We can't allow this....

Notice the obvious posturing with the legs and hands...christ, his jeans are newer and cleaner than mine! And what's with the Eddie Bauer boots? He seems competent enough to prop up his little sign to make it easier to read without having to hold it....I'm sorry, but this guy looks like a poser to me...

Notice how he has intentionally cut the cardboard unevenly...this is so amusing on several levels...a 5 year old retard can basically cut a straight line....

I bet if you started kicking him he would get out of that cripple pose and run off....I might be wrong, or the pic might be staged, but it looks fishy to me.

I don't want to get too carried away. I just want to address the issue of making certain the core of this community is kept in tact while keeping a steady stream of revenue coming in to address server growth.

And, I'll tell you what. My long term vision of this site is to have our own exclusive reporting staff (brought up through our own ranks). I'd even our own photographer on the sidelines during home games (also brought up through our own ranks). Currently, the only way to do that is to sell out to a network site with press access , as the Broncos wont grant online sites press credentials. I've tried to get credentials. They practically laughed in my face. I'll admit, It was a demoralizing blow that sent me reeling and made me consider what the hell I'm doing here. I've since recovered and have come to grips once again with my dream for this place. Screw the front office's silly policies. If they don't want to work with us, we'll just have to work around them in whatever ways we can.

The other obstacle, of course, is the ability to pay writers. But before I get too far down that path, I want get the server square... I've got other ideas brewing to cover the writers. This is a long term vision anyway. First things first, and what's important to me right now is community dynamics.

...and save the "sell shirts" idea folks. I love the idea, but it's naive to come at me with that idea as the solution to all of our problems. Shirts aren't a big money maker, and they have a limited run. I've done the research and I know what I'm getting into there. I like the idea, but it's a small potoatoes idea in my mind, and I'm a big picture guy with only so much time to dedicate to this hobby (I have a career, and have been struggling with some other issues, but that's neither here nor there right now ). We will have shirts and hats at some point in time, but not until we get this other stuff worked out. I'm more concerned about long term solvency issues of the community, and the idea for shirts and hats is like putting a fan out your front door to blow away a weather pattern. I need to find something steady that can be forecasted and counted on without having to ask for donations again and again and again (I hate doing that, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it).

Anyway, I'm rambling now. This is the idea that's on my mind right now. I think it would solve a lot of headaches for a lot of people, myself included. I'd like to get more feedback on this idea.

Vote for TJ shirts would be an excellent seller! ;D

LOL since were obviously off topic. Heres a moment in the life of Hotrod

When I was in the Navy in San Diego I went to the mall to buy some underware (thats really not important but facts are facts) getting out of the cab there was this blind dude in a wheel chair. (remember hotrod had hardly ever been in the city at this point in his life just a small town hick kinda fella) So I said damn that dudes got it ruff and put a 5 spot in his little can and went in to buy my underware. My buddy was like dude you cant give $ to peeps like that I said dude your a cold hearted SOB (yes my buddy went with me to buy underware go ahead and insert gay Navy guys joke here....). We went back and forth and Im starting to think my buddy is satin himself. Anyway on the way out of the mall this dude is standing next to his wheelchair with his dark ass glasses up on top of his head counting his cash. Ha! I just shook my head and walked away with my buddy laughing his arse off all the way back to the ship.

.

I have a few mixed emotions about a seperate pay board on here but I can go with the flow but that picture above definetly brings some perspective on the subject. It's not the $35 bucks. I'd like to think the base of the site was already kicking in atleast $35 a year.

I'd like to think we have a pretty good tailgate to offer members of the omane and with as many members as we have here there is no reason there shouldn't be some funds available to help sustain/grow the "Online Tailgate".

There are mini donations drives on here from time to time but those are few and far between. We seem to have one of those at one home game every year when most of you come for the KC game. Donations are appreciated but I've felt like that guy pictured above when it happens.

I think TJ should sell shirts and hats

what about you?

I think he should sell T-Shirts and Hats... but I'm all over giving him $35 a year just to be a part.

I've said it before many times. The Mane has been a big part of my life for the past 4 or 5 years. Not saying I'm dependent on the Mane, but I've met some pretty good friends. Philly, Rascal, Pez, Khan, SoCal, and several others. There's nothing better than Bronco Brothers and if not for the Mane I'd know about 1000 less! The Mane has watched my children grow, and I've watched several of the other Maners kiddos grow. $35 to help TJ keep this thing growing is a small price to pay. Force my hand a little and I'll gladly give... leave it up to me and I'm too damn stingy. Hell, I give ESPN $5 a month for their magazine and Insider info. I use it maybe once a month. The Mane... probably 3-5 times a day!.. on a slow day anyhow.

OT- Since we're talking about funny stories. I was in Wally-World a couple days ago and we all know how Wally-world is any day of the week... Christmas time is 10x worse! So anyhow, I have my cart in one of the electronics isles and I'm "parked" in the way. This guy comes by and has to kind of nudge my cart out of the way. I didn't think it was rude and would have done the same thing. He was probably as frustrated trying to negotiate through the crowds as I was so I said "I appologize" but I guess I didn't speak the "I" part loud enough and it came out sounding like "Appologize!" The dude looked at me and blurted out "SORRY" and took off. I would have told him "No, I mean I appologize", but I was too busy laughing!

Had to really think about it. I'm new to the board (this year) but as the season has gone on it has become a more regular part of my day. The idea of having a forum or forums that are more focused and only people who are really serious are allowed is a good one.

I've started to read lots of threads where I thought the initial content was intriguing and started to think through my reply. But, typically within 10 posts or so the thread has deterioriated into a pathetic name calling mud slinging thread with limited value. Instead of replying to the intial content I just move to the a new thread and repeat the experience.

So - having a forum where the threads would be more passionate and intelligent discussion and less of the name calling etc. would be great in my opinion. The only drawback is that the value proposition within the non-paying forums could drop considerably unless quality content cointnued to exist there as well. But, I think the odds against that happening are good.

Good post... that would be a concern for me as well. The quality of the Un-paid portion *could* go to shiit and there would certainly be good posters that would wonder off rather than pay the $35. The paid subscribers should be able to "escort" a fellow poster! ;D

Taco John

I'm a big believer in people getting out of a discussion board what they put in. If the contribution a person makes is to notice bickering, I think they'll notice bickering. But there's enough people here that when someone makes a reasoned post, they attract reasoned posts in return.

I appreciate your point. I'm well aware that there is plenty of bickering that goes on here. That's true of any high traffic message board. But there's also plenty of good stuff. Otherwise there wouldn't be people here in the first place.

As far as this forum goes, it will always be the main attraction here, and it will always be free.

the more I think about it, the more I like a "members only" section.....I noticed it today when most of the posters that were here when I joined have vanished...
I think a big reason is new posters annoying them away. Everyone has a right to say what they want but it sucks that certain posters that made the board a lot of fun are not around as much.....

I like to read and i like to see different views and i dont feel i need to post all the time cause most often the way i feel has already been expressed by someone else. Personaly i wouldnt mind paying the dues i have been intending on donating sometime just had a baby not to long ago and funds arnt where they should be. i recently donated 20 bucks to the orangemane b/c I do check it every day even though I dont' post that often. Currently I pay 24.95/year for CNN Pipeline. Honestly I don't think 35 is too bad. Maybe if we implemented this plan then maybe Taco John could give us live feeds. I would love to see the broncos tv conference each week of the season. I don't get that here in Arkansas. Or some live video feeds which would be cool if it could work. I dunno. I like Cnn pipeline b/c the video feeds are availbable for my time schedule which changes week to week. I also have DVR. So I enjoy have access to stuff I can't watch b/c of work or school. I dunno how complicated video feeds would be but 35 dollars a year for those would be great. Also i was wondering if credits would be given out for those who did donate in the last few months if this is carried out? Also I don't think post is a good way to make memberships b/c believe you me you probably dont' want me to mass post just to make it the other 383 post just to get the option of paying for premium stuff. I will brain storm and see if there is another way like maybe references by other members or that sort of thing.

Taco, your work is very much appreciated. It's your world and were all just enjoying the view here. I think that the community might be able to help with your bottom line in a much simpler way. I'll throw this idea out there and see if it sticks...

If you were to post sticky's quarterly on the front page with a run down of operating costs and your available budget, I think that people would be more apt to make donations. You could also post the donations made and the proximity to your quarterly or monthly goals. It might even help to add "wants" or upgrades that would improve the site and to post their costs. Maybe a fortunate member would want to help you to make upgrades to the site. I think that it might be a good idea to let the community know who pays the bills by posting member donations on there also. An Omane community quarterly budget meeting of sorts.

Just some ideas...

What part of Broncos fans ONLY do you not understand?
Just how the hell do you propose the be able to tell a differecne? Hell for all you know I could be a troll. There is no way to keep trolls out. Espically the diehards. Besides I know several lesser team posters on Broncomania and to best honest a couple are real good friends. In the event I was to make a friend on here and that person just happened to be a fan of another team I would want him or her to be able to "chat" with me on any forum or thread. And as a member my post count is not relevant. And I dont think TJ has made that part of the COC yet.
