Anyone think we'll go to the Wesley Duke well, even if we have to force it, just to see what the kid is capable of for the playoffs?

Duke deserves a second chance at that dunk, that's for sure...:dunk:

I'd like to see if he can catch more than a 1 yard fade pattern. Give him a look in the red zone.

That's because we are Broncos fans and we all have a distinct memory of the guy that USED to wear #84. I know I look at Duke as possibly having that kind of potential and it seems natural to see if that is there. It would be a huge weapon for our short to meadium passing Plummer to have that kind of threat again! Wouldn't you agree?

Hey I was on Dukes bandwagon right when preseason started. I am the co-adopted parent of Duke as well. I think the pair of Duke and Putz is a very good TE duo. He should get his chance to show what he can do against the Raiders. His size might come in handy come playoff time.

I'm on the tackle eligible TD to Carlisle. Similar to two years ago at San Diego. The one where Plummer and Buerlein both got injured, and Shanny lied at half-time.

He looked good in the pre-season.

Maybe he's just finally getting up to speed with our offense? Practicing better?
It's just odd that we waited this long to give him a shot. But, I'm glad we did.

Hopefully we can get up a few scores on Jokeland and start giving guys like Duke some practice reps.

In the paper last week it had said Duke now fully understands the Broncos offense, before that he didn't really have a clue since he hadn't played football since high school

He is a smart guy apparently and now knows what he needs to do, so we'll see

I want to see more of terell and duke just to see what they can bring. I dont think there is much of a threat of us losing to the raiders. I think this game rather than the chargers game would be a great showcase for our unproven or even unknown.

The play he scored on was a designed play just for him that Shanny made over a month ago. He played in a good portion of the Bills game, and if the score allows I think he will continue to get playing time.

I agree the guy did look good in pre-season. Now lets get him some real game time experience. Also once we get up on chokeland, I'd like to see more of the other recievers mixed in, besides our go to guy Rod .

No I would not.

I agree that Putz has come through for us and made some spectacular catches and runs after the catch.

I agree Duke can catch a ball thrown right into his hands.

I agre he cant dunk the football.

But beyond that, I disagree.

If cincy loses one of the next two games and SD is a nothing game for us I would like to see Adams, Devoe, Duke, and others get some good playing time. But that is a big freaking if.

I'm sure you don't have to worry about Putz losing any significant playing time to Duke anytime soon. I'm glad they are giving him a few touches to further his development, though. Let's see what he brings.

If he can become a decent blocker him and Putz would improve our pass game a lot.

No way. We already under-use Jeb. We should be throwin' to Cowboy 10+ times a game. And Bell - best average per carry since Barry Sanders in '97 . . . he should be getting 15+ carries EVERY TIME OUT! (Not five like @ KC).

And yes - we could run Duke out there this weekend, the Faders don't scare me. But the Playoffs? Playoffs?! Duke seems too raw to see any serious post-season time, esp. w/ Jeb being under-used.

I just liked the WAY Duke made that catch. He's big, and he still caught it with his hands. OUTSTRETCHED. He looked like he could make that same reception and catch again. ALOT!!!

There were many things to like about that catch, and I expect to see more great things from DUKE in the near future including a true TOMAHAWK DUNK after his next TD...

yeah in the paper shanny said that Duke was blocking well in PRACTICE and he gave hima shot.

So i assum if Duke as another good week of practice Duke will see some more action.

If we're well ahead at a point in the game and the Raiders have no chance of coming back then yes. Other than that no, unless it's a specifically designed play by Shanny where he feels there's a major mismatch that Duke can expose.

I don't want to see him until he has another number. I also had issues with DWill wearing 27, but he's made a name for himself, so I suppose that passes.

I know we can't retire every number, but I thought 7, 27, and 84 would have been somewhat sacred.

More Devoe..

I'd like to see what he could do starting opposite of Rod. No knock on Ashley's play as of late, but I think it would be a better overall fit. Line up Ashley in the slot, and stretch the field. Give Devoe more chances to make plays on quick hitter slants...

I'm with you. But there's only so many #'s to go around, as you alluded to. Eighty-four is kinda strange to see....it was the greatest TE of all-time, y'know. Anyone remember that interview with SI where the writer didn't interject anything...just had one, long, fascinating rant by the Mouth? Just thought of that..*sigh* those were heady, heady days. :strong:

I want to see them feature Lelie against the Raiders to such an extent the Roberto Duran offense ("No Moss") starts to look as hideous as it really is. They have to throw at Moss this game but to take OUR second stringer and mushroom stamp these pogues is justice for that snow game. ;D

Kind of hard to make it on the field when you are on the IR. Last time I checked the NFL doesn't allow that. I agree the job shouldn't be handed to him nor do I think it will be, but come on now the guy is on IR. From the sounds of the people that attended camp he was looking pretty good.

Yea...but he could also double his season output too. WAY to much hype over this guy just because he wears 84 and Gates played B-Ball also.

Did I read that Watts wasn't playing because he doesn't play sp teams? I just don't get why they won't play him regardless of that. I haven't seen jack from Devoe besides that Philly catch. Adams drops just as many catches as Watts did, but because he can far catch a punt he gets to start.

That's the point. He never made it out of training camp before he got hurt, he was a UDFA, and people say that safety isn't a huge need in the draft because he's out there.

My guess is he will not be making catches, but they will use him to further develop his blocking skills and route running since he needs to develop those further, and this is a good time to give him game time.

I gotta agree with this. It also puzzles me that Patrick Hape had six TD's or so last year and everyone was too pleased to see him go, but when Duke catches a perfect pass from Plummer against a mis-matched linebacker, we're all ready to brand him Atonio Gates 2.

I don't want to take away from that fact that Duke has shown enormous progress this season working his way from the practice squad to the active roster after not playing football in college, but I think everyone's high expectations of him are a little premature.

Think he had a catch against the Ravens.

He plays a lot in our five wide sets and is a good ST's player. I think I remember seeing him making several tackles.

If Duke gets open and catches the ball against the Raiders it only helps DC's realize this guy is for real and you do have to cover him. If he can block AND catch then play him.

I was on the Duke bandwagon day one. If it motivates Putz. If keeps Alexander healthy then one of these guys is going to get overlooked and will be the difference maker.

It's too bad the Claw can't get it together. It's too bad Terrell isn't "ready"

I hope they use the Raiders game to showcase some talent. I don't care about running up the score as much as keeping the game out of reach, keeping our guys healthy and getting some guys some field time. Raiders game is always "like" a playoff atmosphere.

Perfect.

Did anyone hear the commentary about Devoe during the Ravens game? I was at the game, so I didn't hear it until i watched the recording a few days ago.

Kubiak was asked if there is anyone else on the team who could run with Lelie. The reply was Todd Devoe.... apparently just about the fastest guy on the team. I was suprised.

That aside, I don't care about speed or 40 times. I care about playmakers... and Devoe is a playmaker.
