Injured rookie jogging, riding bike

ENGLEWOOD — Darrent Williams couldn't walk.
Couldn't sit or sleep for that matter.
The Denver Broncos' cornerback thought his rookie season was over while experiencing the postgame pain of a serious groin injury sustained on Dec. 11 against Baltimore at Invesco Field.
Less than two weeks later, Williams is jogging and riding a stationary bike in addition to working with a specialist in the hope of returning to the lineup for Denver's first playoff game. A bye week, something the Broncos can clinch by winning their final two regular season games, would certainly help the comeback.
"I'm planning on coming back and playing this year," Williams said on Tuesday. "I'm looking at doing whatever I've got to do to come back this year. Hopefully we will get a bye, and I'll get an extra week to rest and come back. If I don't, I don't. We got a good team, they can spare me a few games. They can go in there and win some games without me."
The Broncos won last Saturday night's game without Williams, 28-17 at Buffalo. Domonique Foxworth and Curome Cox picked up most of the slack in the secondary.
The unit will get a more serious test this Saturday when the Oakland Raiders visit Invesco Field. Williams held his own with Jerry Porter in the first meeting and returned a Kerry Collins interception for a touchdown to seal Denver's 31-17 victory.
"It's disappointing, but I don't ever look at it like that," Williams said. "I always think everything happens for a reason. I've been having a lot to think about. I just know whenever I do come back I've got a whole different type of attitude."
Hawaii 24-47
Champ Bailey, despite struggling through shoulder and hamstring injuries since the beginning of training camp, leads the Broncos with eight interceptions and is expected to be named to his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl today.
"I think I've overcome more this season than I have in the past," Bailey said. "And statistically it's definitely one of my best seasons. But at corner, you can't base anything off statistics. It's the way you play out there, people notice that even if you're not getting there."
Veteran safety John Lynch also has a good chance to make his seventh Pro Bowl and second with the Broncos.
"Other than Champ with all the interceptions, there's nothing statistically that jumps out at you on a lot of people," Lynch said of Denver's defense. "As a unit, we play very well. There's a lot of people deserving, I hope it works out well."
Practice update
Williams is the only player not expected to suit up for the Broncos. Cox (shoulder), Courtney Brown (knee), Keith Burns (knee), Ian Gold (foot), Cornell Green (shoulder), Kyle Johnson (concussion) are all listed as probable for Saturday.
For Oakland, starting running back LaMont Jordan — who has rushed for 1,025 yards and nine touchdowns this season — did not practice on Tuesday and is listed as doubtful with a toe injury.
