...man, I can't believe the energy. I can just feel it surging through the keyboard. The traffic numbers are out of the park. People are jacked up. This is just Monday. The city of Denver is just starting to buzz. I haven't witnessed energy like this on a Monday before a game... Denver fans are realizing how huge it is to get the Superbowl Champs invited to their own home, and they're getting ready to give them all the hell they can handle.
This is going to be huge.

The radio was crazy today people are calling in off the hook. Eveyone that came into work made some comment about it (the game) and you're seing Broncos flags on car windows already. It is probably the most excited I've seen this town about this team in a looooong time.

I am so glad the playoff scenario is turning out just like it is. Denver has to prove itself. There is no better way than tackling the team that has won 3 of last 4 Superbowls and appears to be on a rebound. No need to look beyond this one. This game will only strengthen the team confidence for the next one. I would like to see the fans so pumped up to help the team rise to the next level. The city of Denver needs to remind the national audience of that old Orange Crush excitement and craziness.
I hope Jake comes in cool as ice and not out of the character he has stuck to so far this season.

it won't matter if we manage to beat the annoited "team of god-men" or not this weekend
we will be picked to lose from here on out...even "if" we manage to beat the other messiah of the NFL the next week
but that's how I like it
Of course, if the Broncos win it'll be because Bruschi is injured or that the Patriots were too overcome by the lengthy season of numerous injuries.

I hope that Plummer heaves the ball as far as he can downfield on the first play from scrimmage to loosen up everybody's hinges...... settle the nerves.... fire up the crowd...... loosen up the running lanes.

No question that playoff games are off the chart as far as fan intensity. I was at he October game and I thought the section I was in (129)was suprisingly mellow. It seemed to be older season ticket holders. When the Pats launched their late charge the end zone sections were all standing on 3rd downs making noise while 129 was sitting. For this game I am sitting all by my lonesome in section 122 row 5 (a result of my one ticket search on ticketmaster when the tickets went on sale) my brother is in 110 row 18. I am psyched to compare Playoff fan intensity at Mile high to Gillette. Can't wait til Saturday.

The "record" is 0 no-shows for the final game at Mile High when they played the 49ers. Of course the ticket people didn't rip tickets that day, they just eye-balled them and let people through.

People to young to have experienced the first Bronco Superbowl run in the '77 season really missed something. The Broncos had never even had a winning record outside of one lowly season. They'd never even made the playoffs, and during that 1st magical playoff season we rode an emotional torrent of orange passion that had to be seen and felt to be believed. Denver turned orange overnight. People painted their houses orange, their cars, even their pets. There were orange hairdos and everyone in the whole city was juiced on an electricity you could almost physically touch. The final playoff game before the Superbowl, the AFC championship win over the hated Raiders was the most emotionally draining game I've ever experienced. Nothing ever replaces that first Cinderella season when it's new for the first time. There were no jaded, cynical people...no doubters or haters or people trying to knock the rest of us down. A guy sold his motorcyle for $5000 to buy a pair of tickets. People camped in the Mile High parking lot for 4 days sleeping in tents and cars to be first in line when tickets went on sale. Somebody auctioned a date with his wife in the RMN for tickets...crazy stuff.
It was pure joyous madness.
I'd love to see that happen again, but I don't think you can ever repeat that magic again...not in the same way. I just hope this season's run can bring back a bit of that exhileration and fervor once again. The team and the city both need this.

I feel if Denver beats NE this weekend, they'll be collecting their 3rd Lombardi in 8 years. 3 out of 4 is very impressive, but 3 out of 8 is nothing to sneeze at either. That great Niner team of the 80's won 4 out of 9.
I just have this gut feeling that this will be Plummer's best post season performance to date. I do think though that it will still be a very close game. If NE goes down, which I think they will, they'll go down swinging hard like the defending champs they are. If that does indeed happen, I still got to give them alot of props & credit for what they accomplished this year and how they just turned it all around. Very impressive. Good luck to both teams! Like McGinnest said, "The best team is going to win". Neither team will be beating themselves in this one. I see both teams leaving their best on the field, along with maybe some blood and bones as well. ;)

For me, NOTHING approached (or will ever approach) the 1st SB win. I sat up watching re-runs and VCR of the parade with tears in my eyes for weeks. Of course it did not hurt that I was there, but it would still be 1.
The 1st Ralston playoff run was number 2. 2nd SB was number 3.
This playoff game would be great. A SB win this year would become my new number 2! Make all the noise you can (I can't make the game) and let's keep our eyes on the REAL prize...

Is there any way to pass along the idea to the Broncos to show the video clip on the Jumbo Tron of Brady's press conference last week were he said "we're the most disrespected team in the league"... ?

Bellicheck will have a game plan to make Jake the snake revert to his old bone headed self and if not stop, slow down your teams running attack.

I hope that Plummer heaves the ball as far as he can downfield on the first play from scrimmage to loosen up everybody's hinges...... settle the nerves.... fire up the crowd...... loosen up the running lanes.
Where is Ricky Nattiel?

Isn't there some figure skating on ESPN99 to keep chef trolls busy through the playoffs? Is hating the Broncs all you have left (probably!).
Bitterness is SUCH an ugly thing :). By the way, if the patsies win it only makes the chefs look like a more pathetic team - unable to win a mediocre division...

The disrespect we are getting is driving me nuts
I couldn't care less about the disrespect. At the end of the day, respect and a few bucks will buy you a cup of coffee. Just remember '97-'98. We got no respect because we deserved no respect. We had lost to Jacksonville the previous year in the playoffs, and we had looked like crap down the stretch to end the season. All that turned into was eighteen straight wins and two Lombardi Trophies.

I love the boob term - 'we get no respect!'. Respect is gained by not being perfect (it's too impossible) but acheiving and practicing next to perfect and no one has done this better than NE over the past few years. Let's all quit with the 'we get no respect whining' - if anyone deserves respect, it is NE, they have been an amazing team over the past years. They just don't know it's time to pass the torch back to the Orange and Blue.

I was at the Pats game in October and yelled so loud that I was hoarse for three days.
Of the dozen people around me, there was one other guy making noise on a consistent basis. Two were making occassional cheers. At least six people just sat on their duffs, drinking their lattes and snacking on their quiche.

What you fail to mention is every team you played in the second half had a well below average passing game. Obviously with those teams you knew they would be forced to run often because their passing games were so sub par. So your herald improved run defense is a tad bloated.

What you fail to mention is every team you played in the second half had a well below average passing game. Obviously with those teams you knew they would be forced to run often because their passing games were so sub par. So your herald improved run defense is a tad bloated.
The chowders like to over look that little fact shadow.

Average is way too harsh. While Plummer has been mistake prone in the past, he has been excellent this season, and the playoff losses these last two years have hardly been Plummers fault. Plummer is a top 8 NFL QB right now, if not higher.

In new englands last 10 games of the season the faced 3 teams with passing offenses ranked in the top 15. Indianapolis (no. 3), Kansas City (no. 6), New Orleans (no. 14). Every other opponent they faced ranked outside the top 15. So how impressive does the so called "turn around" look now?

I agree, Seymour is a force. The thing that has most impressed me this year about the Broncos is the Oline. During preseason I thought that they were the biggest question mark. They have become, over sixteen weeks, the biggest strength. My hat is off to Rick Dennison who is about ten times better of a coach than I ever thought he would be, after Gibbs left. I just hope the rest of the league is ignoring him and he stays here for years. Hat's off also to Nalen, one of the best centers in the NFL, certainly up there with Saturday, and having one of the best years he's ever had. I'm not really worried about Seymour. He'll be part of the game-plan, no doubt. ;D

Psychologically speaking, the one thing the Pats have to overcome is complacency. They have three rings, three Lombardis. It's why three-peats are so tough. Do you have a compelling reason to get out there on the field and fight to your last breath for another championship? If we are to judge the Broncos psyche by Al Wilson, there's a mean and nasty hunger there. Can the Pats still stoke up the fire? I know a few players can (Brewski, Brady, etc.) But will everybody else? That hunger is tough to beat.

The Bronco's won this game. There will no excuses from me. Only Steeler fans use injuries as an excuse. The other 31 teams know that they are to expected and overcome somehow.
The Pats showed a little spunk in the 2nd half and hopefully we can lick our wounds the next 2 weeks and get some bodies back healthy.....play Buff and Indy @ home and then the schedule eases up for us. The AFC East is our for the taking if we want it so I have a feeling that maybe, just maybe the Pats will be back to the almost mile high City of Denver for a win or go home game."

I think what sonofbobkraft fails to reallize with all this high and mighty talk about how many rings his Patsies have is that when you go to other teams boards who have never won anything...like the Saints or Bills or Jags...they find that impressive and intimidating. But when you go someplace where they have also won more than one Superbowl and played in 6...especially when that team has basically OWNED you like a prison yard girlfriend for the entire length of your franchise...well we just don't feel like falling down and quaking in fear. I did a little checking on some things:
These are the QB ratings of the Pats opposition QB's in the games against them since week 9 of the regular season when they began their run followed by the number of rushing yards these teams posted against the Patriots:
Week 9 Peyton Manning/117.1, 132 yards rushing
Week 10 Gus Frerotte/83.6, 77 yards rushing
Week 11 Aaron Brooks/80.7, 87 yards rushing
Week 12 Trent Green/127.6, 112 yards rushing
Week 13 Brian Bollinger/39.8, 41 yards rushing
Week 14 JP Losman/33.3, 14 yards rushing
Week 15 Simms/72.5, 30 yards rushing
Week 16 Bollinger/67.9, 40 yards rushing
Week 17 Leftwhich/61.1, 87 yards rushing
You will notice a direct correlation between having an effective passing threat and gaining yardage on the ground. Peyton Manning posted a 117 rating and the Colts ran for 132...Trent Green had a 127 and the Chiefs managed 112...both games the Pats lost...conversely, the team's whose QB had a misserable game...Losman for example with a 33.3...those teams didn't run the ball well (14 yards for Buff)
So I decided to look at Jake's QB rating at Invesco to see what we can expect from him at home. Plummer averages 96.3 at home and 90.2 overall. To further break it down, Plummer posted a 134.4 against the Patriots last time around. Then I decided to see how Jake stacks up in situational game stats: http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1003/splits/2005
1) Suprisingly, Jake is best either when backed up on his own goal line or when inside the opponents Red Zone with a 96.8 and 87.4 QB rating respectively...both very respectable.
2) Equally suprising, Plummer is quite effective when he throws a lot of passes. Jake's QB rating throwing more than 31 passes is 84.5, 2nd only to his 110.5 in his first 10 passes of the game. In other words Jake is best early and late in the games he's played this year.
3) Plummer is best on 1st down, with a 100.8 QB rating, and not very good on 3rd down...77.3...not to suprising since all NFL QBs will probably fare better throwing on 1st down instead of 3rd.
4) Not suprisingly, Jake is best when he's ahead, with a 105.6 rating when ahead 1-8 points...and a 71.9 when behind by more than 16...more on this in a moment...
What about Brady? I decided to look at Brady's QB rating against the stronger teams he's faced. Overall Brady has a 92.3 passer rating...pretty good, but only 2 points better than Jake's. But look closer at the games he played against good and bad defenses:
TEAM/ RANK/ QB RATING
Atlanta 21st 140.4
Buffalo 28th 102.9
Carolina 3rd 69.3
Denver 15th 79.9
Indianapolis 11th 121.4
Kansas City 25th 42.5
Miami 18th 71.4
New Orleans 14th 111.6
NY Jets 12th 91.5
Oakland 27th 105.8
Pittsburgh 4th 92.7
San Diego 13th 78.1
Tampa Bay 1st 122.8
Statistics can be used to prove a lot of stuff that's deceptive when isolated from their context but in this case it's interesting that Brady's best games came against Atlanta, Indy, New Orleans, Oakland and Tampa Bay. Of this group only Tampa Bay has a legitimately tough defense. Indy is ranked higher than they should be because much of their success is due to teams being 3 TD's down and having to abandon the running game, and in this game they were so far ahead they pretty much gave the Pats the short passing game.
Conversely, Brady's poorest games mostly came against defenses that stop the run well...Carolina (4th), Kansas City (7th), Miami (17th), Denver (2nd) and San Diego (1st). To be fair, Brady did play well against Pittsburgh (3rd) and Tampa Bay (6th). None-the-less, it's undeniable that Brady has struggled somewhat with tougher defenses this year, and it's equally undeniable that the Pats have built their run to the playoffs against a collection of teams that don't have balanced offensive units, which has made it a lot easier for New England to build the "#1 rushing defense" in the NFL over the 2nd half of the season...LOL
My point is this...for all the talk about how Plummer needs the running game or he'll turn the ball over because Denver will get behind and have to throw...Jake has thrown 1 INT in 105 passes when trailing by 16 points or less this year...while Under the same circumstances Brady has thrown 6 INT's in 201 passes. In other words it's been BRADY rather than PLUMMER who has most needed his runnng game this year to avoid mistakes.
Jake doesn't have any rings or get to do TV commercials with cute chicks at the dinner table and yeah...the guy looks pretty scroungy...but at least as far as 2005 is concerned, Jake has actually been better under pressure than Brady has.
And that is why New England is going home a loser this weekend.

Jake doesn't have any rings or get to do TV commercials with cute chicks at the dinner table and yeah...the guy looks pretty scroungy...but at least as far as 2005 is concerned, Jake has actually been better under pressure than Brady has.

ok. here goes. I better get some damn props for this though!!!!!
1st paragraph. Your team has won nothing this CENTURY or MILLENIUM or DECADE or whatever for 8 years so get in the back of the bus with the rest of em.
I am not throwing out some Superbowl from the 70's like Steeler fans do. We are back to back Champs which means that the Pats are on a run. A run that has been going for 2 years straight and was continued last week with another win in the playoffs. So in essence, the Bronco's are just like all the other teams EXCEPT the Pats. You don't want to be lumped with them? Then stop our run. Beat the Champs.
Man your killing me....but here goes.
STATS: First. You left out Miami in week 17 and added Jax. Not sure if that was intentional or not....I'll assume it was because we "threw" the Miami game.
I'll concentrate on KC.....Larry Johnson would have rushed for 2,400 yards in a 16 game season....114 seems be a good job on him. But nonetheless it was a loss/
Indy finally won a game against us....so now they are 1-7. it was due to happen someday.
The rest I agree with.....but I don't put Denver in the ranks of a "passing" team. Sorry, just don't see it. maybe if you show me a game where the Bronco's won in which your rushing attack was stymied....I'll consider changing my mind....but there is no game that Jake won with his arm is there?
STATS part 2: You took a small sampling for Brady...who BTW passed for over 4,000 yards and has a career 2-1 TD to INT ratio.
Also, considering he has been king of the league for 3 years now....I think you should include those years as they are relevent because there has been NO interruption in his dominance.
He also is 7-0 in OT. 10-0 postseason. Authored a 21 game win streak which is an NFL record and has 3 rings and 2 SB MVP awards. To even attempt to diminish what he has achieved or is capeable of doing is silly.
I mean do you really think you will convince me or any other fan on this board, Bronco or pats fan that Brady only plays well against bad teams? There are no "bad" teams in the playoffs. He beat a 15-1 team and a 14-2 team last year for his SB.....throw in the team that ousted the Bronco's 2 consecutive years and those are all "good" teams.
As far as bashing Jake....all I know is that he is 1-3 in postseason. he has a reputation for throwing picks. He has a running game all year. Brady has yet to have one. Brady carried his team on his back through all the injuries. Jake was carried by Bell and Anderson.
That's all I have. You tired me out.

Being the only team to win 3 in a row has to be a strong motivation. The other teams that had a chance failed for a variety of reasons but I don't think lack of motivation was it for any of them.
I don't think complacency is an issue for the Patriots. If they get beat it's much more likely to be due to their weak DBs than any kind of mental edge their opponents have.

This shows how little you know about the Patriots. 3 of 4, two in row-- the hunger lies in making a statement about an historic place in football lore.
You don't think Seymour is hungry?
You don't think Dillon is hungry?
You don't think in-your-shirt Ellis Hobbs is hungry?
Ben Watson? (You guys mark my words, he will be HUGE in this game)
Troy Brown?
David Givens?
Deion Branch? (the most underrated wideout in the game)
and all the rest...
Trust me. Complacency simply doesn't exist in the New England locker room.

You could say but you'd be alone. Just face the fact that for the last 7 or so games you played subpar teams. If you were in the AFC west you would be at home watching the playoffs. Having said all that I do think that we are in for a dog fight but we have a clear cut non disputable advantage......we are at home.

I've only been back in town 1 day since the SD game but I'd have to agree. I heard about some rally on Friday but that's about it. People aren't painting their houses orange just yet. One thing is for sure I know the crowd will be ready come Saturday but I think the locals are a little gun shy with the one and done performance of the last couple years.
Someone mentioned the Rock. We don't need the rock. We need some old alumni to hit the field before the game to get the place going. That would be much more effective IMO.

So by looking at stats from this year only you reach the conclusion that Brady is completely dependant on a strong running game while Jake is a stud. It's a good thing that Brady had all time great Antowain Smith as his feature back for his first 2 Super Bowl seasons. ;D
Is it valid to completely ignore that track record from their careers prior to this year?

I've been embarrassed by all the cock sucking going on.
The only thing I can agree with is the Pats are the champs until someone knocks them off. And to be honest, Pats fans are cocky because, well, the way they have been playing looks very, very familiar.
When they spanked Tampa at home it was definitely a statement game.
Defense wins this game. And the Pats front 7 right now is playing with a ferocity that completely disrupts what the other team is trying to do.
By the way, before you guys start talking about "Who have the Pats played recently?" to prove points, take a look at the Orange schedule since the bye week. Not exactly a huge challenge there.

I know you find this hard to believe but after living in SF, Oakland, Denver and now Dallas...14 Superbowl championships and 22 conference championships...the fact that your Pats have ONE more than the Broncs do really doesn't impress me that much. Beating New England is something we’ve been doing for about 40 years now…so while you may think that the rest of the league is anxious to prostrate themselves in your presence…to us you’re still just the Patsies…LOL…and we enjoy kicking your a** every time we get the chance…

Well that's what your wife said too...but more to the point...how stupid is it that you ramble on about Brady's PAST career as being relevant to this game but any mention of the fact that Plummer played in AZ or without a decent defense IN THE PAST is immediately dismissed as irrelevant. I know you fancy yourself a "professional troll"...but trust me pal...I've seen much better. Nobody said Brady wasn't a good QB...so you can stop reciting his long list of accomplishments like you're educating the great unwashed about something we're unaware of. You missed the whole point of the post, which had to do with the fact that I keep hearing Patsie fans as well as others talking about Plummer needing his running game or he'll be shut down and we'll have to pass...thus we lose. Unfortunately for you the facts haven’t supported that anymore. Congratulations on a nice attempt to deflect the conversation elsewhere. The FACT is that as great as Brady's been...THIS YEAR...which is where we are NOW...Brady's struggled against some good defenses and you made your playoff run mostly against teams that had trouble stopping the run. At the same time…the New England defense hasn’t faced much outside of KC and Indy…both losses…so once again NOBODY CARES that you went 7-1 against Indy before now or that Larry Johnson would normally rush for 4000 yards in a single season while leaping tall buildings in a single bound…YOU LOST to them. The point is that your defense hasn’t faced or beaten a running game like ours down the stretch, and when you did face us you got punked by us on the ground. Yeah…we know you played your 2nd string defense and didn’t try anyway…etc…etc…etc…but we almost ALWAYS beat you…cripes we nearly beat you with some has-been QB I can’t even remember. You talk about dominating Indy for the last several years…we’ve dominated the Patsies for DECADES….the first game we ever played was against the old Boston Patriots…LOL…we won that one too! Even Patsie fans know this…which is why on Patsie Planet or whatever it’s called they’re moaning about how much they hate us for it…HA!
Deep down you know you fear Denver…you may not admit it…but you know it. Just like you’ve had Manning’s number…we’ve had yours. And the fact you have one extra Lombardi hasn’t changed that.
You’re still the Patsies to us.

Defense wins this game. And the Pats front 7 right now is playing with a ferocity that completely disrupts what the other team is trying to do.
I cannot think of a team that shut down the Broncos running game this year. Jake Plummer isn't Eli Manning. He actually has been around 9 years. He might have a pass or two in him to open up the running lanes. The Broncos are 8-0 in Mile High this year. The first game we lose is a home playoff game?
This is going to be lights out football. It should be fun.

That is not what I said. I have no problem looking at Brady's past career...as long as YOU look at the circumstances surrounding Jakes...which most of you don't. You act as if it didn't matter than he played in AZ or the two playoff losses to the Colts were accompanied by the defense giving up 100 points. What's good for the goose is good for the gander...and you don't get to trump Brady for his past accomplishments without acknowledging that things haven't gone quite a smooth this year. He's NEEDED Corey Dillon to be there because Brady's struggled some without him...as evidenced by your record slipping a bit.

Denver's running game has been superb for a number of years, no matter who they hand the ball to. Very impressive.
If the Pats can stuff it early and make Jake need to win the game for you, you'll be in trouble.

Does anybody have a clue why he goes out of this way to say stupid crap about the Broncos?

His short comings as an NFL QB are being replaced with his drival as an NFL analyst.

My friend Joe, who knows everything (just ask him) said the Broncos will loose this game.
He also picked the Cowboys to make it to the superbowl earlier this year, and has been unemployed for going on 3 years.

3 years without a job and he's not homeless? Wow! That whole growing up thing kind of slipped right through his fingers. I bet if you unplug his XBox and open a window he'll scream the natural light burns his eyes.

It seemed to me that this year Brady carried the team without much help from the rest of the offense or defense but it seems impossible to convince opposing fans that he's more than a "system" QB.
I'm not thinking much about Jake in AZ. I'm thinking more about him last year when he threw 20 INTs. In a lot of ways he reminds me of a lesser version of Favre. He has the "gunslinger" style which when it works looks great and when it fails looks really bad. It always seemed to me that "bad Jake" showed up a little more often than "good Jake".

Does it now? My guess is yes. BTW, I don't believe Brady is a system QB.
