Antonio Gates, Jeremy Shockey, Heath Miller, Alge Crumpler, Randy McMichael, Mike Sellers, Todd Heap, Chris Cooley, LJ Smith and Jason Witten have all been more effective than Tony Gonzalez this year...
So Tony is 11th then right? Again, not so much... Dallas Clark, Ben Watson, Ben Troupe, Courtney Anderson Daniel Graham... They've all been more effective too.
Tony Gonzalez enjoys company with names like Erron Kinney, Jarramy Stevens, Marcus Pollard, and Steve Heiden. He's definitely a top 20 TE still. Potentially top 15 by the time the season is done.

I am sure those players mentioned around him draw as much attention as Tony does to defenses leaving WRs to be able to get open more and attract one on one matchups...

Good Christ. Shut up already.
Kennison has 911 yards and 5 touchdowns...I'm sure Tony has nothing to do with that.
Maybe we can trade for Ben Troupe, he would draw more coverage and Kennison would have 1,200 yards by now.

Granted Tony's redzone production has dropped this year. But you know there's more to a tight end than that.
He's still as reliable on third down as he's ever been.

I really thought Gonzo would give Sharpe a run for his money, but his skills are fading rapidly. He's only in his 9th season, but Sharpe had 10 TDs in his 9th season. Some guys just run out of gas earlier.

What? Gonzalez is still putting up numbers.
Sharpe had a bunch of seasons where he didn't even catch 5 TDs all year.
Gonzalez only needs 7 TDs and 2500 yards to pass Sharpe.

You're right. I bet this far into the season defenses haven't caught on to the fact that Crumpler, Heap, Gates, Shockey, et all are big weapons yet. Up to this point they've let them run free in the secondary completely ignoring them. Maybe those 10 teams will play some good defenses that figure out covering them is a good idea. Good defenses like the Chiefs perhaps! That's the ticket!

Are you brain dead? Crumpler has Vick running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Shockey has friggin' Plaxico Burress.
Gates on the other hand, is a beast. Clearly the best TE in the league.
Heap doesn't even enter into the picture.

Are you kidding? Tony Gonzalez has Eddie Kennison, no?
Heap doesn't even enter into the picture.
He's doubled Tony's touchdown production. So, uh, he enters the picture about ten or eleven place before Gonzalez.

Exaclty! I mean when the opponents they play just look at those player and go down the list and when they get to Crumpler, Gates or Shockey the defensive coaching staffs just go "I surrender! We can't bother even trying to stop them with all these other weapons so let's put all our guys on everyone else, not even try and hope things don't get too ugly." :approve:

Unbelievable 2 months ago I was making the argument for Lelie to be more effective that TEs had step up and you freaking said I was full of it and didn't know football. Now you turn around a make the same argument with Gonzo and Kennison. Pussy ass little girl.

Yea, but on a postive Chiefs not, he's caught up to Dwayne Carswell. Of course Carswell is an offensive tackle and he's out for the year...::)

Well, when KC has more rushing TDs in the last five years than anyone else in the league (by a LARGE margin), it's a little surprise that Gonzo's redzone production doesn't matchup lately to other TE's. His blocking and the respect defenses have for him are still a BIG reason why KC can rack up the yardage better than anyone.
It's funny how fans rip on the lack of talent the KC WR's have and how Gonzo's production has slipped and how LJ can't catch the ball, yet KC is still 7th in the league in passing.
It's kind of like the Gold Glove in baseball. For some reason offensive stats seem to be considered in giving out that reward.
Until KC's defense steps it up, their offense will remain in obscurity and be thought a one-trick pony.

Wrong. Until KC does something besides choke away home games in the playoffs will your offense remain in obscurity and be thought a one trick pony.

Ummmm...
Maybe you haven't watched for the last 5 years, but KC's defense is basically the reason they haven't approached or won in the playoffs.

I would take Gonzo. Even though his numbers aren't that great his run blocking ability is better than the rest of the pass catching TE's.

That used to be the case. But I would add that "Until KC's defense steps it up, and Roaf/Shields don't retire . . . "
I would say Roaf is probably one of the most important cogs in that offense right now. What's the word on him and Shields? Do you think they come back for another go next year?
Gonzo is still the #8 TE in Fantasy Football....but the #1 TE, Gates, has scored more than twice the fantasy points as Gonzo.
Definitly a changing of the guard...

It is quite clear that KC's O begins and ends with the OL (although LJ can do well when it is not great). Without their OL, KCs O stops being top 3 and becomes 10-15. I think that is why KC's O players don't get the respect many KC fans would like. However, as azbroncfan notes, Gates is a great blocker, so as a total package he easily has to be considered in the top 5 this yr despite his numbers.
PS, his numbers this yr are also affected by the injuries to the OL earlier in the yr, because he frequentely had to stay back to provide protection.

No , I don't think Shields returns next year, but Roaf said prior to the seaosn he was thinking 2 more seasons after this one. If they are injury free seasons, great.
Shields leaving will hurt, but not like most think. Welborn will likely slide in and take over at right guard leaving a vacancy at RT. So far Black has shown very little there and Sampson (the penciled in starter at the beginning of the season) hasn't had a chance due to injuries. Who knows?
