After a bit of a rough start, he is 18 of his last 21 - including a few big kicks.
He took a bit of a beating around here earlier in the year (Faderproof? Bueller? Anyone? ;D), so I figured some recognition was in order.
I mean, he's not Mike Vanderjagt or Adam Vinatieri or anything, but he's still pretty good - for an idiot kicker.

How many forced fumbles does he have?

Been an off year for him there, I am afraid.
I hear rumors that he is thinking about starting on a steroid program, so I have high hopes for him being a ball hawk in 2006.

That 50 yarder was pretty sweet. It's nice to have him still holding his line.

Yeah. He didnt get that foot cleanly on the ball either. That was a HUGE kick. He was all-that before Vinatieri ever came around. Elam holds the all-time record, baby!

I'm plenty happy Elam is the Bronc's kicker. I'd much rather have him than any other kicker. Some people obviously think they have to cross their fingers when he's called on, I don't. He's a pro, and props to Jake for coming in and doing a very good job holding.

Still and all.... I think he is begining to show signs of limitations on things he used to do. He has a shorter, one step delivery now, and that takes some of the distance off, and a bit of the accuracy on the 35+ kicks. I wonder if Mason Crosby is there in, say, the third, would Denver take him? Maybe the second?
I have always liked Elam. He has been money and he has been a solid citizen. Besides, anyone who pilots is okay by me. But things change over the years.......

I think the changing of holders bothered him. Sauerbrun held during the preseason and I believe the opener at Miami. Then all of sudden we see Plummer in there. He had similar troubles when they let Rouen go a few years back.

LOL both those kickers missed big kicks while ELam was perfect with a 50 under his belt.

Crosby is staying in school. Elam changed to the one step when he strained the hammy earlier this year. Announcers said he hit several 60 yarders in pregame. I would love to be a home and have Crosby next year, but kickers can kick into their 40s.

Elam can still get it done, plus after the Patriots game, he tossed his hat into the stands and my friend sitting next to me got it! That was pretty cool. 8')

Although so many seem to stick around MUCH longer than they should..

what amazed me about the 50 yarder,he hit his foot on the ground first and still made it. The commentators said he was nailing 60 yarders in practice.

Elam has been and always will be a big game kicker. I remember those kicks he made against the Jets in the '98 playoffs in a gale. Surefire HOF'er.

I would hate for the Broncos to have the kicker problems that a lot of NFL teams have had over the past 10+ years. Elam has had his ups and downs. More ups than downs. But the Broncos haven't had a kicker issue since they've had him.
I can't remember him ever missing a kick by 10-15 yards. Maybe he hooked one really bad, or the wind took one. But I've never seen him kick the ball straight to a spot 10-15 yards right of the upright.
That Vanderjack (sp) kick has to be the worst big game kick ever. A kicker can't miss that bad unless he chocked or did it on purpose. People say Norwood chocked. BS. That was a long FB that was wide by about a foot. She it happens, but his kick at least had a chance. Vanderjack's kick went straight to a spot that was nowhere near the goal post. No wind, no funny hook. It was just bad.

Good thing he overclubbed because he hit it Chunky soup. It was ugly but never the less it counted. Viniteri chunked the one he made too.

I would rather have Elam than any other kicker in the NFL, bar none. Even with Elam getting up in years, I have more confidence in him then Vinateri or Vanderjagt

When all is said and done I still feel confident having Elam kicking with the game on the line.

I would rather have a guy who was automatic from 45 than a guy like Seabss who has a great leg, but you never know what will happen. I love Crosby, but guys like Andersons (Gary and Morton) contributed well into their late 30's and early 40's.

Elam has always been one of my favorite players.
That being said, glad he's playing the way he is supposed to...finally.

Come on Fader - we need to bring back a couple of your threads from earlier this year. It was hilarious the way you went off on Elam. :)

The guy still sucks, but it's good that he's making kicks for us.
Better? ;)
