Kessel and Malkin tied for the points lead in the WJC at 8, although Kessel has yet to score a goal which is kind of disappointing.

As of right now they don't have it listed, but they didn't list the USA/Czech Republic game until sometime earlier this afternoon. When they did they put an * next to it and *game added at the bottom of the screen.

I'll check on it again tomorrow morning before I go to work.

Thanks, CO. :)

Incidentally, I was reading that everyone's favorite GM Brian Burke was saying that he would not draft Kessel no. 1 because he is too selfish a player and doesnt pass enough. Burke said he thinks Johnson or Toews would be better at no. 1.

Ive heard Kessel is a goal-scorer first but im not sure id buy into Burke's talk given that before tonight all of Phil's points were assists and that according to Herc a significant minority of NHL GMs actually liked Kessel better than Crosby.

That's allright, Burke won't have a chance to draft Kessel anyway so he won't get to make that decision. Burke loves the sound of his own voice, so nothing that comes out of his piehole really surprises me.

If I'm sitting at #1 overall, I grab Kessel and run. There was another player who was recently drafted #1 who was knocked for being selfish with no two-way game to speak of. That kids name was Ilya Kovalchuck, last I checked he turned out to be pretty decent.

Who the **** was talking about the whole country? The World Juniors are being held in Vancouver, the same place that gave Bertuzzi a standing ovation upon his return to the lineup from the Steve Moore incident. Try to keep up.

The crowd in Vancouver is not solely made up of Canuck fans. I know many different groups from all over the Country that have tix for the games. I agree that Bertuzzi shouldn't be even allowed to play. Hell, I even know the guy..sort of...I met him a few times and I know his dad and uncle as they are members of the same Italian Club in Sudbury that our family belong to.

These 11 PM EST start times stink!

Unfortunately, I think the Yanks will go down tonight to the Russians. I hate to say it, but the US team is a bit overrated. I think it will be a Russia/ Canada final.

Even if the US beats Russia, four games in six nights is tough. Most of these guys are college players and they are only used to playing two games a week.

At least for Avs fans, Fritsche has played well.

Well this is the same guy that passed over Jack Johnson. Not that Ryan wont become a good player, but give me the franchise defenseman over the franchise forward anyday.

I am not talking about gold for Canada at all. Going into this tournament they were serious underdogs to even medal at this tourney. This is a very young team and by all accounts not the best squad they could have sent. It should be tough if we do meet the US again and I expect a dogfight till the end. You've got to take care of those Russians first. They are tough....did you see them pound the Czech's the other night? I think the score was 7-2.

VANCOUVER (CP) - Canada is one win away from defending its world junior hockey championship after a 4-0 semifinal win over Finland on Tuesday.

Medicine Hat Tigers defenceman Kris Russell, Blake Comeau of the Kelowna Rockets, the University of Michigan's Andrew Cogliano and Kris Letang of the Val-d'Or Foreurs scored for a Canadian team that dominated on defence in front of a not-quite-capacity GM Place.

Justin Pogge of the Calgary Hitmen earned the shutout, and defenceman Marc Staal was named Canada's player of the game.

Canada will meet the winner of the late Tuesday semifinal between Russia and the United States in the Thursday final (TSN, 7 p.m. ET). Finland will play for bronze Thursday against the loser of that game (TSN, 3 p.m. ET).

It will mark the fifth straight year Canada has played in the world junior final. The last time Canada won back-to-back world junior titles was in 1996 and 1997 when the country capped off a run of five straight.

Canada was the more rested team Tuesday because it had a bye to the semifinal, while Finland had less than 20 hours to recover from a 1-0 overtime win over Sweden on Monday when goaltender Tuuka Rask, a Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick, made 53 saves.

Canada outshot Finland 43-19.

Late goals in both the first and second periods gave it momentum to take into the third.

The Canadians gradually wore down the tiring Finns by pressuring them above their own blue-line and throwing hard checks, including a couple of thunderbolts by defenceman Luc Bourdon, a Canucks draft pick, to the delight of the Vancouver crowd.

Michael Blunden steamrolled Erkka Leppanen behind the Finns' net early in the first period and Leppanen got up slowly after he was decked by Ryan O'Marra in the third period. O'Marra also hammered Tommi Leinonen midway through the third.

Finland took penalties out of fatigue, but Canada had trouble converting its man-up chances and went scoreless on seven in the first 40 minutes before Letang's power-play goal in the third.

Canadian penalty killers looked after the other side of the ledger and Finland didn't score on seven opportunities.

Cogliano, a speedster who has struggled scoring in this tourament, ended his drought by streaking down the wing and beating Rask over his shoulder with a high shot at 13:32 of the third to cap the scoring. Pogge assisted on that goal and had GM Place chanting his name.

Dustin Boyd had provided some traffic for Letang's shot from the blue-line that beat Rask glove-side at 9:40 of the third.

Comeau, a New York Islanders draft pick, grabbed his own rebound on a Staal shot from the blue-line and waited for Rask to commit low before putting the puck around his outstretched pad at 18:58 of the second.

Canada kept the Finns to the outside in their own zone, but Pogge was on the spot, however, when Ryan Parent turned the puck over in front of him midway through the second period, and Petteri Wirtanen got a quick shot away.

The Canadians needed to take advantage of Finland's short recovery and get on them early, but it wasn't until 18:16 of the first period that Russell, a Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick, broke the tension with the crucial first goal.

Benoit Pouliot found Boyd on the opposite boards and Boyd drove in on Rask's right, while Blunden cruised up the left. Russell, trailing the play, moved all alone into the slot and made good on Canada's first unchallenged shot of the period.

Canada went undefeated at 4-0-0 during the preliminary round and earned the bye to the semifinal by finishing first in Group A. Canada had opened the preliminary round with a 5-1 win over Finland on Dec. 26.

Finland finished third in in Group A with a 2-2 record.

CP Player of Game: Justin Pogge. 19 saves for the shutout. Big save in the second period. Had an assist and made a lot of smart stretch passes up the ice.

I take it you are up in canada? the coverage here in the states stinks center ice did televise the game last night but thats all we get down here without spending some serious coin on a satelite dish or something. It is really a shame the US networks don't take a great tournement like this and not let people see it (and they want to promote hockey meaning the NHL) but really don't help people see it without a charge attached to it.

I was pretty embarassed watching the game. A lot of anti-American sentiment. The game was decent in the first period. If it not were for the goalie it would have easily been 8-1. What a disgrace to here the Russian cheers.:nono:

Hate to see I was right about the US/Russia game. The Americans ran out of gas. Not much chemistry on this team. The tie agaisnt the Swiss cost the Yanks any chance at the gold.

Man are the Russians good. I'm assuming Pogge will start for the Canadians? He's going to have to be the first star for Canada to win. I'm looking forward to watching this game.

The Blues have a player in Oshie. I thought he was the best player for Team USA. I think Fritsche, while in limited ice time, played a solid two-way game. Schremp and Ryan were disappointments.

Regarding the anti-American sentiment, I'm not surprised. The relationship between Canada and the US isn't the best great right now. I hear it all the time when I visit my family in Quebec. However, is it appropriate to express those feelings on a bunch of teenagers? It certainly isn't the right forum imo, but alcohol does strange things to people.

Congrats to the Canadians. What a dominating effort against Team Russia tonight. I know I was surprised that Wolski was left off the team, but they have won back to back U-20 tourneys, can't question their selections.

As for Team USA, there is a lot to question. No chemsitry, no consistent effort from the top players. The top players for this team didn't show up on a consistent basis. Oshie was the best forward for the Americans and both E. Johnson and J. Johnson played well. Guys like Paukovich and Fritsche played well in limited roles.

I'd like to see USA Hockey modify their selection process. How a guy like Yandle was left off this team baffles me. There still seems to be a bias against CHL players.

I could not believe Jori that the US did not do better in this tournament. But as you said Chemistry is everything in a tournament that is as short as this. I believe the US had 5 first round draft picks on this team. As for team Canada...I am excited. Not only because of the gold but this team is YOUNG. Sutter did a fantastic job with this squad. I am also jacked that Pogge is a Maple Leaf draft pick.

Pogge was excellent tonight and the Leafs have Rask who also represented himself well in this tournament.
