Lets say we didn't trade our first rounder this year to Washington. (this all comes on the thinking we still ended up with Foxworth..Pay came from the Wash pick we got this year). Looking at a few players that got picked a few spots after we picked would we be a better team this year if we landed one of them?
Mike Patterson-32 TOT 3.5 sacks
Heath Miller- 33 catches 6 tds
Luis Castillo-32 TOT 2.5 sacks
Just wondering? I like the move just wondering if not trading out and picking someone in the first round would have changed much for us this year. Thoughts?

Since neither of those were on Shanny's list it doesnt matter. He said he was looking at Matt Jones, the Nebraska corner that the Fade drafted (name is escaping me), Antrel Rolle (Not sure how he thought Rolle could slide down that far, that's a pipe dream) and another corner who's name is escaping me also. It wasn't a pretty list. Im glad the staff had that decision taken away from them.

I'm glad we made the trade. At worst we'll pick just about where we would have last year, unless the extremely unlikely scenario of the Skins getting to the superbowl comes to pass. Overall this draft seems more talented than last years.

Washington is the NU corner, maybe Jackson or Routt was the other one. So would Matt Jones change anything for us if we moved up for him?

They were very interested in Routt but not that high, he wasnt the other corner on that list from what I can remember. Vince Jackson was also the first choice at 3A for the staff based on Shanny's post draft comments, so he wasnt a candidate at 1 either.

Funny that the Raiders drafted two of the DBs we had our eyes on.
The only guy that I think may have had some impact for us would have to be Miller. I would have to think he would get more use in our system then Pitt's and he is going to be good. I'm glad that we made the trade though, it should work out much better for us in the long run.

Miller looks like he is going to be a good TE in this league but it would have made no sense to pick him given that we just re-signed the Putz before the draft. Now, he only got a little more than a million up front and I think he is due another million and change in the summer to complete his bonus, so its not alot, but you dont give away money for free and then turn around and draft a TE high, especially given that we were leveraging other contracts like crazy that offseason to create some cash so we could at least get the low priced Browns players. Even had we planned to trade the Putz we still would have had to eat that initial payment of 1.2 million or something. You just dont throw away money for free by selecting someone at the same position.

Of Course but if Denver was interested in Miller then they wouldn't have given Putz the contract.

Very true. If we had an interest in Miller, we would have simply declined to match the Jets contract and accepted their 6th round pick when the 10 day matching period ended.

I wasn't overly impressed with many of the prospects who'd have been available at 25.
I do know that they wouldn't have taken Jason Campbell.

Castillo looked pretty good today. We'll know more about how the whole thing went after the draft next year.

Vincent Jackson has as many catches as Duke this year. I'm happy with the way things have worked out with our offseason moves. 2 Firsts, even though neither one is looking to be all that high is still a nice place to be.

we were'nt supposed to be this good this year. The thinking was with 2 first rounders contributing next year we would be awesome. But guess what...we're pretty damn good this year and will be even better next :)

Miller and Castillo are going to be good players, but whoever the Broncs pick with the foreskins's choice in April will be better
