View Full Version : Gary Kubiak name thrown into the mix for the CU job

Saw it on the local news this morning. Kubiak's name has always been thrown around for that job dating back to I believe 1999. I seriously doubt he has any interest in it. Anyone else see that report????
How would you feel if Kubiak took the job?

I think it is time for a change at OC. I don't want to see a change at HC & since Shanny is calling plays this year any way I have no prob with Kubes moving on. Fresh, young, blood would be a good thing at the OC level.

Didn't see the report, but have heard it elsewhere. I wouldn't mind him as the CU coach, but I doubt it happens. Bohn seems to have his man identified and wants to move quick I doubt Kubiak would want to leave or even announce he is leaving before the Broncs win the SuperBowl this year :).

the Buffs need a good coach and a good recruiter......Butch Davis would be my vote.
plus he already knows how to run a crooked program.

That would be ok with me he deserves his chance to run his own program IMO but the real question is how is everyone here going to react when he takes the faider job

The CU job would be elite for Pubes honestly...that is a pretty good program depite the beatdown by Texas...
Honestly, i think pubes has matured as a playcaller altho last week was baffling at times...I think Pubes would be a fine coach for CU honestly...
hard to say if we could get mooch tho...
Pubes and Shanny go back a long time...as much as I complain, they are kinda a team, like Batman and Robin, or Laurel and Hardy for that matter...Gleason and Ralph Cramdon...

They need somebody from the old glory days! A disciple of Mac or something, not an 'outsider'
Kubes is a good coordinator, but not head man material.
Mooch is like Snake-heisel, will charm his way into a job but doesnt ever really do/prove anything after that!

I think kubiak should rekindle the texans interest and go there. CU is not a place for him. CU needs someone that can clean the program up. CU has been in the dumps for so many years they need to hire someone like paterno. Someone who demands respect because of who he is. CU has been so dissapointing for so long they need a real overhaul.

Joe Glenn won't coach for CU, he's looking for the Nebraska job when Callahan gets ****canned
Did you ever hear the story about how Joe Glenn - apparently a very funny guy - dissed the Buffs at the Summer 2004 Mountain West pre-season coach's banquet and press gathering?
I hope I can tell it right . . . it was maybe a month or so after Marcus Houston was given the almost unprecedented OK to play immediately (without sitting out a year) after transferring from CU to CSU. And apparently it was the very week NCAA ruled against Jeremy Bloom's wish to have another year of eligigibility.
Glenn starts his speech at the podium, goes on for a couple of minutes, when his cell phone rings. He turns away slightly and answers - in the middle of his speech. "Hello? . . . What? . . . Really? . . . Thanks - bye." He hung up the phone and looked back at the audience and said "I've just learned that the NCAA has cleared Jeremy Bloom to play this year . . . in Fort Collins."
Apparently the place broke up for 10 minutes solid.
I'm hoping Kubes end up somewhere other than Denver. Maybe Martz would be interested in a less stessful OC position after the Rams let him go.

Kub's is going nowhere. The only college job I think he would take over a NFL one would be the Texas A/M job. I don't even think the Houston job would intice him that much because after all they have not advanced beyond the expansion play, the Texans are the Colorado Rockies of the NFL. I have been listening to the local talk radio and it seems like the people of Colorado want Dave Logan as the next coach. I think he is a standup guy and a good coach, but he is not the right fit for CU right now. They need a name more than an X's and O's guy. The state only puts out about 3-4 blue chippers a year and CU has been losing them for many years before Barnett took over. Logan might be able to keep the local talent but as far as a national recruiting goes he doesn't have a chance in the Big 12. Colorado has to go out of the state for players, Texas doesn't Oklahoma needs a little from TX. Mention Dave Logan's name to some kid in Califorina and he wouldn't know him from a janitor at his school. You have to get a name that people around the country know and trust. The only way CU will ever advance past winning the north is with national recruiting, not local heroes.

I hope he gets his opportunites for major jobs...he's earned it....as long as nobody comes knocking on Turner's door, I have no problem.....As a compliment to him, I'd rather see Kube's running a college team than have to face him in an important game in the NFL.

He would make an interesting choice.
Positives
- He will install discipline. Not fake discipline either. He will bench even stars for important games. He will go out of his way to make sure the program is clean.
- He can evaluate high school talent well. You might not get very high analyst ranked classes, but there will be diamonds in the rough quite often.
- He can sell parents on having cleaned up another program and flash his two Super Bowl rings to recruits.
- He can sell recruits on how many of "his" players went on to the league.
- He will work very hard to improve the program.
Negatives
- He will leak out his name for other jobs all the time.
- He is not a good gameday coach.
- Remains to be seen how well he can recruit without a) being in the heart of talent rich South Florida without a major university for hundreds of miles and b) Pete Garcia.
- The personality he projects is kind of phony.
- Kind of dictatorial.

Kubiak would most definatley take the Texan job if it was offered to him. He wanted to be interviewed for it when they came into being. He would also take the A&M or Longhorns if they called. Mack Brown might become the Texan coach so nothing is impossible.\
If Kubiak leaves Shanny should elevate Turner to O Coordinator. He has earned it.

I'm guessing Pete Garcia was his go-to guy for high school kids . . . ?
Leaking his name is a bad thing for stability . . . I'm not sold.
Hasn't Dave Logan won or come close to winning state HS championships @ Arvada West? I know high school is not college - but there's something to be said for a guy who can run a staff and roster and WIN . . on any level. Plus he's a CU All-America.

Dave Logan's Bronco career totals:

Someone like Martz would be just the enema our O needs.
But a Martz run scheme needs a minimum of 2 solid WR's, a speedster in the slot and a QB willing to take a lot of hits, with little or no running game. Rod Smith is a complete professional but will be 36 next year. So to implement Martz's schemes, we gotta get some extremely good WR in free agency. Martz makes for some nice highlight reels, but he loses the battles AND the war.

So were Miles or Kragthorpe even contacted by Bohn?
At the official Tulsa athletic website, Kragthorpe simply says he's flattered he's heard his name has been considered, but he likes where he is.
Miles simply said he had no interest, and on a side note, Pelini said he had no contact with anyone representing CU.
In reality, there's no difference since this means neither will be the coach. It does not, however, mean that Bohn had any interest in them. These are names that have been thrown out as possibilities. It would be a bigger deal if Bohn had contacted them and been turned down, since that means he's moving down the list of choices.

Those coaches might of heard a rumor CU might be interested in contacting them by their local media. They both are happy where they are and not interested in any job. I wouldn't think it would be that hard for Bohn to call any of these guys to see if they are interested at least by today. Your right Herc he might not inquire til next week.

I talked with long time Buffs b'caster & analyst Larry Zimmer Friday who says there is a LOT of Alum sentiment favoring Dave Logan, although (relatively) new AD Mike Bohn isn't showing anyone his hand quite yet.
Frankly, I personally believe Logan would be among the worst possible choices for reasons already mentioned.

He looks like he's up and off the psychiatrist couch, anyway. I'm thinking Davis must be Bohn's "home run." Who else could Bohn have spoken to about the job?! My point was just that Lombardi puts out a bad perception of what is going if he says that those two guys said they aren't interested. The natural tendency I think for most people is to assume that they were answering no to a question they were asked, not pre-emptively answering no just because they heard rumors CU might be interested.

Yep. Don't know what the infatuation is with Logan. No experience of any kind coaching in college. For a guy that a lot of CU fans seem to want, he really didn't send many of his players up the road to Boulder and no one outside of this state knows who Dave Logan is. I'd be bummed if CU hired Logan or Embree honestly. I can't see Logan giving up KOA or Broncos games anyway to coach CU. If they do hire Logan they might as well quit football at CU. One reason regents might want Logan is cheap factor and if thats the route they go CU slips farther into the depths of nowheresville RIP CU.

I dont know if Pete Garcia would come with him this time. He is now Asst. AD at the U, but he has been Butch's right hand man for the ten years before, in Miami and Cleveland. He would be a HUGE asset. Glad to see you are from the area, i actually work on Las Tunas and Temple City Blvd. BTW, I hate Coker because he has plunged us into mediocrity. 9-3 followed by 9-2, without a conference title in either year is garbage, especially when weve lost to scrubs.

Anybody but Gary Barnett is fine with me...including Hugh Heffner or the ghost of Tupac...but Buffalo defensive coordinator Jerry Gray would be my pick. He's a young (42) guy with playing and coaching roots in Texas, their most fertile recruiting ground...he's been successful as a DC in Buffalo and also coached with the Titans and in college at SMU...not to mention that it doesn't hurt in recruiting black athletes when you have a young proven black coach with "NFL" on his resume.
I'm just glad Barnett is history. I can be a CU fan again with him gone.

I would love to get Kubiak as long as he is down with strippers and parties

I talked with long time Buffs b'caster & analyst Larry Zimmer Friday who says there is a LOT of Alum sentiment favoring Dave Logan, although (relatively) new AD Mike Bohn isn't showing anyone his hand quite yet.
Frankly, I personally believe Logan would be among the worst possible choices for reasons already mentioned.
If the school really wants to challenge for regular BCS participation...they do need a 'name' guy who can build & maintain a major program & recruit nationally.
Just my opinion.
Irv and Joe were lobbying on the radio for Dave Logan yesterday. I think they should just disband the CU probram all together.;D jk
I'm a University of AZ wildcat fan but after going to the CU vs CSU game earlier this year I lean more towards CSU now. Just didn't care for the CU atmoshpere. I'm sick of the scandal on the local news also even though there are plenty of other schools and programs doing the same things. CU is definetly under the microscope more the most schools.

Good move for Hawkins, I'd like to get away from that god damn blue turf as well.

That's the last time I get you free tickets:D I assume you mean the game itself and not the tailgating??

They've been pimping Logan since Barnett was fired, not just yesterday. Apparently Joe is pissed today and wants to know who Hawkins beat while he was at BSU. Wonder if anyone will call in and ask who Logan has beaten?
