View Full Version : Will Champ Bailey be NFL DPOY?

easymobee

I think so. He has the right kind of stats, name rep, and is on a winning team.

He is probably the odds on favorite to become Denver's 1st DPOY since Randy Gradishar in 1978.

Poll forthcoming: It'll take a minute to get it finished.

He should be. Hasn't he had an Interception in every game he was able to play a full game...

Initailly I was going to say no, but after loking at who he is up against, and all the other factors that Easymobee mentioned, I think he's got a fair shot at it, though it would really surprise me.

He has name recognition and is on a Superbowl caliber team.

He has been a game-changer.

I think Urlacher deserves to win it. He's taken his game to an entirely different level this season.

I agree, he is leading that group of monters who IMO have the most wicked defense I've seen in years.

I think it'll come down to Bailey and Urlacher.

Sharper has Ed Reed like numbers, but i don't see him winning it.

Same here, first thought was NO WAY! But the man has played incredible and has the stats to show for it. Deltha does have more picks, but no td's as opposed to Champs 2. And i bet by the end of the year Champ will have MORE ints than him.

And their is no sexy sack leader so he has a great shot. Ill be mad if he doesnt get it.

No love for that fellow at Pitt, Malmumulow or something like that? When I have seen him play he has been a big factor in the seconday.

Don't mean no disrespect, I just cannot spell his name right now.

I think Champ has a very good chance of getting the award...but Brian Urlacher is on a better defensive team and he is having a pretty damn good year...so i think he has just as good of a shot as Champ.

Willynowei

Let's not forget that even though Urlacher is playing well, He's not even the MVp on that BEARs defense. Their MVP is somewhere along their D-line.

Deltha's Ints are skewed by a couple of games where he had multiple Ints. Champ has been more consistent game in game out despite his injury. Also, Deltha has faced poorer QBs.

Not that he deserves it but the NFL will do whatever they can to put the award in Dwight Freeny's hands.

champ definitely should win( though i was surprised how he compares to many in the league) i dont know, he is not as flashy as others, and is not hyped to death. he should win, but he probbaly won't.

Its going to be a tough call for this award. I wanted to start a poll on who we thought would win the comeback player of the year. Strahan at his age coming off his injury could win that and the DPOY. Vilma is having a huge year, Burgess is as well. Oneal, Bailey, and Sharper all are having years that would win the award if the rest of the NFL wasn't playing so well. I guess if I had a vote it would go for Kyle Vanden Bosch....JK

Is Vilma having a huge year, or is he simply on the field a lot, thus getting more opportunities to make tackles? The Jets have allowed 134 yards a game on the ground and 16 rushing TDs, both figures near the bottom of the League rankings. I think the starting MLB should answer for that, especially since he's playing behind three former first round picks on the defensive line.

New York players are always hyped to death, then they perform like LaMont Jordan under the spotlight.

Vilma has 55 more tackles then the next guy on his team. I'm willing to bet thats amoung the highest gab in the NFL right now. Now I was thinking maybe they have been on the field that much more, well the Bears have ran 837 plays on D and the Jets have ran 834 plays. Their TOP is under two minutes a game less as well. Maybe he should be held accountable for how bad the D is playing but if we go by that then Bailey would be out of the running as well. Its not like we are kicking ass in passing D.

I guess Fletcher should get some love as well. 134 tackles, 1 pick, 4 sacks and 3 PD.

And you know what, id bet on that exactly happening. ughhh i hate Tags

Go Champ!

I hope he gets it. He has truly been outstanding this year. Ungodly amount of INTs as well as very timely breakups. He's really been the man this year for us.

You're getting colder, Doc.

Buffalo is practically the worst team in the League against the run.

London Fletcher and Jonathan Vilma do have a lot in common, though. They don't like to shed blocks and they're ineffective when forced to do so. My friend the Bills fan despises Flethcer's ankle-grabbing tackling style.

New York players are always hyped to death, then they perform like LaMont Jordan under the spotlight. So true. Its bad on the east coast with teams with larger markets but with New York teams its awful. It took them ten weeks to even notice Shaun Alexander existed. New York players make a few plays pretty well and suddenly they're the "best in the league. BLAH BLAH BLAH"

Then take Bailey off the list because we are 28th vs the pass.

I really don't see what your point here is slap. Are you trying to tell me that they should have more tackles then they have now? I mean you reduced Fletchers stats to he "ankle tackles". I've seen Fletch lay the wood on people a number of times. He might ankle tackle, hell he still gets the job done. When you have 43 more tackles then the second leading guy on your team I think its safe to say that you are doing atleast a pretty good job of doing his job. Think about this Fletch has 79 tackles in the last 5 games, thats 15.8 ankle tackles a game. Ian Gold our leading tackler has 77 tackles in 13 games!!! Maybe you just think that the award shouldn't go to a team that has a losing record or that stats don't rank in the top half of the NFL. Odds are Both Vilma and Fletch are going to the Pro Bowl and atleast Vilma should get some votes for the DPOY.

I still say urlacher should get it. He's helped his team become the most dominant defense this year. He's on a team full of animals and is wreaking havoc. He should win. Champ should be second. If champ could stay healthy for the whole season then he might have even more impressive stats.

Yards wise. Which I have proved in the past to be meaningless. And yes, I agree with you that Vilma's success should not be dictated by the yards his defense gives up on the ground either.

But look at it this way, He plays before one of the best defensive lines in the AFC. Bailey is enjoying an average pass rush this year, which has done wonders for him. He worked with a poor pass rush in Washington and the worst passrush I've ever seen in Denver last year.

Vilma though, has worked with a pretty good D-line the entire time... Talent-wise anyways.
