Due to no fault of my own, I suddenly find myself unemployed. Anyone have any advice on job searches? For the record, I have 2+ years of music promotions experience (including 8 months as a manager) and 1+ year of studio engineering experience.

Monster.com? Jobbing.com? Anyone have any recommendations?

I've been checking Clear Channel. Right now I have three different job searches going.

1.) Ideal job anywhere
2.) Ideal job here
3.) Any job here

Sadly, I think I'll have to rely on #3 for a while, but hey, that's ok.

That's what I've been doing so far. Problem is that this case isn't completely settled legally. Once it is, I can go more in-depth on what is going on (because trust me, this case is a doozie). I'm stuck in limbo right now though because I can't completely leave the old thing behind and move on.

This unemployment thing is hell.

My agency is hiring like crazy. U.S. Border Patrol. ;D

If you're under 37, min. HS grad (college is even better) with a clean record, physicaly fit and have the ability to learn a foreign language (Spanish in particular), the pay and bennies with the Federal Gov. are good. Prior military and/or police background is also very good.

After certification via tests and boards, all agents go through a five and a half month academy. After the academy, the new agent is assigned somewhere on the southwest border of the U.S. (of course, unlike when I joined, the agents now have a choice of state for their initial assignment), meaning California, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas. Some places are excellent (Tucson, Yuma, Sonoita, San Angelo, Las Cruces, Port Isabel), some are great to live in albiet expensive (San Diego), while other locales are pure holes (Ajo, Rio Grande City, Precidio, or Douglass).

Couple may have tried before

Officers await autopsy results following suicides

By Vanessa Miller, Camera Staff Writer
January 9, 2006

The Boulder County husband and wife, who police say committed suicide together Saturday evening, probably tried to kill themselves earlier in the week, police said Sunday.

Boulder County sheriff's officers found the two bodies just before 5 p.m. Saturday outside a home at 154 Betasso Road, about six miles west of Boulder off Sugarloaf Road. A friend, who was staying with the couple in their home, called police when he returned from running errands to find a suicide note inside the house and the bodies outside, Sgt. Rick Brough said.

The two died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head, Brough said. When officers found them, they were sitting together near the weapons, which each appeared to have been fired once. Officers don't suspect foul play based on their investigation and the suicide note.

"They both wrote on the same piece of paper," Brough said. "They addressed some personal matters that were coming up."

Officers believe the pair tried to commit suicide Wednesday by overdosing on pills, Brough said. Some of the couple's acquaintances found them after they'd taken the pills and stayed with them to make sure they were all right. The couple didn't receive medical attention at the time, and police weren't called.

The man was 54 and the woman was 49, the Sheriff's Office said. The Boulder County Coroner's Office wouldn't confirm the couple's names Sunday pending notification of family members.

Patricia J. Birosik owns the Betasso home, according to property records from the Boulder County Assessor's Office. Public records show she married Paul James Stewart Scott, who was arrested in a child sex sting in Colorado Springs last March.

Detectives said he tried to arrange to have sex with two teenage girls over the Internet. According to an article in The (Colorado Springs) Gazette, Scott was arrested by an undercover police detective at the location he had planned to meet the girls.

Colorado Springs police reported that Scott said he wanted the girls to kill him after they had sex, the newspaper article said. In messages sent over the Internet, officers said Scott detailed his intentions to die and how "he wanted to be disposed of," according to the article.

Scott was being held at the El Paso County Jail on suspicion of two counts of soliciting a child for prostitution, attempted sex assault on a child and enticement of a child. But he posted a $100,000 bond Aug. 3.

Birosik is listed as a defendant in a criminal public nuisance case filed in May in El Paso County. The couple's next court date was set for Feb. 1, according to court records.

Boulder County sheriff's officers have finished their investigation at the scene and are continuing to interview some of the couple's acquaintances. Sheriff Joe Pelle said his office is awaiting autopsy results.

Parrot inherits estate

Couple who committed suicide created trust for pet bird

By Vanessa Miller, Camera Staff Writer
January 10, 2006

The Boulder County couple who committed suicide outside their mountain home Saturday — two days before the husband was to be sentenced in a child sex sting — left their estate to their parrot, Colorado Springs police said Monday.

Boulder County sheriff's officials found the bodies of the couple outside their 154 Betasso Road residence just before 5 p.m. Saturday. Paul James Stewart Scott, 54, and Patricia J. Birosik, 49, were dead at the scene from self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head, said officers, who did not identify the couple by their names.

Investigators found a suicide note inside the home addressing "some personal matters that were coming up," Sgt. Rick Brough said. Two guns were discovered near the bodies. Each appeared to have been fired once, officers said.

Birosik owned the home and was married to Scott, according to public records with the county. Scott pleaded guilty to child prostitution in a Colorado Springs court in October, said Lisa Kirkman, El Paso County chief deputy district attorney.

Scott was going to be sentenced Monday for trying to arrange sex — and his own murder — over the Internet with two teenage girls last March. Undercover detectives in Colorado Springs arrested him after he offered more than $13,000 for the girls to have sex with him and suffocate him afterward, police said.

Scott specified in the agreement that he wanted police to find his body so his wife could collect on his life insurance policy, officers said.

Prosecutors planned to ask for the maximum 24-year prison sentence, said Colorado Springs police Det. Clay Blackwell.

"And as soon as he would have finished serving the sentence, he would have been deported," Blackwell said.

Scott was born in the United Kingdom, court records show.

"We've talked to immigration," Blackwell said. "They had every intention of deporting him."

Before committing suicide, the couple set up a trust for their parrot that allowed them to leave their estate to the bird, Blackwell said.

Birosik told detectives who were executing a search warrant at the home last spring that she intended the couple's 4,458-square-foot Boulder County estate — worth more than $500,000 — to become a bird sanctuary.

"They did this to take care of their parrot beyond them being here," Blackwell said.

The couple ran a record promotion company, Musik International, out of their home, according to former employee Robert Newman. The Denver man said he worked with the couple from 1997 to 2004, and said he was saddened by the news of their deaths.

"It's kind of shocking," said Newman, 40. "But I couldn't have seen any other ending after what happened in the spring."

Newman said he was working at the couple's Boulder home in March when police knocked on the door with a search warrant.

"No one expected that from Paul," Newman said, adding that police confiscated all the home's computers that day. "He was a really quiet and nice guy."

While working with the couple, Newman said he noticed the couple's special relationship with their parrot, Greeny. They would use "baby" voices with the green bird, which would talk a lot and repeat Scott's first name, "Paul," Newman said.

"They treated it like it was their child," he said. "They thought the bird could hold conversations with them."

Newman said he thought the house would make a beautiful bird sanctuary but added that he hopes the couple left something to their current employees.

Howard Bernstein, a Boulder-based attorney, said the couple legally can leave their estate to the parrot if they've set up a trust.

"If not, I would have some concerns," Bernstein said.

Boulder County sheriff's officers said they don't suspect foul play in the couple's deaths, based on their investigation and the suicide note. Scott and Birosik probably attempted suicide earlier last week by overdosing on pills, officials said.

The Boulder County Coroner's Office wouldn't confirm the couple's names Monday, pending notification of family.

WOWSERS

Sorry to hear about that turn of events man. Hope everything ends up well for you.

I know this isn't in your field, but I'd check out driving jobs in the area. They usually pay pretty well, and a LOT of companies are hiring - no CDL required. Places like DHL, or lumber yards, usually start off around 15 an hour if you've got experience....tons of driving jobs though.

EDIT: Aggregate is desperate right now, they might train you for a CDL and you can pull in about a grand a week. They're working on the whole T-REX project, so there's 10 months of job security

You might also check out denver.craigslist.org they've got a big job listings section for the Denver area.

OR you can be my manager and we can get a band started. I'm seriously going to be the next up and coming star, so if by then you're still looking, you're more than welcome to manage me :)

OK, yet another update. I have "very good odds" (president of company's words, not mine) at landing a job in Denver, but the position is not announced officially until April. Soooooo, with that, I give you.....

FiredByParrot.com: A Story of Pedophilia, Murder for Hire, Suicide and a Trust Fund Parrot

Boulder, Colorado (FiredByParrot.com) March 6, 2006 – What happens when a trust fun parrot takes over a music promotions company? FiredByParrot.com is here to answer that very question. FiredByParrot.com will tell you the incredible story involving a music promotions company that existed for years only to be terminated suddenly as the company fell into the wings of a trust fund parrot after the owners of the company committed suicide that was related to a child sex sting.

FiredByParrot.com is James Lucas' story of his two-plus years of work for a company in Boulder, Colorado. In that time, he worked his way up from an entry level position at the company to eventually a manager position. However, there were obstacles along the way leading up to January 9, 2006 when Lucas and his co-workers found out that suddenly without warning, they were without a job because the owners committed suicide and left control of the company to their parrot.

The downward spiral started in March of 2005 when his boss' husband was arrested in Colorado Springs for trying to set up an arrangement over the internet in which he would have sex with an 8-year-old girl while a 12-year-old smothered him to death. After months in treatment, he was released on bond and on January 7, 2006 both he and his wife (the owner of the company) committed suicide in the woods outside their home/office.

FiredByParrot.com goes step-by-step on what Lucas experienced in his time at this job, eventually leading up to the day when he found out that he was without a job, unable to file for unemployment or any other benefits and not eligible for any severance packages.

For additional info on this story, you can contact James Lucas or visit www.FiredByParrot.com.

About James Lucas:

James Lucas is a 23-year-old graduate of the University of Colorado – Boulder School of Music. He had worked for this company for over two years before this incident.
