Does anyone find it odd that the NFL would permit every Colts' player to wear a "horseshoe" with the initials "JD" in it in memory of Tony Dungy's son who committed suicide yet the league was upset when Plummer wanted to honor Pat Tillman in the same way?
JD committed suicide and, with all due respect to the Dungy family, was not a role model like Tillman was. Not to taint the boy's memory, but he had some serious issues as discussed at PFT.
Check out the screen captures of JD's message board, http://www.frycookonvenus.com/misc/dungy/ ... pretty sad.
Sometimes, I don't understand the NFL's thinking. Tony Dungy is a wonderful man. His son made a bad decision, which affected a lot of people. It's a sad tragedy, but I guess I don't agree with the NFL's logic of permitting a team to honor JD but not PT.
Just my opinion.

I completely agree. Unfortunately people will play the asshole card on you like it's a crime.

In fairness, The NFL did honor Pat Tillman and every player wore his number on the helnet.
I feel awful for the Dungy family. One of my sister's died in a car accident in '97, so I know what tragedy feels like.
It's just disgusting that an angry young man who commits suicide gets honored on an NFL helmet but a former player who was serving his country dies and the NFL frowns on a former teammate wanting to honor Pat Tillman in the same way.
I just happen to find that really sad.

Yes, however, when Jake Plummer wishes to continue honoring PT for the remainder of the season, the NFL said "no."
I guess I would have much rather seen the NFL honor the Dungy family instead of JD.

I agree he should not be honored on the players helmuts. I know the Colts are doing it honor of Tony which is just, but another way would have been more appropriate.
That being said, a lot of people commenting on his websites obviously do not have children or they are not teenagers yet or some parents aren't aware of the things their children hide from them. And what teenager doesn't hide things from their parents. Because a teenager does things to impress their peers or shock the adult morals does not mean they are bad or disturbed kids. Obviously James was but I don't think that his suicidal tendencies would have been discovered from his websites. Two of my kids had websites on myspace and they had things on their that I didn't like, some of the same stuff James had. But both are doing fine, one married with two children and doing well, the other in college on a full scholarship at 3.6 grade point average. I do not check his grades as now he is in college it's up to him whether his future is important or not. He brings them to me and we talk or I should say I do more listening. That's what's important, not me judging what he's doing.
