View Full Version : Justifiable apprehension for the playoffs?

Since we won in Oakland...
We pummelled a worthless Jets, won a close game against an inconsistant Cowboys, lost to KC, struggled at home to a poor Ravens team and defeated a very poor Buffalo team who we made look good in the 1st half.

It seems the Pats are enjoying a resurgance in form.
Cinci are still looking excellent.
Indy are still have the passing game, and Edge.

Am I right to feel apprehensive about the way things are going?

Mike has faded a bit, Tater isn't exploding like he was...
We can't rely on Rod to carry this team against teams of quality like he did this weekend.

We are in the playoffs, we will be 2nd seed, 3rd at worst.

Am I the only one worried?
Before Oakland was Philly, who we now see suck.
We lost to the Giants before that...

Is anyone else as worried about the way things are panning out?

Depends what Chargers or Steelers team show up. The Pats at Invesco will be a lot different to the team we faced a few weeks back.

Jax we could take.

They will have to probably have to face the Bengals. They are very beatable if you don't turn the ball over.
Chargers are much more worrying than the Bengals.

I think Denver have been coasting a bit lately, as some other users have suggested, Mike may have gone a little vanilla.

But that being said, of course you should be aprehensive, its the AFC playoffs and there are a lot of damn good teams. Take nothing for granted, getting to the AFC championships will be a great achievement in itself.

I have no fear about Denver meeting up with Cincy, but the Pats on the other hand are a different story. People are way too willing to write them off way too early. These guys are the Champions. I dont want to see the Pats walk through the tunnel at Mile High after trouncing which ever team they face on the road. I would much rather see the young and inexperienced Bengals with their sieve for a run defense.

It looked like Shanny and co. toyed with the Bills early by trying to get the passing attack on track. My first thought was that he was using that time to help develop passing game continuity heading into the playoffs. After awhile it looked like Shanny was trying to use Rod (as a quality route runner) to trip up his coverage on that slick field. Say what you want about that game, but it looked to me that when Denver decided they were going to run the ball, they did it without any problems.

We dont really have a boat load of momentum heading into the playoffs right now, but that doesnt really matter. We were written off in '97 after some momentum draining losses.

What matters is securing home field and a 1st round bye without suffering major injuries. Injuries have derailed the Bronco train for the past two seasons. I think that if Denver takes care of those things, that they will be in a prime position to waltz into the AFC Championship game with all of the confidence they need.

Exactly. I just want to see the first playoff game at home for years. You can bring on hell or high water but I've got belief in this team.

I'm so damn tired explaining that you don't look at the damn jumbotron...

you win and it is all academic....

We have the division virtuallly locked up unless we lay the classic egg.

Ideal playoff scenario:

Pats (4) beat the Jags(5),
Bengals(3) beat the Stillers(6)

Broncos (2) beat the Bengals (3)
Pats (4) beat the Colts (1)

Broncos (2) beat the Pats (4)

Of course there is the small matter of clinching that no.2 seed first!

The Bengals are hot, and they fear no one.

I sure as hell don't like the fact our hopes hang on beating them to end the season...

Nah, you stated it pretty well earlier Rausch. Denver matches up very well with the teams you listed except for the Bengals and Colts because of their offensiver prowress. I dont think anyone wants to meet the Pats in the playoffs but they still arent the team they use to be.

I might be the only person in America to think this way, but to me the Pats are the favorite if they win their last couple of games. I want no part of them for as long as possible.

The Bengals would bring in a new coach, a young WR corps, young QB, DELTHA ONEAL!, a poor run defense, a poor pass defense, etc. That team would have to prove more to me. Denver has done well in the AFC West, which is the toughest division in football. They have proven alot this season.

Trying to figure out how it matters how many points we score when we win. The point being that we won in the first place. This is not college. This year denver is winning those games where the offense does not put up 30 points. We have not done that the last few seasons, we got into these close games, and we seize up, and lose games we should have won.

Any AFC playoff team is capable of winning the entire conference, and going on to win the superbowl. Once Denver is in, anything is possible.

Still a great team, but Denver can take them.

In Denver, Im not scared of any team in the league.

Away from Denver there are lots of teams that have a considerable advantage.

It'll be a very competitive field and I think every fan base will feel apprehensive. It seems that if we get the #2 seed we could end up with Cinci in our first game, and I think we can take them. They are inexperienced, and while their O is great, we should be able to control the ball. Their D will have trouble getting stops, and they rely heavily on TO's.

I like our chances at home. If we get the #2 seed, the only time we would have to go on the road is if we have to face Indy.

-Natty is inexperienced, and have huge problems against the run. If the game is in Denver, this team should not be a problem

-NE has yet to do anything to be raising them to the standards of SB champion. They beat a TB team that has beaten nobody (except Carolina, but they have lost some weird games), and a bunch of pansies, and the reaining games is more pansies. I found it funny and predictable how quickly the talking heads would be bending over for them. I would be happy if Denver plays them at home.

Pitts and the Jaggs are a notch below Denver, especially at Denver.

Indy is a huge concern. Even though we match much better with them then prior years (and I really don't think the past 3-4 games is a way to gauge the DL since their performance was by design and not incompetence), playing at Indy is a whole different game. However, I do think they are able to choke (they certainly choked a big one with SD, especially since the latter tried to give the game away), Denver's secondary is much better than prior yrs, the DL creates pressure, and the O is much better and can score on this team (TB should do well in that artificial environment).

So yes, my Koolaid is nice, cold, and fresh, but I think Denver has a fighting chance to get to the big game.

Since we won in Oakland...
We shut out the Jets, won a Thanksgiving road game against the always competitive Cowboys, barely lost a December road game to KC, got the Ravens off our back, and flew out east to defeat a proud Buffalo team in their house on national TV.

It seems the Pats enjoyed beating up on the Bills too, but in the comfort of their own backyard.
Cinci are still looking excellent allowing 28.4 points a game and squeaking by Cleveland at home.
Indy are finally getting roughed up after playing some tough competition.

Am I right to feel comfortable about the way things are going?

We are in the playoffs, we will be 2nd seed, 3rd at worst.

What, me worry?
Before Oakland was Philly equipped with McNabb, TO, and Westbrook, who beat all the other teams in the AFC West.
We lost a close road game on the east coast to the Giants before that...

No sweat, things are panning out perfectly.

There. I fixed it for you. ;)

Any team with Brady at QB, Bellicheck setting the defensive gameplan, and Vinitieri kicking last second field goals has a chance in the playoffs. That being said, I still think Shanahan has something on Bellicheck... he makes BB sweat. Brady is definitely clutch. I would love to see the Colts and Pats face off again.

I'm not really worried about where Denver is as long as they win 1 more game. I think 1-1 gives us a first round bye and the 2nd seed. Cincy is still soft to me. They have a lot of potential on offense but I think if you punch them in the face which only a couple teams have done this year... Pitt in the first game, Jacksonville early in the season, they will falter. They are young and have no playoff experience either. I expect to see them fall out of the playoffs early especially if they have to play in a hostile environment.

I think we match up favorably with the Steelers or the Jaguars. They don't have enough offense against us, and we will have just enough defense.

The teams that match up the best against us...

1. Colts- Peyton has owned us.
2. Pats- Brady at QB
3. Bengals- Lots of offensive weapons
4. Steelers- The defense is tough... the 3-4 has given us problems before.
5. Jaguars- This team is terrible. A favorable schedule has gotten them in the playoffs.

At Invesco Field at Mile High, no team will beat us in the playoffs. I'm not cocky or being a homer, I feel that the playoff atmosphere in our house will bring out a victory for the Broncos.

AMEN BROTHER. as long as we keep the 2nd seed then i dont see any reason we dont head to indy for title game.it doesnt matter who comes into invesco whether its the pats or bungles theyll lose.we win last 2 games and we are in afc championship game basically automatically.
