glazers not that bad of a writer he does some good stuff

I conducted a poll several years ago in which I asked 30 of the NFL's 32 coaches to give me their three best coaches in the league in order. It was the year after Belichick won his first Super Bowl. When the votes were tallied, Shanahan absolutely crushed the competition. Now, I see why.

interesting^

i like his writing as well.

But i hate watching him talk on shows and what not. He just has that loud voice that i hate.

Shanny is a candidate for coach of the year, he deserves all the cred he gets.

shanny deserves this after being just ridiculed for his picks and free agent signins. and the only one that didn't work out was clarett. the browns are a huge reason that our D is now one of the top TO Ds in the NFL, as are Foxxy and D-Will. Kudos to Shanny

I keep seeing people look at all our moves as a WHOLE. But if you take each sgning individually you would have noticed (as we did) that they were brilliant. Each were high Reward, low risk moves. Thank you Shanny for the moves, brilliant!

Mastermind title still fits.

I don't see how anyone could pick someone other than Smith.

1. Lovie Smith, Bears: Smith has done a simply marvelous job without a single, solid, proven quarterback. Heck, making the playoffs alone might have been enough to garner some votes for coach of the year, but a first-round bye?

If before the season someone said that the equation of Rex Grossman plus Chad Hutchinson plus Kyle Orton plus Rex Grossman would equal a division title and first-round bye, that mathematician would have been committed.

I agree. The Bears have stunk it up for years. The Broncos, for the most part, have been competitive (until meeting the Colts in the playoffs - this year will be different).

So RMT, why the late post resurgence?? More time? You have been a member since 2002 it looks like.

Yeah, the past 2+ years I was working on my Master's Degree. This spring I start on my next degree (an Ed.S.) ... I enjoy posting but rarely have the time. I've had a week plus of vacation, so I thought I better start catching up :)

Marvin Lewis deserves some credit as well. He's taken a team that was for decades the laughing stock of the NFL and turned them into a young, up and coming team. Not sure you can say he's coach of the year material this year, but he's one of the top 5 coaches in the game right now (IMO). The Lions and Niners have to be scratching their heads, trying to figure out why! Love it!

I know that the 6 coaches article has been shown on a thread already but I just want to give my man Shanahan a little love for a minute.

First of all here is the link againhttp://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5204682

Now let me ask you....where does Shanny rank among coaches right now. Is he the best?

Before you jump on the bilichek bandwagon consider this......since Shanahan has started coaching the Broncos in 1995...the Broncos are number 1 in the NFL in rushing...number 1 points scored...number 1 in total offense and number 1 in winning percentage......

plus the Broncos have 7 playoff appearances...and 2 superbowls in less than 10 seasons....

No matter how you slice it...that's ridiculous....

So where do you think he ranks among other 31 coaches.....

and how about coach of the year?......how many big names do we have?...Bailey?...maybe Wilson?....no big names on offense....yet here we are...12-3 in the toughest division in football with the number 2 seed...

how does he do it?.........isn't this deserving of coach of the year?

Yeah he deserves it. But we have been solid ALL year long. It has gone unnoticed.

He is kinda killed by his own mantra, people expect greatness out of Mike, but a guy like Lovie who is expected to win it, this might be the Bears only winning season for another 5 years, so thus he ill prob win.

They've been the team that no one really wanted to believe in, especially with Jake Plummer at QB, but all they've done is roll through the competition. When he first pulled all his roster moves in the preseason, I honestly believed he was trying to get himself fired. I mean, Maurice Clarett with a third-round pick, Gerard Warren, Ebenezer Ekuban, Ron Dayne — you've got to be kidding. The roster looked like personnel for the island of misfit toys. Instead, Shanahan has fit them together perfectly as Denver now has as good a shot as any to make it to the dance of all dances

Belichick would top most lists, but Shanny is right there. I kind of think of those 1-A guys that do it all - drafting, coaching, teaching, in-game management, halftime adjustments, gameplanning, etc.

The Martz, Herm Edwards, Tice, Norv Turner guys are WAY down the list even though they do have things they're top-notch at.

Watching Mike Martz coach a football game can be almost surreal at times. I've seen him use his second challenge in the second quarter on a play that would gain him eight yards in his own end of the field.

People forget that Belichick blew it in Cleveland. Granted, Shanahan didn't last long with the Raiders, but he didn't get much of a chance either.

Shanahan wears more hats than Belichick does, too, so to compare the two isn't really "apples to apples." ... Plus, I think the Broncos win over the Packers paved the way for the AFC in subsequent Super Bowls. The NFC had won like, 13 straight. The Broncos had a huge obstacle and NFC mystique to overcome.

Really? I was thinking the same about Marvin Lewis taking that sorry ass Bengal bunch and getting them a division title and a playoff berth for the first time in a very very long time.

It's the same topic in two different threads. Just ask the question in the thread that already exists. this will promote people reading the threads and the posts in them....as opposed to just starting threads and not getting any discussion. Plus a one stop shop for archival purposes.

On 4th down that would still leave him two yards short!!!

I'm hearing rumors of Martz and Oakland being a fit!!!

That would be cool. He's easy to hate already. No adjustment period there.

He can bring pride and disicipline to that locker room. Good choice.

I don't know that "discpline" and "Raiders" belong in the same sentence. That's almost an oxymoron.

Lewis has done a great job too but has a little more to work with (Palmer, Johnson and their great WRs).

Marvin Lewis has been amazing.

The Bengals have been the laughing stock of the NFL for over a Decade. While his offense isn't as dominant as the Bears defense he has both sides of the ball playing good.

That defense still has weaknesses (rush defense, relying on turnovers) but it's good enough to win a playoff game, possibly more.

His greatest accomplishment may have been to somehow convince the Owner to finally spend some money...

Lewis turned a perennial bottom dweller to a playoff team and a dangerous one at that, in two years.

That is quite remarkable.

It is akin to Dennis Green turning Arizona into a playoff contender (though he hasn't, it would be on the same level if he had).
