Scary thing is that R66v6s was prolly better than 3/4's of the coaches in the League, but shanny is in a whole different ball game, and people still bitch about him.

Four playoff appearances in 7 years since Elway has been gone. That is damn good. Only one losing season in that span as well. Other franchises have seen QB like Aikman, Young, and Marino all leave and the franchise takes a huge dip. Denver has been consistant if not anything, putting a capable winner on the field every year who are challenging for division titles. Shanahan has done all this despite trying out four different QB's during that time. That is impressive.

Not only that we are known for something now... this used to be Elway's team. Now our RB position is of legend, much like the Steelers LB's, the 9ers QB's, ect.

Elway aside, Mike Shanahan has been the best thing to ever happen to Denver and its franchise. Trust me when I say this... 31 NFL franchises envy the consistancy that we have year in and year out. You think SD, KC, and Oakland don't envy our position every year? We don't have 4-12 seasons like Oakland, or rotating coaches like musical chairs in KC. We are consistantly good every year and that chaps the rest of our division members ass's.

Oh, well I don't have rose collared -: glasses on. Shanny's got to find a qb and a system to get deep. But, R66v6s tried to TRADE the duke in his prime, so let's not compare oddities. Shanny got two Lombardies when the Duke was no longer capable of carrying a team, while the Duke asshauled R66v6s' teams. Billichick's squad/majic will age out, just as Jerry Johnson's did. Shula? He had Marino for all those years, and never got back in the bowl.

When Den lost ot Balt, it was a freak play that gave Balt the td, and even then Den could have won the game and gone deep. Indy? They're even better this year, it seems. I thought their oline would have problems. It may not be this year, but even last year, I've seen a steady improvment in terms of having a scheme since shanny started picking up the the Duke/TD and cap pieces.. Injuries were killer last year.

My point is Wade tried to do a lot of things to help John.


He hired Jim Fassell, who he knew already had a relationship with John and his father.

He traded for Zimmerman.

He signed Tim Brown, but lost him back the Raiders and had to settle for Assholey Miller.

He also acquired Mike Pritchard, who was dynamite in his first two games as a Bronco, before lacerating his kidney, landing on the football in practice. He was never the same after that injury.

He asked Bob Ferguson to find John more O line help. Unfortunately Ferguson took this to mean trade away draft picks for Don Maggs.


You have to remember the total garbage he inherited from Reeves. Guys like Jeff Davidson, Russell Freeman, Arthur Marshall, Derek Russell and Gaston Green were starting on offense. Tommy Maddox was the most recent number one pick. No wonder John was more interested in his auto dealerships at that point.

I also learned that from Denver, Charlie "made the transition to the college game with ease" as the defensive coordinator at Oregon. Oh, just another little fun fact to brighten your day, Charlie's Denver defense "paced the NFL in several defensive categories while under his tutelage."
