It's no brainer to me, Lovie Smith = Coach Of The Year.

Mike Shanahan = Coach of the year!!
But Lovie is a great choice, and will be the winner

Shanahan should win just based on the criticism he took from the press all year long.

Shanahan is coach of the year in my mind, but Saban will get a lot of votes go his way...

Too Low:
9 Denver Broncos - We're gonna win the Super Bowl, baby.
11 Carolina Panthers - This team is loaded and they have a great coach.
20 Arizona Cardinals - Shakey QB situation only major weakness.
24 Houston Texans - Tough division, but lots of talent on this roster.
25 Tennessee Titans - Fisher too good to let them drop this far.
29 Chicago Bears - Weak QB play will sabotage them, but defense could be best in the Conference.

Too High:
4 Baltimore Ravens - Boller is garbage. Defense is no 85 Bears.
6 Atlanta Falcons - Lots of flukey wins last year.
12 New Orleans Saints - Give me a frigging break.
13 Oakland Raiders - No defense. None.
18 Green Bay Packers - Favre's consecutive game streaks ends in sub .500 season.
22 New York Giants - Eli Manning will have a career similar to Tommie Aaron's.

I think the Bears are going to be a surprise team next season. If Mike Brown comes back 100%, that defense Lovie is putting together will be evil.

Oooooh, this could be a good debate: Which division is worse, the NFC Central or NFC West?
NFC West has Seattle, Arizona, St. Louis, and San Fran. The only team with a winning record in it is Seattle.
The NFC Central has the Bears, Vikings, Packers, and Lions. No doubt GB and Detroit were terrible, but at least the Vikings have a winning record right now, (8-7) although that could slip to .500 next week.

I knew that their defensive line would be demonous this season. Harris was superb last year, and add to that Ogunn. Alex Brown also turned it up this year.
I had some questions about their secondary, but clearly they have learned to capitalize on the pressure.

I figured the return of Mike Brown would be huge. He's the heart and soul of the team. I was even giving Nathan Vasher some love before most people outside Chicago.

Dunta Robinson gets lit up like a pinball machine all year and run over flat as a pancake when he tries to go head up with Kyle Johnson. However, he gets six interceptions as a first round pick, so he gets a bunch of votes for ROY. Hell, Nathan Vasher of the Bears had a virtually identical season, but since he was a third rounder, most of the voters wouldn't even consider him.

I actually felt that their defense would be dominant at the begining of the season. They were the first thing i picked up in my fantasy league and ive been riding them all the way to the championship.

I don't understand why Shanny doesn't get any love for coach of the year. There was a poll somewhere about who should be coach of the year and Shanny wasn't even listed as one of the 5 recipients. I mean doesn anyone in the United States[outside of Indiana] actually think Dungy has done a better coaching job than Shanahan?

"Let's hope Denver's D will be improved enough to hold a Ravens offense to 10 points. I don't want to lose to the Ravens again this year."
Well, Denver's defense was good enough to earn them a 12-10 victory!!!

that division is pretty bad too. AZ has never been that bad all year, they hang in there every game. Sf is terrible, and St Louis is dangerous when they were healthy. the nod goes to the central because detroit and Gb are so bad

You do know that there's other positions besides QB right?
Like the entire 11 defensive players out there for example.

How is this guy not on the list? I'll almost bet the farm he wins it especially with all the media that want CHI town to have a good team.

Well, at first i thought yea he should. but then looking at that division made me think twice. The very same reason why i wouldnt consider Holmgren who also has had a great year by giving the Seahawks their best season ever. The NFC is just too watered down in my opinion. Pitt just totally hammered Chicago when they came to visit and that gave me some doubts. The Defense is outstanding for the Bears but a weak conference and division can go a long way with that.

Everyone of those coaches you listed has had a bad loss. Happens in the NFL. No one expected the bears to even be 500 let alone a 2 seed and 12-11 wins.

True, but again because of the way the Vikes, Pack, and Lions turned out it made their job a hell of a lot easier. I mean, he has done a good job dont get me wrong but Nick Saban in his first year has been more impressive because of the conference he is in.

I had some other Bear hype quotes I could have pulled, too. I started talking them up when they drafted Harris and traded for Ogunleye. I knew the return of a healthy Mike Brown would be the missing piece to the puzzle.

In the AFC North? no, and the Bears wouldnt have that record either if they weren't in a mid-major college division as well, Chicago might as well had just played teams from the MAC instead.

It's still the NFL. When talking about wins how many teams over 500 did the Bengals beat? 3 I think and the Bears beat 4 teams with winning records.

You should win fan of the year for keeping the heat on during the off season. Your off season reports were sensational. You helped a lot of people get through a nasty off season. Ha!
(I guess I should stop lobbying for TShirts - I survived the Orange Mane Off season 2005) :poke:
I give it to Lovie Smith because the Bears have sucked since Al Davis was a small child.
Mike Shanahan deserves serious consideration. How many coachs have got into the playoff three years in a row?
Marvin Lewis made the Bengals respectable...Wow. That is like a miracle. All the press was knobbing on how good Denny Green would make the Cardinals. I guess the fans know a little more than the press.

Bears will be marginally better with Sexy rexy as QB but their weakness is at WR. Muss has dropped a lot of balls & not a lot of depth, Berian is their speed guy & seems to have the same consitency probs as Ash does. No one beyond #2 worth mentioning. If the D gets run on like Pitt did Bears will be in trouble
