That sounds funny. Anyway, Foxy has done nothing but steadily improve all year. He was blanketing recievers. Collins was really accurate, and we were lucky Porter must of had a hangover or something. He was awfull. We are lucky he kept dropping those perfect passes. Naturally, Collins wil be kicked to the curb, but that wasn't his fault.
C. Cox has also been a pleasant surprise for a FA rookie. We had him on Moss several times in zone drops where he picked up Moss and held his own. If we could get Huff, I believe we could have one of the best secondaries in the NFL. He's in the mold of the safety of the future IMO. You simply have to be able to cover these days as a safety. Cox brings that, and so would Huff. Lynch can't last forever. I don't really think Lynch had a pro bowl season, and got in on rep, but maybe I'm wrong.

I want to see Browner play next year, from what I've heard of him, he sounds like he's in the Steve Atwater mold.

Fox and Cox....I think I saw that porno.
Lynch's hits get him attention (good and bad), but Ferguson has been a steady force all season long. Browner came out too early. He should have played college ball at least one, maybe two, more years. He's talented but extremely raw, which is why he went undrafted. Perhaps he could step in for Lynch when his time in Denver comes to a close.

I forget about Browner...he's what, the nephew of Joey? He's got the bloodline.
Question: Assuming he's over his injury, can players on IR practice at all, or just rehab and go to meetings? I know you don't waste reps on someone on IR, but it would be nice to see him develop a little. Just being around the team will mature him, just curious if they can be part of the practice at all.

IMO, if we draft a safety they wont be starting next season. Lynch will be a Bronco for at least 1 more year and Ferguson has more than proved himself this season. How often have we been beaten down the middle this year like we were on a regular basis with Kenoy back there?

Yeah, the 4.6+ 40 time he ran obviously had nothing to do with it

For safety, that isn't unacceptable actually...what do you think Lynch runs? Now Lynch has incredible instincts and hitting power, but it really depends on Browners game speed. We will see...I'm not on his bandwagon, but take a look in camp next year.

There's some confusion about that. Brandon's father is named Keith, but he's not the same Keith Browner who played LB for USC and DE for Tampa Bay.
From what I can tell, Brandon is no relation to Joey Browner. I can see how people make that mistake because Brandon has similar physical dimensions. Joey was inhumanly strong for a DB, though. He was probably stronger than most OLBs of his era.
The Browner family has quite an amazing football legacy. No fewer than four Browner brothers played in the NFL. Joey, Ross, Keith and Jim Browner were all drafted by NFL teams. Joey and Ross were first rounders. Ross' son Max Starks is the starting RT of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

and Browner wasn't in the draft as a safety, he was there as a corner. He was moved to safety after Denver picked him up. We're talking about why he went undrafted, and a corner who runs a 4.6+ 40 isn't going to be picked.

And then he was undrafted. I read some articles that said he was too physical and slow for the NFL corner and that he would make a better safety. So we go and get him and make him into a safety which if you ask a lot of DB's they'll tell you that possition can be more fun because of the freedom it allows (and less blame).
Anyway I never really got why no else thought he was worth even a seventh round pick to switch to safety. All I know is that for a kid to come in late and work his way from the 4th to the second team in a matter of weeks means that the staff liked something about him. He played special team which is always a bonus if you're trying to make a Shanahan team.

You know, combine times are meaningless.
Unless they are ran with full pads on. Are they?
Game speed and track speed are entirely different. Someone may not be fast on the track but doesnt lose speed with pads and spikes on sometimes unsure footing while the fleet footed on the track slow down considerably with pads.
Of course, the opposite also holds true which makes track times stupid and meaningless.
And really unless its officially timed its all just "best guess" anyway.
I think Browner could be a good safety for us. Far too early to tell but he has all the tools.

No doubt. Keep him where he is at. Slowik has all these corners looking and playing the ball like pros. Paymah and Cox have even looked like more than make-shift dime backs on a few plays. The way foxworth has stepped up really has me excited at the prospect of a Foxworth, Bailey, D-will secondary. It's looking awesome. I also wonder how much he had to do with our draft board.

If our young players have another year or two developing like they have this year, someone will give him a shot as DC. I just hope it isn't us.
You have to wonder how much Slowik's success this year has just been a contrast to how poor a job David Gibbs was doing. It's too bad there isn't a way to see how Darrent, Foxworth, Paymah, etc. would have played this year if Gibbs was still here.
Plus, Gibbs has a weird head. I can't trust a guy that has a head shaped like that!

From what I have seen since the Jacksonville game I think Foxworth will be a better CB than Darrent Williams. This isn't a slam on Williams. I think Foxworth is going to be great he is more consistent than Williams. He is less flash but i think he is more solid in his coverage and tackleing.

A number of people were down on Ferguson when Kenoy left. Ferguson was and is much more a playmaker that Kennedy. All Kennedy provided was a number of impressive hits and penalties. Not much in the way of cover or turnovers.

yet he is also the reason we've been hollering during games when the DB's (with the exception of Bailey) are 8+ yards back and give up an easy first down with a simple hitch route. There have been too many instances where the rookies missed the tackles on that little route and gave up a chunk of yards.

He had one pick in 5 years before this year. How does that make him a playmaker? He's had a great year but he also dropped atleast two other picks, one that would have kept points off the board. He has missed coverages as well. I'm going to let that go because he really hasn't started much so maybe he will have time to improve.

There was a article about this. Them playing that far off helps them see the play and gives them a better chance to make a play on the ball.

The stone cold fact with defense is if you take something away, you give a weakness somewhere else. When you blitz, which of course we all love, you lose contain and some coverage...play tight zero coverage, you might get burnt long...play off the ball, they might nickle and dime you underneath...
I think one of the secrets of a good D is to be able to disguise...now I don't think that should include Pryce in coverage...but we all saw it. he's taking up a passing zone, but sheesh...that was certainly odd as hell.

I was pretty upset with cox missing some key tackles a couple games ago, but i was impressed with him last week. he has a pretty agressive tackling style (ala champ). if he can get that down, he would make a good nickleback
i was watching old tapes of atwater, dennis smith, and lott, i miss the hardass safteys, that make as many PLAYS as they do hits hits. With lynch getting slower quicker than the seasons change, where can we find some some badasss saftey? ..... I think theyre a dying breed.

Laron Landry of LSU DB. There are about 8 good safety's coming out this year going down to Daniel Bullocks of Nebraska or so. Several very tall Cb's that could switch as well like Jason Allen of TEN, Cedric Griffin of TEX, or Huff who have rotated among CB and Safety. Overall, a good class of DB's this year and more the year after.

Yeah thats his name. He's rated pretty high. I wouldn't mind landing Bullocks in the third, I think our pick there would be the right spot for him, that it if we couldn't land Bing or Huff first.
