Why did Elam kick the opening kickoff?

I first thought the Todd was hurt but he kicked off later. That is one of our weakness this year - not being able to kick it deep on the kickoff.

Yeah I saw where he came into punt. But I haven't heard on why Elam kicked off to open the game.

that was the worst call of the game. Elam barely got it to the 20 yard line, and he set the Bills up at the 40.
It looked like he tried the one step move he's been using for FGs. Not much punch there.

Speaking of the kicking game, what the hell was wrong with Todd this week (and portions of the last 3 games)? He was a rock for most of the season, but now, not so much.

Maybe they were seeing how far Elam can kick distance wise with the one step for future field goal range ???????

now i'm no expert on the ins and outs of football strategy, but...i'm pretty sure they could do that in practice. :poke:

Why on earth did we go in there trying to fool people .. it was the Bills.. just play em straight up !
I didnt catch the opening kickoff but if that's really true.. then that is horrible game strategy..
And yes, Todd looked awful yesterday but it may have had something to do with traction.. or his lack of steroid use.... one or the other.

Elam kicked off because Shannahan wanted to avoid McGee

So why did Elam kick off? It came down to the Broncos' respect for the Bills' McGee, one of the elite kick returners in the league.
"We were doing a little pooch and he's pretty good in that area," said Denver coach Mike Shanahan. "We were trying to put it over the numbers or to the sideline, but Jason hooked it a little bit to the middle. Once you give that number 24 (McGee) a little room, you're in trouble. So we hooked him (Elam) after he hit it right down the middle on the hash marks.
