Lelie has always only needed a chance with us throwing to him consistently.

If we commit to throwing to him 7 to 8 times every single game and not just the Hail Mary's, then days like today will be routine and he will take off like a rocket and be a major force in the NFL.

He has run good routes all year and blocked like a demon, he just wasn't part of our game plan except for the occasional 40 yrder. I hope he becomes a major target in the playoffs as it will open so much up for the RBs Rod AND the TEs to have him catching 6 to 8 balls each game rather than 2.

This is why we spent a # 1 on this guy. He is no Marcus Nash.

Even though I loved the catches Lelie made today, I was more impressed with the way the coaching staff was using him. You can't just run him on the fly every play. Working him underneath is going to be big during the playoff run.

I so agree with this. Denver just never threw him the ball very much. Send him on the Slants and throw him the damn ball. If he comes alive in the playoffs Denver will be very dangerous!!!

6 catches for 110 yards, his best receiving day in 2 years since the game in Indy in 2003 and the second best yardage day of his career to date. Made some fine grabs over the middle today and I can only hope that this is the sign of things to come and he can be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs and in his contract year in 2006.

I feel Lelie's statistics this season were more opportunity related than performance. Today, he looked like a complete receiver. It took Tim Brown six years to put it together and become a Pro Bowl caliber receiver. I think Lelie can still be the guy to eventually take over the #1 from Rod.

I hope so too, otherwise we'll only have to waste another high draft pick on a receiver or spend big $$ getting one in FA. A Rod Smith only comes around once in a lifetime and it may be a long while before we get anyone so talented so cheap.

Eric Moulds and Reggie Wayne will be out on the open market. I love Ash... but i just don't think we know how to use him or he fits our offense very well.

Eric Moulds would be lethal in our offense receiver wise

he can block and both can get yac

Well next season would be the best time to get him. Lelie will be quite cheap being in the final year of his contract. 2007 it'll be either Lelie or a new receiver not both.

I was real happy for Ash today, it seemed like he was wide open almost every time the ball came his way on those short & intermediate routes. I've been rooting for this guy since day 1, and it sure would be nice to see him as a complete WR for the ol' orange & blue for many more years to come.

This is the way that a mid-first round draft pick should play. We really shouldnt be pleasantly suprised, only satisfied for this week.

In my book, untill he does this every other game, he'll leave much more to be desired.

Ashley Lelie - 6'3" 200lbs, 4th year
Terrell Owens - 6'3 226lbs, 10th year

If Ashley starts to take off and continues to fill out, playing the way he did today, what kind of player are we looking at in six years?

How can he when he seldom gets thrown to and when he is its often fly patterns? Very few people can see this! I guess you're one of many. thwack

One word: Trust. That's what's kept the reigns on this guy. Shanahan and Plummer both want to feel good when that balls in the air that Ash has got it down. It'll come. He's very lucky in the sense that Rod Smith blocks him so he has no choice but to carefully absorb what ole' 80 is all about.

Someone who probably had more maturity at age ten than TO does with ten years of experience.

Seriously, Lelie was amazing today. He had yards after the catch and actually made people miss. It awesome, though credit Jake for some great throws.

When you see a game like he had today you wonder why they don't get him more involved like this early every game. Does he just have trouble getting off the LOS most of the time, or what? If he can play like this, we're a much better offense.

He has the ability to be a very complete and dangerous receiver. I want to see him be more and more aggressive in addition to bulking up, but he looked the part today.

I have been begging for ASH to get QUICK SLANTS, SLANTS or any type of CROSSING PATTERNS for I don't know how long..

If you look at his build it isn't too far off of JERRY RICE's...

This guy is going to be a monster, IF allowed to be...

AGAIN, I called crossing patterns to ASH a couple of SEASONS AGO...

The young man is peaking at the right time. If you look at his career, he tends to start slowly every year. Hopefully next season we'll see him as more of a factor on a weekly basis. That will be the next step of the maturation process.

My exact sentiments.

We need a speed/deep threat guy who can make plays more frequently than once every six weeks.

I saw that gash and flinched. The skin was flapping around on his arm. The fact he took that nasty rake and didn't panic was pretty cool.

Ashley played with heart, took the underneath routes, fought for the ball, and did some things this year I have been watiing to see all year. Lelie survived a lot of criticism to get where he is. Al Wilson wasn't always the tough player that he is. I was very glad to see Lelie step up this game.

I was more impressed to see this team hasn't peaked.

I totally agree that we haven't been using him right...man...was Jake on fire as well yesterday?

I thought he broke the arm, so some stitches will heal....they will keep neosporin on it and wrap it for games...shouldn't be a problem at all... I was positive that arm was broken the way he was freakin' out.

This what piss me off the most, Ashley come out and has day like Sat, and then disappears. I still blame the coaching staff for the pattern run. Every time he runs the slant he open. The other problem that Smith can not run the deep pattern to open up the underneath stuff for other WR. Thus Ashley, Devoe, or Adams is always going deep.

Rod gets into the pro bowl because he can't run a deep pattern? Poor Ashley and Devoe. Maybe if they were a little slower they could get into the pro bowl as well?

IF the roles were reversed then maybe Ashley would be headed back home. Many on this board have been calling Ashley a bust in our system. Maybe the reason is because Rod Smith is here, he (Lelie) is forced to do one thing only go deep. I not trying to bust on Smith, but performance like yesterday make you question were the performance has been all year. Bet you look at the tape, Smith was out on the Ashley short patterns. Merry Christmas.
