How many more before he passes Wade Phillips? Those Phillips years were glorious, weren't they?

Seriously, though - that's quite an accomplishment. Reeves won a lot of games here.

You mean the Broncos have only won 64% of their games since Shanahan got here? How has he not been run out of town yet?

Wade brought in Jim Fassel and Gary Zimmerman. Part of a philosophy that suggested it might be a good idea to build around your HOF quarterback, which made John Elway start loving football again. I have no hard feelings for Son of Bum.

Pat wanted Shanny right away, but Reeves would have howled that Shanny backstabbed his way into the job. Which Dan went ahead and did later anyway.

Thank you Shanahan.

Scary thing is that R66v6s was prolly better than 3/4's of the coaches in the League, but shanny is in a whole different ball game, and people still bitch about him.

Four playoff appearances in 7 years since Elway has been gone. That is damn good. Only one losing season in that span as well. Other franchises have seen QB like Aikman, Young, and Marino all leave and the franchise takes a huge dip. Denver has been consistant if not anything, putting a capable winner on the field every year who are challenging for division titles. Shanahan has done all this despite trying out four different QB's during that time. That is impressive.

Not only that we are known for something now... this used to be Elway's team. Now our RB position is of legend, much like the Steelers LB's, the 9ers QB's, ect.

Elway aside, Mike Shanahan has been the best thing to ever happen to Denver and its franchise. Trust me when I say this... 31 NFL franchises envy the consistancy that we have year in and year out. You think SD, KC, and Oakland don't envy our position every year? We don't have 4-12 seasons like Oakland, or rotating coaches like musical chairs in KC. We are consistantly good every year and that chaps the rest of our division members ass's.

Oh, well I don't have rose collared -: glasses on. Shanny's got to find a qb and a system to get deep. But, R66v6s tried to TRADE the duke in his prime, so let's not compare oddities. Shanny got two Lombardies when the Duke was no longer capable of carrying a team, while the Duke asshauled R66v6s' teams. Billichick's squad/majic will age out, just as Jerry Johnson's did. Shula? He had Marino for all those years, and never got back in the bowl.

When Den lost ot Balt, it was a freak play that gave Balt the td, and even then Den could have won the game and gone deep. Indy? They're even better this year, it seems. I thought their oline would have problems. It may not be this year, but even last year, I've seen a steady improvment in terms of having a scheme since shanny started picking up the the Duke/TD and cap pieces.. Injuries were killer last year.

No doubt. That's why the hyenas from opposing teams start getting excited when Shanny's under heat.

Well, he's a hard guy to dislike, but that was part of the problem. He is the best example of a guy that makes a good coordinator, but should never, ever be a head coach.

My lasting memory of him was his expressions on the sideline. He just looked like such a goober. When we did well, he was jumping up and down, slapping people high five. When we did poorly, he looked like he was going to just have a breakdown. He never seemed to be in control in either extreme.

In my opinion, one of the darkest days in Bronco history was when they lost big to the Raiders at home (I think it was '94) while Wade was coach. It was early in the year, and if I remember correctly, they lost by 30 points or so. Phillips just got crucified by the South stands as he headed into the tunnel after the game. It was the ugliest home scene for a Bronco player or coach that I can remember. You knew Wade's days were numbered.

That was a horrible game, but I put a lot of that on spineless Charlie Waters.

I agree that Wade is better suited as a coordinator, but he also went a long way towards revitalizing Elway's desire for the game and he never gets any credit for that.

Yeah, but in fairness, I think that had more to do with just getting away from Reeves, and, to a lesser extent, working with Fassel. I don't think Elway would have ever complained in the first place if it wasn't for his relationship with Reeves.

Whatever happened to Charlie Waters? Is he out of coaching? Didn't he initially go with Reeves to the Giants? I still remember the game where our secondary was just getting torched, and the camera goes to the sideline to Waters, and he's bent over with his hands on his knees, looking like he is hyperventilating. It's the kind of scene that instills a lot of confidence in who is captaining the ship.

I have never been as angry in almost 30 years as a Bronco fan as I was watching gutless Charlie Waters disgrace the organization like he did that afternoon. Take your f___ing beating like a man.

My point is Wade tried to do a lot of things to help John.

He hired Jim Fassell, who he knew already had a relationship with John and his father.

He traded for Zimmerman.

He signed Tim Brown, but lost him back the Raiders and had to settle for Assholey Miller.

He also acquired Mike Pritchard, who was dynamite in his first two games as a Bronco, before lacerating his kidney, landing on the football in practice. He was never the same after that injury.

He asked Bob Ferguson to find John more O line help. Unfortunately Ferguson took this to mean trade away draft picks for Don Maggs.

You have to remember the total garbage he inherited from Reeves. Guys like Jeff Davidson, Russell Freeman, Arthur Marshall, Derek Russell and Gaston Green were starting on offense. Tommy Maddox was the most recent number one pick. No wonder John was more interested in his auto dealerships at that point.

If I see overrated Cliff Harris' bald head and Charlie Waters' stupid grin, I'll Garcia my PC against the wall.

Bill Simpson was a better free safety than Cliff Harris, but he wasn't a Cowboy, so he got screwed in Pro Bowl voting every year.

Cliff actually looks almost normal now that he's an old man. He grew into that ugly bald head of his.

I also learned that from Denver, Charlie "made the transition to the college game with ease" as the defensive coordinator at Oregon. Oh, just another little fun fact to brighten your day, Charlie's Denver defense "paced the NFL in several defensive categories while under his tutelage."

yeah thanks. Bowlen's official site sucks. the frigging DeadBolts have a better list of former players that Bowlen does. He had the site redone a couple of years ago, and it actually became WORSE. Not rocket science. Go copy the Packers' site ... just change the colors and the names. Please change the colors and names. Looks like somethign a dying cow puked up.
