East Coast media darling ... looks like they're having fun ... I'm glad the Broncos are having fun winning. It seems to be a silly distraction to me. The Portis stuff is old.

I thought you were serious at first and was going to become a mushroom cloud layin muthafugga, muthafugga! I agree that we got the better end of the deal, but I personally think CP is a gas! In his "cribs" episode, he showed them a stripper pole, but he says its a fireman's pole with mirrors around it, because that's what he wanted to be growing up. Hilarious!

I would rather see my players assaulting innocent people in the streets than performing atrociously bad skit comedy before a gaggle of giggling hacks.

Damn, C, you signed for $63 million! Hire some writers to punch up the script a little bit. Buy a frigging joke book. Something. These faggy costumes alone are not going to carry the day.

Just because you beat them once doesn't guarantee another "W," especially when the Redskins have to go on the road.

If memory serves, the Redskins beat both of those teams are home early in the season. Granted, the Redskins are playing better as of late, but facing the Bears and/or Seahawks on the road is a tall task for anyone.

Redskins are 3-4 on the road, 1-4 on the road against teams with winning records.

That is nowhere close to what I was implying. I was pointing out that the Redskins' road record against winning teams (1-4) is going to kill them in the playoffs unless they play better on the road.

If not, it'll be "one and done."

Where in my previous posts did I suggest "chumps" - hmmm, I don't see any references like that - anywhere.

I agree with you... I just found it odd that "play2win" thought the best thing about your team was that Portis was not on it. I would think that your team would be a better running team with Portis in the backfield. Maybe you all like Bell now - I don't know.

The Skins are in a pretty good situation right now at running back but I fear we will lose Betts our #2 back in FA.

BTW. I was at the Skins Denver game. First time at your new stadium - Very nice place to watch a game. I also really liked your downtown. Hope to go to another Redskin game there in the future (hopefully no tuck rule this time...:vermeil: )

The next time the 'Skins and Broncos play is in 2009, and the game is AT Washington. The Broncos would be a "better running team with Portis" but the improvement in the running game would be offset and outweighed by not having Champ on defense. He sets the tone defensively for us, along with Al Wilson. We're glad to have Champ, especially with a trio of young DBs who can learn from Champ's expertise.

Not unlike us, i expected JAke to come out and play solid, AGAIN. i didnt expect his Td-int ratio as high as it is, but i did expect at least another 10 win season.

i dont think the Skins make the playoffs, but they should win this week.

Also thanks very much for champ. Not only is he a great player that changed our season around, he also has taught the new guys how to adjust to the NFL, evidence of this is their tackling, they do it just as well as he does.

It comes in handy if you want to plan ahead to the following year. Plus, it's pretty exciting to anticipate who the remaining two teams are. The Broncos get the Colts at home and go to New England based on records. And, they already had the Bengals and Seahawks coming to town while going on the road to Pittsburgh. Some excellent games!

i'm not gonna lie, i miss clinton...he was a threat to score on every play, and he was just a fun guy to watch. bell is too, but we don't use him enough, so whereas portis was a threat on almost every play, bell is a threat only when he's in, which is not every play. i don't know, but when i watched the skins-giants game this week and portsi had like a 20 yard TD, i just felt a little sad that he wasn't doing that for us anymore. portis was my favorite college player for the two years he played on miami, and then when he was drafted by the Broncos i was so happy. but not all marriages are built to last, i guess

Broncoman13
12-30-2005, 07:19 AM
Brunnel hasn't done much down the stretch. They were 5-6 and nobody expected them to make the playoffs. They're now 9-6 and nearly a lock! Brunnel has 902 yards passing the past 6 games w/ 8 TDs (4 came in one game!) and 4 INTs (3 came in one game-AZ). During that same time Portis has 700 total yards, 4 TD's and has thrown for a TD. His last 4 games have been 100 yard games. In fact, if not for 87 and 92 yard performances in weeks 11 and 12 he'd have a string of 7 in a row. That 92 yard performance was against the Chargers, who until last week were the league leaders in run D. Clinton is a total freak and probably (like Taco pointed out) enjoys embarassing the NFL by doing his interviews in drag... but he's running the ball well this year! Simply put, he's on his way to a 1500 yard 10 TD season. I'd rather have Champ, but the difference is very small.

You are dead on correct in this assessment.

Its Brunnel thats got them in the playoffs not Portis...

Portis is the biggest reason. Brunell has just played mistake free Football (for the most part). Portis is the one with 4 straight 100 yard games and 8 for the season.

I'll tell you this, if PORTIS was still on our team, there is no way we have a first round bye in the playoffs...

lmao...right right...if Portis was on your team i would gurantee him 1800-1900 yards and 17-18 TD's. Because of your running scheme. Portis is sooo bad i guess that since we were one of the bottom teams in rushing yards that he got us up to 5th in the league (Gibbs does deserve credit for this as well). What is your passing D doing with Champ might i ask?

more faide logic? without champ the def sec would be not as bad. (actually they aren't bad, but Den doesn't get qb pressure with their front 4)

Portis is a monster in the Denver system. NOW, He's playing with purpose and Gibbs has made adjustments with the running plays. Portis is a very good back and champ is very good CB. Portis would have even better numbers in Denver because that system is perfect for him. Still, he has been THE reason the skins are in the position they are in. He has carried this team along with the O-Line and it has opened up one on one matchups for Cooley and Moss who are real dangerous when they don't have 3 guys on them all the time.

Some people need to let this go. It was a good trade for both teams. Washington got who they needed and got rid of a guy who didn't want to be here. Same with Denver. Given the circumstances, it was a very fair trade for both.

You could make the argument that the Broncos got a damn good deal, but that depends on Tatum Bell eventually stepping up as the #1 RB. He has yet to do that. Denver fans need to stop bashing Portis because like it or not he was real consistent in Denver and Tatum Bell and MA have not been able to take over permanently. Washington fans need to stop bashing Bailey. He's a great CB and as long as Denver cranks up that pass rush again, he's going to be as close to a shutdown corner as there can be. CB is an unfair position. You can look real bad without a pass rush.

Both sides need to get over this deal.

Sonic dresses like a fag though ... not that there's anything wrong with that.

ps, edit. I do disagree with you that MA and Tater have not been able to take over for sonic. The one thing sonic did not bring to the table that Den depends upon was the physical punishing of a defense. Sonic did put the team on his back once in a fourth qtr to get into the playoffs, but he's running a lot better in those terms in Wash than he did here.

It's true, though, that Den's offense is different w/o him. Jake has more pressure to make plays from the pocket.

But in sum, you're absolutely right that both teams should be happy because both got rid of a guy who was unhappy and both solidified a big hole with the trade. And IF Tater ever became a 20 carry per guy who could gain 1500, then of course Den got the better deal.

Umm...? I think you might have made a mistake...unless you really think Champ sucks.

Champ...is probably one of the best corners in the league...but i do not understand why people think he is the best. He is not a shutdown corner...i think those regards would be better suited for Nate Clements or Terrance Newman.

yeah, newman was great with santana moss.

there are no shutdown corners in the nfl anymore. Just like bobby jones or hanzlek would have a tough time in today's nba.

Bendog, as always, you make good points. Probably the most realistic/logical poster on this board.

Just one correction though ;), for whatever reason, Parcells puts Aaron Glenn on Moss. I think it's stupid because SUPPOSEDLY Newman is better than Glenn. However, your point is well taken, because Moss would burn Newman over and over. Now if there was a pass rush, people would talk about how Newman "shutdown" Moss when in fact it was the D-line. It's hard to be a shutdown corner, but Champ is as close as it gets to a shutdown corner, although no one really is.

Still, the players always say he is the best CB in the league.

You gotta be joking. Clements has been burned more times this season than Champ has the past two seasons combined. Also, Champ's greatness is not just limited to being able to cover a WR, but to be able to tackle and help with the run (he has stop many RB's for a loss), and help other CBs with their assignments (last week he left his assignment to help out with Moss who was about 5 yds away, and he stoped a sure TD pass, very hard to measure that athletic ability).

I'm probably in the minority here, but i laughed pretty hard during the first part of that video.. after that it got pretty weak.

also, yeah Portis is a good RB, probably top 10, NEVER top 5, ever!

Champ is the best CB in the NFL.. CB's are harder to come by, and we have the best running system in the nfl (Atlanta doesn't count, Vick makes up for a lot of yards we'd otherwise hold over them, plus our line is more talented)

So the BEST CB in the NFL when we desperately needed a CB plus Tatum Bell for a RB that we really didn't need.. GREAT TRADE

Also, Champ is a LEADER.. Portis might provide some laughter and get everyone loose, but he's no leader..

basically .. champ is a champ! so glad we got him.

interesting thought.. we have leaders in all four areas of our defense

Safeties - Lynch
CB's - Bailey
LB's - Wilson
DL - Pryce and Warren

good combo.. this has turned into a complete ramble.. goodnight everyone

Champ, makes big plays...but he cannot cover half the field on his own. He also tends to bite on the big play every once in a while. He is the best playmaker in the league at corner though i must say. It sucks we got rid of him...but he's happy in Denver and Portis is happy in Washington. Worked out for both teams.

Portis not a leader?? That is news to me. He's willing to throw his body all over the place on the field and gets A LOT tougher yards than he ever did in Denver. You get this Portis and put him back in the Denver system and he will be unstoppable.

I like trades that work out well for both teams. Its the best outcome for long term success.

Shanahan hoodwinked some teams out of high draft picks for the likes of Jamie Brown and Jeff Lewis and then teams became reluctant to trade with him.

Agree with all of the above, but I feel Denver gets the most out of the trade, especially considering the added draft choice.
