What a pair of AFC games next weekend, unbelievable. And ofcourse, no matter which 2 teams advance, it'll call for a great Super Bowl matchup, then we'll have that lame game they always play 2 weeks later, whatever it is. All I know is that the league keeps track of them and this will be the 40th one.
I mean as a fan of the sport itself, how can you not love watching Indy, Pitt & NE (all 3 teams being powerhouses) slugging it out for the right to represent? And now the Broncos are back. Winners of 2 consecutive SBs just 7 years ago with the same coach. Ready to tangle with the "big 3".
I think Denver can win this game. They'll have to play their best football yet to do so though, and not make mistakes. But I can't say that only the Broncos can beat the Broncos. Because NE is still a factor regardless of how well Denver plays. That's why I really love this matchup. I think it will be an immensely physical game. Denver has a real shot at showing the league they are back and are for real by beating the Champs.
I am sure many Denver fans look at NE as an overrated team right now because their competition was relatively light during this run they are on. But don't chalk this up as a win just yet.
As bad as the AFC East was this year, it's still one of the most physically toughest divisions in the league. Even still, NE handled the lesser competition the way a championship team should. We've as fans have come acustom to seeing NE get this swagger about them late in the season, where no matter how their roster falls in place, they start to click and start to hit. It amazes me every season how the Patriots lead the league in total injuries, yet somehow end up being physically dominating over their opponents when December comes along. I'd have to say the 2nd best dynasty after the Steelers of the 70's. But if NE wins again, 3peating and winning 4 out of 5 ... well, I think I'd have to put them at the best of all time.
Denver looks like they could very well be for real and always play hard physicall football, and NE's secondary is still just a bit suspect. We'll know for sure after Saturday night, but that rookie kid Hobbs sure does look to be the real deal for them at corner. They just may have found their permanent replacement for Ty Law.
But it's hard to see them pulling the 3peat out and think the run probably ends in Denver. If not, and Pitt manages to beat Indy, NE will be back in the SB 3peating and noone from my conference will stop it from happening. The sad truth.
Denver 24 - NE 20
