In summary, this is going to be an old fashoned slugfest IMO...and if we are not physical, we will lose. Pitt is here for a reason, and it's not to hand us the Hunt Trophy. We are going to have to play a little better than last week, and play physical.

it's a little earlier than I would like as well. It's only tuesday and I'm nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. I consider the game a toss up with the only advantage the 12th man so show up. This Steeler team is better than their record. 3 of their losses came when Big Ben was down for repairs.

Detroit is right there for us. These opportunities only come around so many times. GO BRONCOS!

Actually Pitt likes to pass a lot at the start of the game to get an early lead
and then goes to the run to run out the clock toward the end of the game.
Look at how they played Indy. Passed like mad, got up on Indy early, and
then hardly passed at all in the 2nd half. Go back an check out the play by
play of some of their other games if you don't believe me, Big Ben is pass
happy at the start of the game.

Just because they broke their normal routine last week doesn't mean they will do that again this week. It's a valid point, they came out passing last week, but it was out of character.

Point taken tho. I just think we can man up with a single safety till we get their run game stopped for sure. Anytime you commit 8 in the box, your gambling.

They are a lot like us in that respect. They pass to set up the run. They like to pass when the opponents think their going to run, putting Ben in situations he can better handle.

Here is my keys:

-rattle Ben, he will fold
-take the running game out
-dont go too conservative on O, attack those DB's!!
