good news is that the bolts are dead but the bad news is everybody has jumped on the pats bandwagon after theyve won games lately against mediocre teams.it really does seem like this is a very prejiduce league when it comes to the analysts.all the talk all year long has been about the chuggers and they dont even make playoffs then after they bite the dust they bring the pats back to the top in a weakkkk division.denver is number 2 seed, cincy 3 and pitt is playing some good football and seattle never gets any hype.if it was up to these so called experts theyre would only be 3 teams in the nfl,sd,indy and new eng.???

I'd say Denver is probably the least talked about team in the AFC Playoffs, but ya know
I'd much rather have it that way
I hear ya ... I'm sick and tired of hearing about NE. Perhaps the Broncos will get some much-deserved respect if the Pats return to Denver in January and the Broncos put them to sleep.
I'm really okay with the Broncos "being under the radar." They are going to surprise some people. Shanahan is desparate to get out from under the "can't win without Elway" crap ... I expect the Broncos to shine the weekend of the 14th and move on to the AFC title game. It would be even sweeter if they win and the Colts LOSE, which wouldn't surprise me. The Chargers exposed the Colts and playoff teams will surely try to duplicate the Chargers' gameplan.

If Denver wins 3 out of the next 4 SBs, I imagine the national press will take them more seriously. Given the last couple of playoff appearances, it's reasonable to be guarded about the Broncos. Personally, I like it. Low expectations. High reward.
Granted, NE deserves some kudos for putting together a nice string of victories, however, the luster is fading on their recent SB supremacy. It's 2005 and NE is not guaranteed a spot in the SB. What's the media going to do when the Pats lose? Jump on the Broncos' bandwagon?

I'd much rather slap down Cincy hard...but dispatching the Pats would be nice.
The media won't like it at all since Denver doesn't have any media superstars or a marketable style but who cares? It's all about the wins and the Championship.
They're still pouting about San Diego being eliminated.....I would love to give ESPN and their ilk much more to pout about.

You're kidding, right? They already have their noses so far up Payaton's arse I'm surprised they can still type. That's why it will be so much fun to watch him go down in flaming ruin once those pansy ass Colts run into a real playoff contender rather than the cream puffs that filled this year's Colt schedule. Can't get everything you want, Tags. No matter how you rig the schedule.

well honestly i have to agree with them not talking about jacksonville.they do not impress me at all.their weakness is at qb.this gerrard isnt going to put enough points on the board to hurt anyone.they play good defense but you still have to score.that will probably be chicagos downfall.

You're kidding right? NE is a class team with great players, the best QB in the league, likely the best coach, and they're in the middle of one of the best SB runs in the history of the league. Why wouldn't the press be excited about their chance to win 3 straight?
I agree with Shack, under the radar is much better....plus Denver always matches up well with NE. Bring 'em on.

Our game with Miami this weekend is hardly a measuring stick for how we'll do in the playoffs. We'll try to win, but in minimal fashion. Most people feel we're better off as the #4 seed anyway.
Our injury report came out and Bruschi is questionable with a calf injury and is labeled "day to day".
There was a rumor that some other players were saying it was a torn calf muscle, but who knows. Having Monty Biesel come back to play for Bruschi doesn't exactly want to do cartwheels.

I remember in 1998, Shanny tried to do the same type of thing and got fined by the NFL

I don't know.....but he's definitely the most tight-lipped coach I've ever seen.
I just watched the 5PM News and they laughed when they said "Belichick offered an update on Bruschi today".....knowing it was overstated because the answer is the typical "non-answer" we're so accustomed to here.

Considering what the Jets were. The state of that Team. Garbage time or not. If you don't completely manhandle that team, you show weakness. Thats how bad the Jets are this year. And their team (the Jets) are probably playing their worst ball of the year right now, and thats saying alot.
For the game to even have a slight resemblance of competitiveness is a major disappointment for any team not named the Aints, 49'er or Texans. And I definitely believe The Jets are a worse team than any of those three...

Exactly ... of course, Al Davis isn't breathing down the league's neck about the "Patriots' tactics" like he is about the Broncos. Davis has spent considerable energy exposing the Broncos early, often, and sparing no expense. He's the reason the Broncos were fined for "salary cap" infractions in the late 90s, too.
That's the only way he can beat the Broncos - off the field. We all know how the "on the field" games have been going :) ... 17-5 in the past 22 games, favoring the Broncos, of course.

From one of the many articles written on the Pats domination of the Jets:
"The Patriots held a decisive advantage in virtually every category at the end of the half: 16-0 in first downs, 186-28 in total offense, 23:34-6:26 in time of possession.
Bollinger completed only 3 of 7 passes for 17 yards and went to the locker room with an embarrassing 10.7 passer rating."
Final Time of Possession NE 43:21, NYJ 16:39
That's dominant.

I agree, that is dominant. Garbage time TD's show no weakness. It shows the players arent really trying.
This is the NFL, you arent going to shut out every opponent.
It still doesnt change the fact that the Pats have had a weak schedule down the stretch that have made them look better than they are. But in saying that, if they draw the Jags, i think they will advance at least 1 more round.

I would be hoping for a 3 seed if I were the Pats. That gaurantees you won't face Indy until the Championship game, plus gives you a slim chance for a home playoff game in the Championship like the 87 Redskins.

Not 27-0 Domination.
31-21. Give me a break. No matter how you slice it, you allowed a Jets team that would've probably got beaten by most BOWL TEAMS (Yes, maybe even AKRON...) score 21 points on your butts.
Realistically that game was a step back from the supposed momentum you had been building the preceding weeks.
A 21-10 would have been much more the way you guys should have taken care of business. But to give up 21 points, no matter how they got it, to one of the most offensively inept teams in the league has got to be a joke.
I think teams are going to look at it, and say, if you max-protect, hold off the front 7, you can EASILY take advantage of their "BACK 4"...
BTW- The JETS are LAST in the League for points scored and 2nd to LAST in Total Offensive (yards)...
And thats even after Putting up 21 Points against the Pats...

no one has jumped on our bandwagon....the patriots have replaced the chargers as "the most dangerous team" in football right now.....
the steelers have "hit their peak".........which i guess means that we're pentalized for playing at a high level all year long...
but i'm sure i speak for everyone in saying that this is the way we like it....i like us being under the radar................
i disagree about seattle...they're getting plenty of hype...they will have the leagues mvp and they are above us in every power ranking despite our WAY tougher schedule...i guess them beating indy's backups at home was proof enough that they are the real deal.......

I don't get it. First of all this is professional football and we are not trying to impress any pollsters. Second you obviously didn't watch the game because it was domination. (defense gave up 2 td's one at the end in Mop up time after Flutie was on Field for offense, look at time of possesion). Thirdly it seems it's a dammed if you do and dammed if you don't situation. We beat the crappy teams and now that's not good enough ,we had to beat them 55-0 . (god forbid if we lost to another NFL team that had a bad record like we did with Dolphins late last year and how that season turned out) It seems all I've heard in the past is rooting for the Pats to get healthy and to knock off the Colts for you. Now, when we might actually play the Broncos first we are a bunch of has-beens. I guess I'll stick with those has beens of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.

Other than MAYBE the Jags, EVERY team in the AFC playoffs scares me.
Pitt is starting to streak that running game, and Ben is not quite still a rook.
NE is getting healthy at just the right time, and has the most dangerously accurate QB in the league. Indy MAY be slumping..but they have extra motivation...sure that this is THEIR year. Jags struggled all year to just get where they are at..but their IN. Cinn has a dangerous air attack.
Sure, I think we could PROBABLY handle them ( even Indy) if the game is in our crib...but thinking that any playoff game is going to be a cakewalk is not paying attention to many facts. We match up better against some teams than others, but they play the games for a reason. Any given day...blah blah blah, is an adage that is often repeated because it is TRUE!
It is going to take a total team game to win against any of the teams that come to Invesco. I'm sure they aren't, but if the players think along the lines that some of our brethren are, we are going to be one and done, again.
Respect the opponents cause they had to work for 16-17 weeks to get in the position they are in, also. Playoffs are somewhat about attitude, but that has to be backed up with play on the field. Its lose and your out, for EVERY team. I don't like all this talk about the SB when we haven't done anything yet. ONE at a time, remember?

I agree, to an extent. It would be disastrous to go 8-0, secure a bye, and then lose in the 2nd round. For those of us old enough to remember 1996, the Jags can conjure up some disheartening memories. That was a long ride home after that 30-27 loss. I can still see Michael Dean Perry walking off the field and giving the Jags a first down for having 12 men on the field. That whole game was surreal.

I don't think the team OR the fans have peaked yet. I've missed one home game this year, and I think the fans' best is yet to come. The team needs the fans to step up in the playoffs and make some serious noise. Fans should bring 7 years of home playoff drought frustration to Invesco the weekend of January 14th and make the visiting team's life miserable all day long.

Broncs won't lose that home game no matter who comes in.

I hope you're right. No one wants a repeat of '96.

need a "knock on wood"
We are a great team at home, but the playoffs are a different monster. We will be challenge heavily by whoever we play.

Wish I could be there. I know I would make some noise.!Booya!

It's too bad you can't be there. Having attended games in both Old Mile High and Invesco, I have to say that I'm disappointed in the fan "noise" after all of the hype about how much "louder" Invesco was going to be because of how it was constructed. Few people took into account that since Invesco was so much bigger, fans would have to be that much louder since it wasn't as "compact" as the Old Mile High.
The fan base is different, too. Regardless, those who are going to the game need to make more noise than ever before. It's time that fans step up and restore the playoff mystique that the Old Mile High had.

With the Broncos in Denver, no team scares me. This is a VERY good home team and there is no way they're going to lose a playoff game at home (besides, they still owe me for the 49ers super bowl).
On the road is a different story...
But bring the Patriots, the Bengals, the Steelers, or even the Colts and they Broncos will handle their business at home. They've done it all year.

Many of the points you make I keep hearing about. I cant understand it. When I lived in denver it was the late 60s and early 70s. The people who went to the game s still made noise even though most years we were really bad. Then I got to go back to mile high in the late 80s and I thought the stadium was going to fall down. I just cant picture denver fans not making noise and asking other fans to sit down like Ive read hear.

I would much rather face a playoff inexperienced team like Cincinatti with a porous run defense than the defending Superbowl champs with 3 Lombardis in 4 years who are getting healthy. New England deserves the pub. Untill somebody takes it away from them on the field they're still the team to beat.
I agree with this.

It's sad but true. In fairness, however, it's important to keep in mind that those who were there during the formative decades (60s and 70s) are now in their 60s and 70s and probably aren't as inclined to stand throughout a game.
On the other hand, the atmosphere is more "white collar" than it is "blue collar" like the Old Mile High was. The NFL is distancing itself from that style of fan, in my opinion, which is to the Broncos' disadvantage. I still think that in moving to the new stadium, relationships with fellow fans were lost as many ticketholders changed or were displaced. That makes a difference. Plus, I think that more people are selling their seats than they used to in the old stadium, so it's more difficult to establish relationships because you're sitting next to different people almost every week.

Too much noise is being made of NE's latest wins, but they have yet to beat a decent team. The only team with better than 500 avg they beat is TB, and they are an avg team with a good record. In the AFC W TB would be 5th (I have little doubt the Raiders could have beaten them twice). The media is making too much noise, and people are too quick to follow.
PS. Even when NE is strong, Shanahan can give them fits. He almost beat them in their SB yr with a QB that is not even playing today.

New England is getting their much deserved respect from the media. No team has been more dominant since 2001.
As far as Denver, the critics have labeled the offseason Broncos acquisitions as the "Browncos" and ridiculed them. That team stands at 12-3 at the present time. If it means getting no respect all the way to Detroit, that's fine with me...

NE may not be what they've been in the past, but they beat Tampa Bay decisively, and they qualify as a decent team, and in general they're just getting healthy again. I don't think they'll win it, but if my choice is between NE or an inexperienced team that lost a game at home v. Buffalo, with the #2 seed on the line, I'll take the inexperienced team. Home field would play a bigger role in our favor against Cinci than it would NE.
In reality, I look at every team and find many reasons to be worried, especially in the AFC which will have several strong teams not even making the playoffs.
