View Full Version : Whitlock says DWill injury good for Bronco D

Didn't see this posted already, sorry if it has been.
In his Page 2 column on 10 NFL truths, Jason Whitlock of the KC Star had this to say about DWill's groin injury:
"3. The best thing to happen to Denver's defense is the season-ending injury to rookie corner Darrent Williams.
I'm surprised Williams made it this deep into the season. He's been getting lit up like a Christmas tree since October."
Really? I hadn't seen that. No one who sees the Broncos regularly seems to think that. Every DB will get beat, especially a rookie, but lit up like a Christmas tree?
Talk amongst yourselves.

Pretty ridiculous statement from what I've seen. In fact, we've seen very little of Darrent lately when he's been in the game. Isn't a corner doing his job when you're not noticing him when he's out there?

And if you actually watched that game you would know, and even admitted to by the secondary, that they simply didn't talk during the game and had multiple blown assignments. The rookies have been playing very well this year, unfortunately darrent got hurt, but Foxworth will pick up the slack. My only question/concern is the nickel back till darrent gets back.

Hmm, since october? I believe he has 2 int's since october, one which won the game against the raiders. also, was a very effective blitzer against dallas. this reporter must just pick somebody to bash, cause he does not have nothing to back it up on. i would say foxworth has been getting more thrown at and against him then DW. DW has been solid all year long, and he looks like a veteran out there.

Darrent has been a very solid corner in coverage for the Broncos....maybe the most consistent of all our corners...Champ included.
There is a reason why Champ has so many picks this year....a combination of getting thrown at more often because of solid coverage by Darrent and the dline applying more pressure on the QB than last year.

It is not showing in sacks, but the dline itself is generating more of a pass rush in 2005 than it was in 2004.

Probably not. I want to win the division, get the #2 seed, and get to the AFC Championship game. If we hang with Indi and they beat us, so be it. We have something to build on. I still think we need an edge rusher like Penn State's Tamba Hali to help put additional pressure on the QB from the front four.

Pass rush doesnt have to get to manning to be effective. No one this year has made the banana headed one move outside the pocket. Make him move, his arm strength is not as good on the run, maybe throw some ducks up, let our secondary snatch some. It wont just be the defense that has to show up, either. Entire team has to give everything they have for however long it takes to beat the Colts.
watermock
12-16-2005, 03:25 PM
That's a rather confusing statement...It's imperative to get to Manning...the problem is the damn mellonhead is good at calling a hot read or even faking an audible...

The team that played the Chiefs 2 weeks ago stands no chance of keeping up with the Colts. Factor that game in with the 12 point marvel against the Ravens and it looks to be more of the Broncos annual "fade" job.

Nobody asked a Chef fans for their opinion.....but since you can't keep out of it. Your team scored 3 lously points against Buffalo and made Losman look like he was pro bowl material and gave up 450+ yards just last week. Go troll there...they will slap you around like a volleyball on steroids....
Can you imagine a mullethead confronting a hardened NY dude...it would be like a gerbil vs. a rottie that lives out of a dumpster...
go have fun with it....

Season ending injury? If he played for kansas city, then yes, his season would be over...D Will will be back by playoff time...you know, playoffs...KC has been there once in the last 6 years, so i know its been awhile...
:Broncos:
thats what i was thinking too.
theyre SO used to not being in the playoffs or making an early exit they called his injury "season ending", when in reality its SUPPOSED to just be 3-4 weeks which would have him back for the first playoff game (if we get the #2 seed).
on another note, does anyone wonder if the "3-4 weeks" isnt just some posturing from the team?
is he really done for the year and the team just doesnt want the other prospective playoff teams to know it?
has there been CONFIRMATION that there's no tear?
just wondering what you all thought, since ive been thinking about that the last couple days.

It doesn't really matter. Curome Cox will get lit up like a Christmas tree and we'll be gone 4 weeks from now. This is not negativity, it's reality.

Talk amongst yourselves.
Quite the contrary from what I see. If that were true, why would they can Lenny? (NOT LENNY!)
I saw a breakdown on "Playbook" just this week where Mike Mayock spotlighted D-Will as a slot defender - and pointed out how remarkably focused and responsible he plays - never waivering from his assignments at his spot, despite appearent "lures" that often pull other slot-defending CBs away from their responsibilities. Sure, Foxworth moved into a "tie", 50-50 shared time at RCB - but I think that was on his merit - NOT D-Will's shortcomings (plus Dee-Dub returns kicks).
To say the injury is a "best thing," or even a "good thing", you'd have to be satisfied about the readiness of Curome Cox and Karl Paymah to step up in nickel and dime situations - and I don't think even the Broncos coaches are sure about that yet.

Darrent Williams . . . I call him Dee-Dub, he calls me Buff. It's a thing we have. :homer:

Some guy named Ladanian Tomlinson did what you call "festing on weak competition" in the SWC(when it still existed.). He turned out real crappy didn't he? If this is your reason as to why Curome Cox won't get lit up in the coming weeks, it's probably a good thing you don't post much.
