View Full Version : Ticket Prices are starting to worry me

I know this is an AFC championship game, I know it has been seven years since the Broncos have accomplished this, I know it is the first time they have done this in the new house but...tickets sold out so fast yesterday, and now so many are for sale second hand for 10 times or more what face value is, what kind of crowd will be occupying the stands on Sunday? I know many of us have noticed with the rising cost of regular season tickets the attitude and landscape of the crowd has changed, the 12th man really showed up last week but even those tickets were affordable compared to the ones this week. 600 no shows for the Pats game, most likely they were the 400 dollar club level seats or seats the scalpers were selling for too much and went empty. How many empties will there be this week cause of the super high price gouging? How will the wine and cheeser's who can afford it perform in their 12th man role? I know the lucky O'Maners that will be attending will do their part as always.

What worries me just a little bit is the way Steelers fans travel. With all the tickets available via brokers, scalpers, and eBay, I worry that we'll end up with a large Steeler contingent at Invesco on Sunday.

The game is sold out. If people are willing to pay those prices, and even more than face if they have to, I seriously doubt there are going to be very many no shows. 600 no shows for a game is amazing since there's regularly 1-2k not showing up.

Totally agree. I understand people are upset with ticket prices, but just because some people have money to afford great tickets, or luxury boxes, or whatever, doesn't make them any less of a fan.
This whole idea that "The people who can afford these tickets aren't real fans" is ludicrous.

Rich people don't really like football, they only attend the games to watch athletes run around and mingle with common folk.

That's the way it has always been. I paid $875 for my 7 tickets to the cowboy game.

I was one of the people this past weekend trying to sell a 400 dollar ticket.
I had one extra, it was on the 40, 4th row in club...
I just wanted to get into the game and have a good time but i was trying to get my money back.. and i ended up selling it for 100 dollars!!!
But hey, i paid for my roomate to go since he wasn't a bronco fan, so what's one more person?
By the way, roomate is now converted thanks to Invesco.. i think at times he was yelling louder than i was.

I never said that rich people aren't fans, but the buzz from almost every die hard fan that has season tickets tell me that the crowd just isn't as into it as they once were at the old stadium, and most of them beleive that it is cause of the higher prices and the way that the corporate way of things has taken over. I was there for the Patriot game and the crowd was great, I have been to games at the old stadium and the new one, the two loudest games I have seen at Invesco were the Pats playoff game and the Monday night game with the Chiefs this year. If you have the 2000 dollars go for it! And scream your head off!

875 a piece or 875 for 7, 7 seats for a thanksgiving game in Texas Stadium sounds like a bargin compared to what the championship game is going for.

anthony, my post wasn't directed at you personally, I was just agreeing with Herc. A lot of people around these parts love to play the "I'm a better fan then the people that go" card, and the arguments always end up revolving around ticket prices.

but do you know why 1000-2000 don't show? Sure some just can't make it. but with a waiting list that is years long why would 2000 people not show every game? I know tons of people that have money but have no idea how to gain accses to tickets. Because most of those tickets are being scalped, for more than their worth, not too many people are going to shell out 200 bucks to see the Jets vs. Denver from the 500 level, so the seats go unsold. I know it is great that only 600 no shows for the last game, prices were high but affordable compared to these. i guess I am more angry at the fact that alot of these seats were bought with the sole intention of cleaning out someones pocketbook.

If you are really an absolute die hard fan, you would go whatever the cost.
In KC they would be selling their tractors. In cities where sanity is still intact, I would imagine there will be some fans taking out loans to cover the tickets.

No prob, I would never say that someone is a better fan cause they attend instead of watching on a TV. I never got to attend a game until I was 18 and living on my own. That doesnt make you less of a fan.

I think what you might be seeing on ebay is season ticket holders. You put your tickets on for $2-$3K and if you get it hey..go buy a plasma. But they have every intention of not getting it and going to the game

That's true in the regular season, I don't think it is a trueisim in the playoffs. But, they are going for a lot. If I were willing to sell mine (which I'm not) I could probably come dang close to paying for my entire next season.

Ebay right now seems like the lowest winning bid will be around $250 a ticket. That'sa lot of money. Maybe singles will go for less, I've not looked at any of those.
May go down later in the week if people start to just assume it will be too much because of all the activity and then the market dries up. But - clearly people are coming out of the woodwork to buy these tickets compared to last week. Last week tickets were going for not a lot over face value. Now they are going for a ton.

Or they've just paid for a big chunk of their tickets for next season

We snagged ours for $80 per my friend. But we were fortunate to get them via Ticketmaster and not the scalping community.
Hell, I just paid $325 for two tickets to the Pats game this previous weekend in the North endzone on the first level. So I can imagine prices will be even higher in a couple days.
Good luck Jens! I hope you can make it out

I was persistent on ticketmaster.com at 4:00 yesterday and got a couple of single tickets for 93 bucks apiece. They're not the best seats but just being there will be awesome. I can't wait for Sunday!

Yes Sass... sadly, she is severely overwhelmed this morning and she wont be able to hand out any bargain tickets for less than $300-$400 per ducket. But, I still think there will be decent deals to be found once the frenzy ends today.

I agree! I think tickets will come down a little bit in price come Wed and Thursday. And, if you are willing to chance it just to be with OF1, go without tickets. I bet you'll have no problem finding tickets to the game from those that are there. It's always worth a shot if you can make it out! ^5

I bought some 'rights' to tickets last week. $157.00 per seat in section 132. YOU GUYS GOTTA THINK ABOUT THIS STUFF BEFORE IT HAPPENS! HAVE MORE FAITH IN THE BRONCOS!!! Now get in there and pay for you damn tickets and no more whining! Sell your stereo, get rid of tivo, sell a kid, do now -ask for forgiveness later, eat your dog, DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET ORANGE IN OUR HOUSE!!!
(just don't sell your wife out, nobody wants her and it's a waste of time)

I don't know when the Broncos last increased ticket prices but expect a ticket increase this year (and a big one if you actally win the Super BowL).It is supply and demand and if somebody doesn't want to pay there is somebody in line who will (most likely a wine and cheeser) The Pats went up 25 % last year alone. Good luck this year to your Broncos and your Buckeyes next year Mr APacino

I got mine for face value ($135) from the brother in law and a $238 R/T out of Portland or else I probably wouldn't be going. Of course even with the plane ticket added in, that's still cheaper than I could buy one on the "secondary market" cough scalper cough.

WTF, stubhub has some tickets listed at auction for $16,000.00 each, 2 together! Who in the world would pay that much? I about chocked at paying a grand for mine in the south stands, but if I could sell them for 10K or more, I probably would!

Thanks alot, it was good talking to you again at the tailgate, I found AK1971 right after you walked away. Hope you guys had a good trip back. Yeah another playoff run will mean another hike for the regular season holders. I know it is a capitalistic system but it really sucks that most people can't afford to take a family of four to a game even if they could find the tickets. I don't care if it is the Superbowl people should not have to take out a loan or decide if they eat or pay their bills that month to go to a ball game. I hope you don't bail the board, I will be looking forward to talking to you again.
