BRIAN BILLICK RETURNING IN 2006
Brian Billick will remain the Ravens' head coach for the 2006 season, owner Steve Bisciotti announced at a team meeting Wednesday.
"We have an on-going and extensive process to find ways to win. This included a thorough evaluation of Brian Billick. Collectively, we concluded that continuing with Brian as head coach gives us the best opportunity to win," said Bisciotti.
This has easily been the most difficult season of Billick's seven-year stint with the Ravens, but the team has finished strong. Baltimore, which started the season 2-7, has won three of its last four games and would reach 7-9 with a win over Cleveland Sunday.
Billick has a career record of 62-49 and won a Super Bowl in 2000, just his second season on the job.

How much do you think Boller playing like an actual QB helped that one out?

I was hoping for a new coach to come in and sweep out the 'bad' ala Cleveland. Boller would be an interesting project for Shanny. Oh well.

Boller showing up for a few games will haunt them. They should seriously look intoa new guy at QB. Billick i think is a good coach, he isnt the problem, the players are. (i think, altho he is supposed to be an offensive guru, right???)

He walked into a situation where they had a great defense already put in place by Marvin Lewis. He was brought in to bring the offense to go with that defense as he is the "offensive guru". Since he has been the coach the offense has ranked 22nd, 16th, 14th, 26th, 20th, 31st and 23rd despite having a very good OLine and some quality RB's, a top notch TE in Heap and a boatload of high draft picks spent on WR's. His only success has come from a defense that he had little to nothing to do with. If that qualifies as a good coach then I would hate to see what a bad one looks like.

Ha! won me over... great news for us then. I never payed to much attention but after looking at it, they have a good RB, good WR, good OL, and well Boller aint good, but they had time to put in their guy (wasnt that supposed to be Grbac a few years back:laugh: )
Well sucks for Ravens fans, good for us!

Last I looked Ozzie newsome is the GM in baltimore, but no one gets on him for picking Kyle boller. Billick just has to work with whats he is given. Personally, I cant stand the guy. Something about billick just rubs me the wrong way. But I think its unfair that he gets all the blame for the Boller pick, and when Newsome gets something right he gets all the credit.

So Boller lights up the Packers and Vikings and suddenly all is well. If only all of our bosses were this easy.

Well the offensive problems and blame go much farther than just Boller. This is Billicks 7th year and Boller has only been there for 3 of them.

The other factor I bet we see play out is that the further removed that defense gets from Marvin Lewis the worse things will get on that side of the ball. The moment that becomes just a middle of the pack defense to go with the offense that the "guru" has brought to the table we will see a team that makes this years Texans look solid.

This has been said before, but the NFL really is a copycat league. It's almost laughable how much franchises follow each other around trying to do exactly what everyone else is doing. Billick is the beneficiary of a "keep the coach" climate that's permeated the NFL this year. Where the trend used to be.... axe the coach the first sign of trouble, now it's... you have to stick with a guy and give him a chance. Bowlen has been using that philosophy for years. Only recently have other organizations caught on. (Aside from Pittsburgh and a select few others) Not great timing for Ravens fans, though... as I don't think this is the guy to stick with. He doesn't seem to do much besides complaining about the refs every week.

and in addition to that their top player on the defense has been showing his age lately and ed reed right now is only a shadow of the player that won defensive player of the year in 2004

Actually, Aaron Brooks would be an interesting project for Shanny. He's just like Jake used to be--a scattergun who runs around too much and forces passes only to have them picked clean. Still, he'd be a nice insurance policy if shanny could Plummer-size him...

Why do you guys have such interest in "projects"? If you aren't going to try and develop your own QB from scratch why not just go get a proven commodity rather than gamble on trying to polish up previous failures? I realize it can be done on occassion but why take the risk if not needed?

I wouldn't touch Brooks with a 10 foot pole
I want to draft a QB and develop him, like a 4th round pick this year

If you think Ed Reed is some bust, I'm sure there is a place on the pine for him in Denver.
Second, it's all valid...Despite having a dominant D and Jamal Lewis, that offense has underachieved every year. That isn't even going into how he lied to the Vikings twice and Broncos once on draft day. The guy is a total weasle. I hate the RatBirds with a passion...in fact...I hated them worse than Oakland till I saw 7 dirty hits last sunday. Thank god Jake jumped or his knee would of been linguini. I still can't figure out why more personal fouls were not called. The guy wasn't even going for a tackle...he was going straight for the knees, from the side...I was outraged, but no flag. there were a bunch of personal fouls that weren't called. You think Lelie slipped on a broken beer bottle and needed 14 stiches? Did you see the rolling on MA's ankle? It was all over the field and the refs just let it ride. I couldn't believe it. It got real bad when it got to 22-0 and they knew they were being whitewashed. Instead of taking it like men, they started taking cheap shots...it started happening midway thru the 3rd.
I'm still baffled how the refs let all that thuggery go, but if you breath on a QB or WR, it's a penalty. I saw 7 personal fouls that were not called. How can you OBVIOUSLY go after a QB's knees and no flag is baffling.

You could be right. I'm sure they will bring in a vet to back him up BUT if he continues like he has played the last three weeks he could be really good. Sometimes it just takes awhile to click.

The day Shanny starts taking advise from NaptownChef is the day he gets one step closer to the door. There is absolutely no reason to sign Brooks, it's absurd. Not only are we tight on the cap, we are set at QB if you haven't noticed. Go back and have some group therapy and leave us to our party....

He would do no worse if he were to listen to me come draft day. He might even pile up a couple more SB rings without Elway if that were the case.

We have been spending almost everything of Defense for the past half decade, but still manage to put a decent offense up. Hell, we even traded Portis away. We got Tater, but we simply don't have high picks except Foster, and he's been rather mediocre for a first rounder in his third year. I never liked that pick. Other than that, most picks have gone to D, and been total busts. This draft was oddly, good. I didn't know we were going to cut line, so in retrospect it was good to draft deep.
It's all part of Bronco Billy's plan...BTW...I have demanded 2 firsts or his immediate return from Bang.

Say what again? We just had the best draft in half a decade and didn't even use a first. Go to your room, the adults are talking.

Good lord...You are bound to stumble into one once every decade or so by accident. Despite an overall good draft he still found a way to really bungle first day pick on Clarrett Jug Head with a much better talent in Marion Barber on the board.

Someone, wabbit or other, I believe stated the game never slowed down for Boller. My position is this, he was capable of being taught. Witness his transformation at Cal. Physically it's there. He goes to the 'guru' led Ravens, maybe that's part of his problem. As most here don't have much respect for the 'gurus' abilities I don't think that's a stretch.
I figured since Shanny can get Jake and, from the preseason, Van Pelts games turned around, why not? If the price is right. That's pretty much where I'm coming from. In another thread Carr was being discussed if Houston should go for Leinhart. I like Carr better. Also, for me it has to do with if Denver could rehabilitate one of these young QBs reputations, perhaps the least
they could would be to increase their trade value. Works for running backs.
