View Full Version : The last time we went to Buffalo...

I dont think we have played a regular season game THERE since 1997.
Do you remember?
it was our SB year , of course, and the day before the game, we got a classic late night October Blizzard that paralized the city!
No planes coming in or going out of DIA and very little viable ground traffic.
The community rose up to help our broncos get to the airport, and the staff at DIA managed to get a runway clear for take-off for one very important plane!
I think that game, and the commitment by our fans in DENVER, was a catalyst for the winning attitude that helped our broncos win it all!
of course, ELWAY and TD helped a little along the way too!
Just wanted to remind everyone about the determination of our SB broncos and the loyalty of our fans!
I am sure it will be darn cold in NY on saturday night, I am also sure that ROD and the coaches will remind our young players of another time when the broncos made their way to Buffalo!

It was an amazing victory, as I recall the Bills were pretty good and winning the game after all the team indured, just to get there was prety amazing!
I had just moved back to DENVER in august of that year, and my girlfriend flew in the night befor, fom PHOENIX, so we could look for an apartment together.
The week-end was shot, we were snowbound for the entire 3 days of her visit.
But we did get to watch the broncos win, THAT made the week-end!
anybody else have some memories to share?

not personal memories, but Elam commented on that game
how guys were tired from digging out their drive way, then they barely made it to Buffalo, and it was an early game
so guys were tired not only from 1) arriving about 1am to play a 1pm east coast time game but 2) shoveling their driveways to make it to the game
someone got a snowmobile and transported Mobley to the bus to go to DIA
a snowplow was in front of the Bronco bus on the way to DIA so they could make it
man Denver loves it's broncos

Didn't the Bills backup have a good game but Den pulled it out anyway?

I remember the snowmobile story. If I remember correct there were local radio requests for people with 4x4's to help not only with the Bronco players but getting elderly peeps to doctor/hospital appointments and what not. Denver is an awesome city.

Van Pelt brought them back, basically b/c the team was so tired, they let them come back
we were up by 20 points going into the 4th and our team was so tired they let them tie it up...lol
Elam said usually there is a lot of talk on flights home after a win, but that day, people were asleep before the plane took off

I believe we were up 20-0, and then the Bill tied it up and forced overtime.
The REAL balsy move was when we actually won the toss, and elected to KICK OFF, choosing instead to take the wind at our back.
It paid off, our defense held on Buffalo's first drive in OT.....and Elam ended up kicking the winner.
GREAT GAME.

Bring the survival gear, you never know in Titonka...why does the NFL hate us with this scheduling? Titonka NY at Night in Late December? WTF?
Think about it...they send us into the heat of Miami week one...then send us to the snow effect freezer in December....shouldn't that be switched around?
You play in Buffalo in September, and Miami in December...
They even have the gall to make it a night game...

adversity, just like back in '97, it only makes us stronger!
Thanks for remindiong me about that coin toss thing!
it was one of those moments when SHANNY showed he he had a pretty sharp head on those shoulders!
taking the wind insytead of the ball was gutsy and brilliant.
ok, maybe not brilliant, but definately snartr than the average bear.

It amazes me how poorly we have played lately in bad weather...from Miami's heat, to losing to a bad Oakland team at home last year...we used to be able to use the weather to our advantage...
For whatever reason I can't figure out, we seem to be a poor weather team...I have advocated blowing up the Dove Valley bubble, and I think they have been practicing outside more...you simply can't win games in a bubble...unless your MellonHead Manning....

No prob, H'rod. I posted a couple pages from the 1997 Gamebook that had rosters and individual game stats, etc. Just a bit of a walk down memory la. The rest of the pges are defensive stats and drive charts.... just thought I wouldn't post all that. Not sure why you are having problems viewing. It was posted as a jpg image and views pretty well on my setup.

The wind was so bad we gave the Bills the ball 1st in OT. Coach took the wind at our backs, it worked.
