Mile High cry: Sure, the game wasn't perfect, but just maybe Adam Cayton-Holland might learn about the twelfth man at Mile High and quit being a whiny little bitch. For he is the problem with the crowd getting into the game; he likes to sit on his hands during a defensive stand and drink his little latte.
Hello! Football is about the fans, too, and some of them like to revive the twelfth man like the old Mile High used to have. It's cute how Adam uses a public forum to cry about his little adventure at Mile High instead of maybe learning what it means to be a football fan.
Check out OF1 in tailgate spot 31 and see what it used to be like to be a real football fan.

I went to the Ravens game and it was the only game I have ever been to so I was a little pumped up and I kept standing up and cheering during big plays and then this lady came down and said that I needed to sit down because she couldn't see. Did I violate some unwritten rule by standing up that I don't know about or is this how the fans are at games. I thought that the point of going to a game was to stand up and get excited when things happen. Am I wrong?

I find myself being extremely frustrated with this topic. Having attended 6 of our 8 home games this year and around 6 over the last two years, there is a large difference in Mile High this Year.
The issue stems from Class economics, corporate tickets were prevelant in the new invesco, many people attended with little or no allegiance to the team. Rising ticket prices eliminated some of the most rabid fans, and an aging season ticket holder base has hurt fan noise as well. This created a laid back attitude and non-chalant atmosphere for the stadium. There were times in that place that it seemed like a road game.
Well the good news is that the MAGIC IS BACK BABY! and in a big way! The monday night game against the KC this year was hair raising! It brought back Goose Bumps. You could feel the new place shake, rattle and roll. The crowd was in it from the beggining and stayed long afterwards, easily the best game at the new mile high! The people in the 5th level were chearing as hard as the people in the 1st! That is what its all about!
People don't realize how much of an issue this really is for the broncos and pat bowlen. Now that the stadium is not "new" and in vogue many of the "Wine and Cheesers" are starting to stay home or are selling their tickets because the novelty has worn off.
This past week was a magical day at Invesco, the barrell man was out in full force, starting the wave in the second quarter, and the wave actually worked! It never seemed to the first couple years at invesco. The crowd actually cheers on first down now, and second, and the INCOMPLETE chant is starting to become magical again!
If you attend the playoff game, make sure you represent the broncos! What I mean by that is the atmosphere of "old mile high" you remember, the place that other teams dreaded coming to because of the noise and atmosphere. Cheer every play, every tackle, every run, denver still has the passion, we just need to show the rest of the nation!
:TJnPopps: had some bad wine and cheese, give me a bud and let me cheer my voice out!

No I was on the fifty yard line towards the top of the stadium. I think it was the East side but I'm not sure. I just turned and told the lady yeah I'll sit down because thats what your supposed to do at football games right? Then she went and sat down. I kept standing out of spite.

One smartazz question: How can the wave work if you stand all game long?
Really, I never had a problem with wine & cheesers telling me to sit down the couple of times I was at the stadium.....guess I'm lucky or something.
I will give this Cayton-Holland guy one point and that's I don't happen to be too fond of the beer-shower myself regardless of the circumstances...... luckily, this hasn't happened to me either and (knock on wood) it won't in the future.

I'd like to state for the record that there was a policy change. After enough complaining around here in combination with the radio show on 950 the fan a couple months ago where alot of Broncos fans called into complain about this security has changed the policy. If you are obeying all rules and are told to sit down you do not have to and the security will not force you to sit down or remove you like they use to. There is definetly a more relaxed security approach in general these days. I can assure you of that. If you break a rule they'll throw the book at you like always as they should but they don't jump on you for anything little thing anymore like standing in your seat, being out of your section for a minute to say hi to a friend etc. It's ALOT better.

Man, this is really disappointing to hear this about Mile High. Ive only been to 2 NFL games and both were at Ravens games. The first was against the Jets a couple of years ago for the last game of the year and the other was last week vs the Vikings. And all i can say is that hardly any of those fans were sitting for either game. Even the ones that were didnt complain at all. hell, i saw some 55 year old woman standing and yelling while her husband sat down. The game against the Vikings was great cause of the playoff implications for the Hornheads, plus i got club level tickets which was a great view of the stadium. But my point is the Ravens werent playing for anything except spoiler and yet the fans were crazy. Very disappointing to hear this about the Bronco fans at Mile High.

Well, first I was not arguing which "sport" was better to attend. Reading comprehension problems again Slug? I was giving an opinion about standing at sports, which I disagree that hockey is. Its a fight located on ice, not a sport.
When the hypocrits cry foul because Bertuzzi hits some dude and he is seriously hurt, but yet cheer most other hits and fights, I have a problem with it. To each their own Slug, but NHL is not a sport, its organized thuggery.

late to the party here.
i read the original westward article, as well as all the responses.
here's my take, though it might not be popular.
first off, i think the guy who wrote the original letter sounds like a nut.
first a long winded self absorbed letter including masterbation talk?
then, he describes the obnoxious fan around him with a POEM?
huh?
next part is where i might lose some people.
he also has a VERY valid point.
i think that assclown he was referring to was in my section.
if it wasnt the same guy, it was the same TYPE of guy, and a cheering bronco fan it is not.
hell yes we should cheer. hell yes we should make noise when the other team has the ball, stand up during big plays, and whoop it up with those around us.
that said, there are some people who are simply drunk idiots, and there was one of them in my section last home game.
i dont care about anonymity here. i sit in 538.
this guy stood up the ENTIRE game, he got in everyones face around him that wasnt CONSTANTLY making noise (including when WE had the ball), he never shut his mouth, he spit all over everyone around him, he dumped beer on more than a couple people.....
.......and most importantly, he rarely watched any of the game.
fvckin idiot didnt even know who had the ball half the time.
im aware some of you may not like this opinion, but im here to tell you that there is a big difference between a loud cheering FAN and an obnoxious drunk that isnt even paying attention to the game.
drink all you want, make as much noise as possible (when THEY have the ball, not when we do or at a friggin time out!!), and stand up at any important point in the game...
...but at least WATCH the game.
this guy had me and a few others (all great fans) telling him to just shut his mouth and watch the game, and thats exactly what he deserved to hear.

i dont know crush.
it was in ridiculous poem form, but he alluded
to beer being spilled, constant blathering, and i thought noise making all the time (which would include when we had the ball) though i may be wrong about the last part.
all i know is that when i read it i thought two things.
1) the writer of the original article is a serious loon, and
2) there are some drunk idiots at games who are making an ass out of themselves as opposed to cheering for their team.
