I know this is not related to Football or Mocks Cats but thought it worthy of the season. Pitch in if or when you can, at least it is for a good cause. If the Mods want to move this they can.
USO Care packages:

They have some nice programs for both those in the services & the families that have lost loved ones serving our country.

Hundreds of thousands of deployed members of the U.S. Armed Forces continue to be separated from their families. The USO is providing care packages to show them they have not been forgotten and to provide a 'touch of home'.
Due to heightened security, individuals cannot send letters and packages marked for delivery to “Any Service Member.” However, through the United Service Organizations (USO) program called "Operation USO Care Package," you can sponsor a care package that will be delivered to a deployed service member. These USO Care Packages include requested items such as pre-paid worldwide phone cards, sunscreen, travel size toiletries, and messages from individuals who want to thank them for their service.
Approved and endorsed by the Department of Defense, the USO Care Package is a way to send a message of encouragement thanking the troops for their service and sacrifice. Space is provided for you to write a personal message of support to the service member who will receive the package.
If you have any questions, please let us know - questions@usocarepackage.org

NO...it's appropriate IMO...it's too easy to forget about them....it's important for them to know the vast majority hasn't forgotten them...
Good election turnout BTW...Sunni's came to the ballot box...very good news...now turn over those cowards making bombs if you don't mind...

USO has been doing this for many years, Mock. Its been thier responsibility for as long as I can remember. The military isn't dropping the ball here. But I would also like to ask everyone to help contribute what you can, our men and women over there need to know we're behind them.

I didn't say that really...we are the best equipped in the world, they seem to have alot of requests that army life doesn't seem fit tho...I know baby wipes are gold over there...with all that sand and wind and poor sanitary conditions in the field...
It also has an atta boy/girl in it...
I'm well aware taxpayers are paying for this little adventure, but a little extra isn't going to kill us...if you can't afford it, noone is dragging your feet to the fire...I just think it's a good thing to do...

These contributions also go to programs for families state side that have lost family members. Not just those overseas. It hits me in my gut to think of the families who have lost a loved one.

With all the disasters, attacks, etc... its easy to forget that we are only here thanks to the military. Now they are fighting a war shorthanded in a country that doesnt want them there with the threat of death or mortal wounds around every corner, friendly or not. Can you imagine a worse situation to be in. Yet the majority of us want to get there, finish the damn job, and get the rest of our brothers and sisters out of that BS. Care packages from the USO definitely help the moral of our troops. This is a great link because whatever ones view of the war, we are there and fighting in the most dangerous type of combat there is, and the stuff sent from home makes it that much easier for us over there.

I hope it got thru...the site said your not supposed to send individually because of security reasons...anthrax was mentioned...:twitch:
With Bouncing Betty's going off all around them, I don't see that as a credible threat, but that's policy...
One thing kinda popular I guess is to paint your finger purple to support their free election....
Great idea broncosteven, will do

I was passing through a base where I found a snowman made of sand. It was an amazing little thing to see.
Most of work through the holidays but many people here think of their families and friends at home.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's to Orange Mane. Thanks for thinking of the soldiers and the young men who are growing up so fast over here.

Abbie is beautiful.
I've been here so long that guys are coming back in theater on their second rotation looking for where I might be. It's pretty funny. I plan on being overseas awhile.

She looks like she is ready to give you "instructions" on what she wants to see under the tree. I know how that goes. :)

Cinderella, this & Cinderella that. That is why we sent the donation out to the USO. Some things are more important than a toy or 2.

USO Is not the only Charity out there deserving donations this season. If you have a favorite please list it below.
I am also partial to Ronald Mcdonald House as they were available to our family when Abby was born. I was able to go home when needed but the facilities were there if I needed them.
Please add your fav Charity to this thread. I know not everyone can afford to give at this time of the year but maybe we might sway someone to pitch in & donate time or something other than just money. Just a thought...

The Red Cross of course, USO of course...
Uncle Sam...oh wait...he holds us at gunpoint...never mind...
I wouldn't give the United Way the lint out of my jeans pocket...their mishandling of 9/11 donations was absurd...the only thing more absurd would be going to a Barbara Streisand or Jane Fonda charity dinner....where they get props then promptly count their money on the way out to their limo....

I have a friend(incredibly successfull in the major construction biz) who donated a bunch of money to build a rec center, and donations came in...it's got a wellness center, indoor pool, exersise room, indoor tennis court ext...
He donated alot of free labor as well and equipment to help build it...the guy had developed a reputation as a slave driver and with his mansion, but he made good with that...it's pretty chilly up here in the winter....we have the lakes in the summer, but it's a fine facility...
The point is, any community development program is also good, as long as you make sure it's not a ripoff...so many of them are...so always do at least minimal research on a charity...i.e. How much actually is used after administrative leaching, and where does that money go...no use giving money to a clone of the Oil for Food program.
Oh...did I forget to mention the U.N. ....no I didn't....they didn't fly planes into that now did they...

Finally, the AID epedemic in S Africa is so bad it's absurd...I honestly don't know what to do about that mess....I wouldn't pee in the UN's mouth...the Red Cross is trying, but it's such a mess...there isn't all that much you can do but hand out condoms by the bucketfull...it's very sad, and worse...
Very much end-timesque. I'm a Christian, but no bible thumper, but man...there are some pretty odd things happening.

All of my charities have names and faces to them. There are a lot of people who I help one on one who can probably never repay my kindness. Do you know what? It comes around.
It's not a matter of having money. It's a matter of taking the time to stop and see whose around you. You will be surprised. There are people everywhere that could use a kind word or quick hand up.
