Did the Dolphins hold a press conference? I saw Shula and Bob Greisie (sp?) saying how tough it was, props to Indy, etc. etc. etc.
Was that the NFL playing the Peyton is the posterboy again, or did that happen for Denver too, I don't recall seeing it.
All I know is I am glad they lost a game finally, adn I hope they loose again in the playoffs!

I also don't recall as much of the media hype as the Colts got. All I remember is when we lost to the Giants they showed members of the 72 Dolphins sipping champagne. They didn't even have champagne yesterday. I don't believe that the media will stop their coronation of Manning as a deity anytime soon.

I still not sure we wouldn't have been better served by an Indy victory yesterday. Would Indy having an undefeated season be any more annoying then what the Dolphin team has done with it? It doesn't seem likely.
Knock out SD so we win the west earlier..... still have something to play for in the final weeks so you don't rest Peyton, etc..... and have a certain amount of overconfidence coming into the playoffs. Sounds good to me! Now we'll have Peyton turning those tears into touchdowns??? I guess you can be thankful for some additional game footage on how to slow them down.

I disagree, the doubts will creep in now. Someone took it to them at their place. Beat on banana head all game long, I thought for a while SD was going to put Manning out of the game. Indy lost two other players to injury in that game. There is now a chink in the armor, a hint of doubt in Indy and a gameplan for anyone to follow. Of course we already beat them that exact way in 2003 regular season but I don't think we can generate the heat SD did ? I see nothing at all bad about Indy losing to SD. Had it not been for Brees setting them up inside the 10 yard line twice it would have been a blowout. Chefs should finish off SD at the same time helping us.

I've been thinking back about this for the last couple of weeks as well. I remember seeing a couple of the 72' Dolphins sipping champagne after Denver lost their bid for an undefeated season.
What got me was a couple of weeks ago, was that someone from the 72' Dolphins was quoted as saying something to the effect of how they would 'Welcome' this years Colts to join them as an 'Undefeated' team.
When Denver was 13-0, it seemed like these 72' Dolphins were rooting for Denver to lose, unlike these Colts that they were 'Welcoming' them to win?
Give me a break, I am sure those champagne glasses were raised yesterday.

There was plenty of hype going on leading up to our loss that year. In fact, I believe that NFL Primetime was going to be shot in Miami the week we played them, if we had gotten past the Giants.
Remember, the Dolphins were the next to last game on our schedule, and that's all the media could talk about. Can Miami protect their own record from the Broncos? Because both the Giants and Chargers (our last game) were jokes that year, and Miami was the only team that had "a chance" at beating us.
And then the players all talked about the relief of losing, and taking all the pressure off. Then we stink it up next week in Miami without TD and everyone started writing us off. It was really funny. Good times.

The Charger win over the "unbeatable Colts" opened up the playoffs to everyone now. The Colts took a beating physically and mentally. Every game they play now on will have the element of doubt in the back of their minds.

Peyton is a girl. He threw a ton of balls too high, or in the dirt, and then complained to the WR that it was the WRs fault.
Incidentally, I think the key to beating the Colts is just what Drew Brees did (minus the idiotic turnovers)....tramp around back and forth before the ball is snapped and reel off a bunch of fake audibles.

yes they did ,,Nick Bonticonti ( sp) on inside the NFL was going on about how Denver couldnt do what the 72 Dolphins did .... That Denver Broncos team got alot of attention during the 96 season , 97,98,99 .......

My memory, Spider, is that it was an ENORMOUS LETDOWN!!! I saw I think Buoniconti on ESPN, and he was drinking champagne. Remember, the week after the Giants beat us, we were scheduled to play IN MIAMI . . . on MONDAY NIGHT!!!
It was an enormously anti-climactic game. The Dolphins won anyway, and as I recall there were about two dozen '73 alums roaming the sidelines, no doubt thinking they could suit up for a series or two . . .
I'll tell you what's REALLY pathetic - all those Dolphins message board usernames, with every possible permutation of 17-0 in them. Sad . . .

We lost that game to the Dolphins almost, ALMOST, on purpose...
We played with like 20 plays, all garbage ones, and they killed us. Mike S. was just setting them up for the eventual humiliation of Marino version 2.0, (the first being the Jags beating them 49-0 in the first half way back when Marino threw almost every pass to the wrong team in teal).

We went 13-0, lost two games on the road. We did not get whipped by anyone at Mile High, that is the difference. If you are the "best" team in football, and lose on your home turf in a playoff type game, it raises serious doubts about how good you actually are.

I don't think the unbeaten season is as improbable as people think. I can think of several teams off the top of my head that went 15-1, the Bears, Niners and Vikings all pulled it off. Sooner or later like all records this one will get matched. The Dolphins played only 14 games instead of 16 so it's a little harder now but somebody will do it sooner or later.

Its more difficult now because the Dolphins played practically the easiest schedule in league history to achieve that record. Most people don't know the Dolphins were underdogs in the Super Bowl against Washington that season.
I remember the Broncos getting full rock star treatment in 1998 and I loved every minute of it. The only place I can say the media really dogged us was in greatest team ever comparisions.

I hear that all the time but I disagree a bit. They had 5 high quality road wins.
On opening day, they opened brand new Arrowhead Stadium, in the rematch of the '71 Divisional playoff classic, and put a hurtin on Kansas City. The score was not indicative of the game. Miami dominated.
They also won at The Met, which was no easy task, as the Vikings were always tough at home then. They also beat the Jets, Giants and Colts on the road, including a shutout in Baltimore. Baltimore had a rough '72 campaign, but were a title contender in '71.
And I give them props for having to win the AFC Championship game on the road. Most don't realize that either but the Dolphins, standing at 15-0 at the time, were still forced to play the AFC title game at Pittsburgh.
WTF??
But to your point, their Division was full of creampuffs that year. Baltimore slipped largely due to the Joe Thomas - Johnny Unitas benching thing. The Jets were very hot over the back half of the season when Namath was healthy. But Buffalo and New England were horrible. It was a relatively easy 8 Divisional games right there.
I have the 1972 MNF game against the Cardinals. Awesome running game!!!

And thats all that matters...there were lots of teams that will be looking at that tape. I don't agree with the guys that say it'll take a Merriman to do that to Paymeaton. I think that Seattle is gonna give them a run for their money and with Jackson back I think thats a win for the Seachickens. And we can pray that Denny Green can pull off a new years miracle and maybe we be #1. But I think that you don't lose at home if you are undefeated and you don't lose like that. A 91 yard drive...talk about huge.

You mean when Marino got BENCHED in his last game. :)
